It mostly stopped being a thing as soon as Dawn was introduced. Dawn is popular, so was her ship, but the rate the fanart came out really took a deep dive after Serena came into in. Misty is still not completely dead, but since she hasn't shown up in over 10 years, the ship also took a heavy blow from Serena.
