As mentioned by serebii, since this episode is the first episode after the 20th anniversary, i guess the shining pokemon is Ho-oh itself. It makes sense since it appeared in the very first episode too where ash and pikachu were trying to bond, and this episode seems to recreate the memories of the first one.

SM20 is literally the 20 anniversary episode. Ash and Pikachu, something something strong bond for the gorillionth time, maybe a few flashbacks, and Ho-Oh flying by. The only surprise would be that the floating Pokemon isn't Ho-Oh.
SM21. Stoutland won't die, and the only interesting thing is to see if Litten finally joins Ash or not. Something similar about SM20, where the interesting thing to see is if Ash and Top Cuck will have a full battle or if Kek will leave at the middle of it.

SM18 sounds like another dreadful filler.

So basically all of SM has had ratings in the 3.0's besides the first few eps which got a 4.4 only because people were curious to see the new art style. Now SM has settled regularly into the 3.0's this early into a saga.

So this proves two things:

1. The SM art style and more lighter Yokai Watch tone did nothing to improve ratings over XY

2. Each saga of pokemon continually does worse than the previous, so at this point there's going to be nothing to change it or give it a turnaround.

It's times like this you wonder why they can't just end Ash's story and send him off. Obviously keeping Ash around is doing nothing.

Episode 21 is the episode that settles everything, this episode could either make or brake the barafags community completely out of the water, or it could do the opposite, and power up the barafags makeing the owlfags forever a joke, this episode will test the time and space and people's mentality.

On one side the barafags could win and ash will catch that litten, and that would break the royal theorist heart a lot, and if barafags have it completely there way, the cat will become ash's main ace, and the backlash will be strong, many and I mean many people will potentially drop the sun and moon anime. Technically start a purge, Because they were expecting a OP decidueye or Lycanroc. And sun and moon will probably be doing worst then BW, to the point were people will actually look back at BW and say, "hay you know what, it wasn't that bad." Actually ash not getting a decidueye is kind of a red flag for the anime, and you know why, just think about it, rowlet is the most popular alola starter, decidueye is the most popular final evolution of the alola starters. And I would have more hope for incineroar if he was actually second most popular. But in reality he's actually not, in fact it's prooven that popplio is more popular then incineroar. If you don't believe me then run a pole between just popplio and incineroar. And the form that was supposed to fuck up rowlet was more popular then litten and primarenas joke for.
