Your best course of action would be to start with DP94, which is when the show started getting regularly subbed. The plot as a whole hasn't really started getting all that involving yet at that point, and DP120 is a recap episode that should explain all the most important shit you missed.

It's because skipping half of DP makes no sense. It's in the middle of Ash's Gym quest, you'll miss everything with Paul, everything with Dawn and her story, everything with the early Hunter J eps and Galactic build-up, everything about Chimchar's early development and Ash's other Sinnoh pokemon, etc.

I would never recommend anyone skip into the middle of a season, especially one as plot heavy as DP was.

By this logic you can skip halfway into any saga. The plot of every season prior to SM was, "Ash wins badges" but it's HOW he wins them and how he and his pokemon develop up to that point that makes each individual saga different from each other as well all know. Plus what the female lead does and the rivals, etc.

New IP here. Honestly can't understand why you can't just watch the DP dubbed for the first 90 episodes. Who gives a shit? It is miles better than the dub from today's anime such as XY and SM. I agree with previous anon that one episode of backstory isn't enough to cover the plethora of arcs that took place in the first half of DP. So why ruin a series because you don't want to listen to English people?

Jokes aside I really do hope they do an art shift back to XY style at some point during SM once the more villain plot kicks in.

I see it happening when the gang are at Aether paradise for the first time, Nilihigo comes through the Ultra Wormhole and as Ash steps up to battle it we see him turn into XY Ash through quick pans of his updated SM self from shoes, shirt, to his hair and which ends on his eyes followed by a upwards pan starting from his feet up to his face, his entire SM design redone in XYstyle.

I genuinely think it could happen if SM goes darker towards the main plot. I can't see Aether and Lillie and Lusamines arc done in the current art style without it losing some intensity in it.

I mean, could you imagine the response if none of his updated self was shown in the episode previews? Everyone would lose their fucking minds during the episode when it went down.

It's really depressing they stopped the XY style in just one series. XY Ash was fucking badass, he's exactly the Ash I wanted to see when I was a kid watching the anime 20 years ago. Besides that, he was a natural evolution of the Ash from OS, AG and DP grown up.

One thing Serena never had was that temper or spunk you saw from May and Dawn every so often, where they'd get really mad and want to fight, etc. Serena really was the most calm or reserved of all the main girls. I guess the writers wanted Serena to be the most "lady like" because they were making her a love interest.

None of the SM girls are like this either though, so too bad. I wish we got girls who got angry and loved to battle again.
