The anime is dying, getting less popular and more shit with every passing moment, but they can't cancel it or remove Ash. So their only choice is to try new shit until something works. This is just one of the attempts. And this is a lot cheaper to make. The art style is more simpler and the shading is a lot simpler. Usually, this means you get more animation, but there's been no real increase from XY. Every episode is full of still shots and reused animation, and they use cheap effects like sweat drops with no movements. So they're just saving money here, because they know they aren't going to make enough.

Whats funny is that studios that fuck up their animation quality at least try to fix it in physical releases. Pokemon is not gonna do that, stuff like this would remain even if the S/M anime ever got a physical release. The fact that they also turned it into a filler fest as a series that already didn't have much to offer just shows that it's long dead. Well at least we get to see some new mons animated.

After DP, they realized that none of the kids watching the show cared about Ash's progression, so they just completely rewrote his personality every season. He was an idiot in BW, an action hero in XY, and a loudmouth in SM. People just forgive XY coming up with a new personality because they liked it.

It can definitely be boring for others, everyone has their preferences and tastes, nothing wrong with that. I personally like it over X/Y because it's fun to watch. The only time when I looked forward to X/Y were the tense episodes and the gym battles. The Mega-Evolution episodes were cool as fuck though!
