Even then XY came out only a year after BW2. 2012 was BW2 and 2013 was XY.

So it's very likely Gen 8 is on track for 2018 especially if it's the first new gen on the Switch. I doubt the first mainline pokemon game on Switch will be remakes over a new generation.

It could very well only last two years. We have the last event legendary given at Movie 20, we have the "third version" of SM this fall already. Gen 8 could already be ready for 2018. I doubt the first mainline pokemon game on Switch will be DP remakes, they'd probably save that until after a new gen launches.

Also in the anime I notice most of the new SM pokemon have debuted in episodes already. It's really only about 30ish left not counting all the Ultra Beasts or legendaries.

Interesting to note, that if we get no breaks for SM up until the release of USM it'll be exactly episode 52 of SM on that date.

If by episode 52 Ash has conquered Olivia I'd say things are looking good pacing wise.

2 - 3 Kahunas defeated in the first 2 years and the 3rd year is the wrap up of SM similar to XYZ. The 3rd year would be about the final Kahuna, Aether, Skull, UB's, and Ashs graduation/final tournament should there be one.

I'm actually really happy that we're getting SM continuations rather then DP remakes, I'd rather have full focus on Alola rather then randomly injected Gen 4 shilling.

I am really curious though since we aren't getting Sinnoh, why is Lucario and Piplup in Movie 20? Cross and Inciniroar make sense because of Alola, but those two mons are really strange given what we've learned today.

The pacing is not just a problem for SM in particular...the pacing of the pokemon anime is shit since Johto because of their stupid marketing choices.

On a series like SM with the new formula, it's a even worse thing to do.
We have way more material than others series and still they delete things like Trial Captain, install a school setting, change the adventure into a fucking slapstick and slow down the show.

Anyway, they already fucked up...it's probably way too late without a big plot rush.
In a normal anime pacing Akala should have started at episode 13 and finish at something like 36.

I still wait for the day when the Pokemon Anime will finally stop that bullshit.

So I guess the safest thing for the anime to do now is filler hell with occasional character development episodes and ash meeting all the captains while beating the 4 kahunas. Then when he returns to melemele to ask kukui about what's next they surprise him with the new gyms that have been built in all the islands and surprise him again with his trial captain friends being the gym leaders. Then it gives him an excuse to go through the islands again to showcase the new stuff and he's doing a gym challenge again to ensure us some more battles
