Its a trick room team, but I realized kartana destroys all my team. I hope i dont come across a kartana soon. Oddly enough, i haven't encountered any UB. And only kokos and leles but they die easily to my team.

I am doing remarkably well given that my team is a meme.

Literally every mon on it besides Tapu Bulu is Rock, Ground, or Steel, and it relies on constantly having grassy terrain up at the same time as Sandstorm.

I wanted to go full-on meme with only steel/rock/ground, but I decided that I wanted to win at least 1 or 2, and for that, Bulu would be needed.

And not only have I won 1 or 2, I've won 7 out of the 15 today! While that's certainly not competitive, it's far better than I hoped for with Meme Team United: Sandstorm Edition.

I thought I got destroyed there, too. When I saw Koko was his last pokemon, I let out a huge sigh of relief. Jibril saved my butt so many times so far in this competition. My first shiny in Sun, and she's been absolutely monstrous.

Oranguru/Torkoal lead. As long as oranguru lives and gets TR set up Torkoal goes ham with 2 eruptions a turn and either murders or heavily dents the enemy team. If he dies I have to get creative.

Alola Raichu, Fini, Celesteela, and Lilligant in the back for cleanup once they go down.

It's been working out really well....even the fucking arcanine/garchomp leads I'm seeing EVERYWHERE cant survive eruption spam long enough to break torkoal.

The only teams that really get my goat are the guys running 2-3 tapus (I have yet to see a bulu) or the ones carrying the same fucking fissure spamming gastrodon I keep seeing.

Actually scarf chomp is pretty common in Best of 1 format in VGC right now. That and Lele pretty much forced everyone to run scarf so scarf Kartanas or Kokos aren't that rare. Even fucking Pheromosa from time to time is carrying one.

The thing is, since this is lower ladder I thought there would be more gimmicky shit and such so didn't think they would be as common. Lesson learned then. I'm joining the scarf squad with something else.

My Tapu Koko lost every speed tie with the opponent's, my Marowak got frozen forever, and their Koko survived a Rock Slide. Never saw his last poke, Kartana. I chose Rock Slide because they had a Salamence in the preview and figured if it came out while I was scarfed into EQ I was fucked. But it turns out that if I had chosen EQ, victory would have definitely been possible because Scarfchomp could have killed all 3 low-health mons no problem, then solo'd Kartana possibly. Got fucked pretty hard there, very demoralizing.

I'll do a two-parter, I made a collage of my win/loss and what was played against me.

I went 6 wins, 9 losses with this team on Friday night, mostly against Japanese players. Pretty much everything I went up against was serious, no "3 games and quit" freebies except for one team where they didn't use any tapu or UBs.

As you can see, a lot of tapus, fought all four but Lele and Koko were the most represented. The only UB I saw was Celesteela, though Nihlego was on deck for some.

Alola Ninetales, Garchomp, Mimikyu were the stand-out normies getting huge value and over-used, a lot of people brought Muk but never used him.

My best match was unraveling this gimmick team #3 where her pokemon setup a Belly Drum-Z attack-boosted Snorlax. I badly poisoned it with Toxic as it came out, and after it was fully boosted and half life, I switched in Ditto, copied the goodies without any of the penalties or work, and got first hit to kill the Snorlax with its own High Horsepower.

The worst asswhooping I got was from a Tapu Bulu and Sableye, I lost the coin flip for terrain on setup, and Sableye Fake Out hit my Koko, with Bulu killing it. Then Sableye Quashed attacked that were super-effective and I got Woodhammer'd into losing my whole team. It was the craziest support I;ve ever seen from a Sableye, I'll be thinking it over for awhile. It had a third support move but I'm barely awake and can't remember what happened at this point

Ran into a Specs Koko just now. Didn't expect it, ate shit. I was so confident that I'd been gonna do well that round, too.

I'm sitting at above 1700 now. I was 1722, but lost on the last game I decided to play since I was being lazy and didn't switch out my scarf chomp on a mimikyu+magnezone lead. I just kinda stopped focusing before the game even started since I was tired from playing. I believe I'm 21 and 4 right now. I lost twice today, twice yesterday. Oddly enough two of my losses have been due to people freezing my luck with porygon variants. desu, I can't get used to the fast pacing of showdown. It makes me miss a lot of side info like weather damage and other things, especially at the end of the turn. Sure, it's useful to be able to read the log, but even that is an unorganized mess with different font sizes and no clear prefixes, which makes it hard to find stuff, especially with the short time before your opponent gets bored.
I even like the Z-move animations due to my reaction always being something along the lines of "oh shit, it's going down", which excites me, when on showdown I barely notice it was even a z-move except for the OHKO sometimes.

The team match up factor in this game is just ridiculous

Reading these comments about Scarfed Garchomps and I'm like, "Who the hell runs scarfchomps in the doubles format?" Being able to switch moves is crucial. My own Garchomp is a Z variant and it's done quite well. Want to try out Assvest as well.

I've got Hariyama/Porygon 2/Garchomp/Tapu Bulu/Marowak/Muk

Currently 15-4, which is amazing how I go full retard and keep using Tbolt with my Marowak out and Shadow Sneaking on Lele. This is the first time I'm doing VGC this gen. Compared to last gen, this gen is the first one where I've won more matches than lost and I keep getting anxiety over losing a match at this point

Was 12-3, now I'm 17-10, took on a huge losing streak. Blah. Three more matches today before work, hopefully.

11-4 yesterday, 8-7 today. Much harder match-ups, my team just folds against trick room.

I'm surprised by how fun this has been. Originally participated just for the megastones, but this is most fun I've had since DPP singles.

As an Aurora Veil user myself, I often face threats that don't let me set up my veil, including rock, fire, steel and poison types, which will often aim specifically for my Ninetales. Besides that, it's very frail, and definitely not the fastest pokemon, as well as it specifically requiring hail to be able to set up.
This means that pretty much any pokemon that can outspeed ninetales and has type effectiveness (or just any strong physical attack) such as arcanine, or anything that overrides the weather such as a drought torkoal can pretty easily deny me my Aurora Veil.
To be honest, I believe it's often more difficult to set up than it's worth, which is why I only really bother if I'm against something that will let me set it up without too many difficulties.

It was a good way to finish off. At least I learned something. I lost track of wins and losses in the last 15 matches, so I won't know my final tally until the PGL updates. I was 1615 going into the final battle, which I lost, so I'm probably 1590 or so.
Every time I came up against a Torkoal/Lilligant combo, I lost. I underestimated Lilli, both in terms of damage and speed under the sun. Probably because I annihilated the Oricorio/Lilligant combo I first came up against.

I had two ghosts on mine, Alolawak and Decidueye. Both put in good work, though if there was anyone on my team I'd have swapped out, it would have been Decidueye. I'm 25-5 (haven't started my third day), but I'm still in the 1660s. Getting paired with ELO hell players sucks, because if you lose against them, you lose a shit ton of points, but if you win, you barely get 3-5 points. Had I been paired with people of my ranking, I'd easily be almost in the 1800s. Oh well, I guess it's because the hour I choose to fight in (2-5 PM PST) is not ideal.

I'm running a hyper offense team of Specs Koko, Life Orb Lele, Scarf Kartana, regular Garchomp, AV Arcanine and Mandibuzz with Tailwind and Psychic Seed. It's weak to Trick Room, but I can deal with it most of the time since I have Taunt on Lele, and I can overwhelm some TR setters with sheer offense. I also like to kill the mons around the TR setter so that they don't have much offensive pressure. It's been a fun team, but it requires quite a lot of prediction, like most fast offensive teams.

Finished 28-17 I guess I'm improving from the first two competitions went 24-21 in the first one 25-20 the second one I just gotta find a way to deal with trick room teams better and get rid of of one of my ground weaknesses

I suck at picking a good set for each battle.
My team has two strategies: One revolving around Aurora Veil and the other around Rain. With this, I can make 3 different main combinations, and I sometimes opt for something a little more niche if I need it. Not all my mons can make good use of the setups all the time, such as Hail, which goes majorly unused except maybe a Blizzard or two.
The thing is, I hold a grudge for certain pokemon, which is why if I see, for example lele, I'll automatically go for my Celesteela and A-Persian, even if the rest of the matchup sucks, or when I see garchomp, I opt for Ninetales even if I can pretty much guarantee a Rock Slide. Besides that, I have a tendency to always pick Persian last even though it's Nasty Plot would be a great setup at the beginning of the match.
I need a way to optimize, to keep in mind all the mons in the other team and be able to properly counter them without taking more than 1 and a half minute to think about it. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?
My set sucks, I'm aware, but I don't believe it's much of my set being horrible than me just sucking as a player. It certainly would not deserve 1450 were it not for my scarf pelipper. I need to git gud.

Didn't do too bad, probably ended up in the low 1600s. Granted, it did give me some good feedback for my team; like I actually want Mirror Coat Milotic to fuck special attackers without relying on competitive boosts. Assvest chomp fits the team pretty well; and I think I'm gonna give Grassy Seed Nihilego a shot before I knock it too hard.

Finished at over 1700 with a ratio of 31-14. I played badly at times and sometimes my wins were only due to luck but I really like the team I made for this. Tailwind is great in Bo1 and my choice spec vanilluxe did most of the job.

Happened to me a bunch of times. Lead with A-Wak and Gyarados, opponent has Koko and it just proceeds to try and T-bolt the Gyarados. Free Dragon Dances sure are generous.

Despite originally joining this out of sheer spite thinking I'd get my stones and run, it was actually interesting trying to throw together a doubles team for the first time.

At the very least this has shown me that this year's VGC is going to be nothing but Intimidate spam, garchomp, and tapus.

Hopefully the next competition will be something less generic

...and the competition is over!
I didn't manage to do all the battles, only did about 30, but I did finally manage to get over 1500 after falling from there after my 5th battle.
At least I did better than last competition where I ended up in 1446, doubles is way more interesting.
