They've been building up these characters to make their trials more personal. They may actually change the trials to fit Ash since they know him well enough and are friends.

With the current series it's hard to speculate on just about everything because its so vastly different then the games. We know Oliva, Lusamine, and Gladion are due to appear at some point. Likely the same with Guzma since the recurring grunts "Hate Z-Move users" likely because Guzma is much the same.

But aside from that we can't really begin to speculate about how long Ash is going to be on an island, if he'll start travelling with different characters, how long its going to take between Trials.

One thing though I love the current anime for is the fact that Tapu Koko is a recurring character and has a much larger role then in the games. It was promoted fairly heavily prior to the games launch but it's use in game was very minor.

I hope Gladion gets similar treatment with Type:Null, I'd love to see the chuunilord be looked at in depth like or more so then Alan was.
