The idea is to not be taking damage at all, get Archeops up with Maxie, Espeon to devolve everything if needed then click flash ray until they concede. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of some meta shit in expanded that would completely foil this deck idea.

Lugia EX has the option to kill stadiums. But it's a total placeholder card, it should be a Jirachi-EX so I can pull Maxie more consistently but I'm not going to trade for one just for it to become obsolete as a card as we get X-Ball Jirachi with 170hp in May.

Virgen. Celebi prime and Junk Arm completely break the deck, allowing you to power up a Genesect in a single turn. G Booster is also totally bonkers in a format with Junk Arm.

The deck's only real problem is against Victini (which can be circumvented by Ditto) and Weavile (because of prize trade). Reshiram decks also kinda shit on it but they are almost never seen.

Don't sweat it. In the last 24 hours just gent the last few points on the legacy ladder. That's what it's for imo, people with decent standard decks should have no problem getting the wins in the duration but theme plays so much slower and is much less consistent, so it takes longer for theme players to hit the same rewards.

Was killing time at toys r us and say all pokemon cards were BOGO 50% so I decided to buy some since my friends all recently started playing. Got two theme decks (the decidueye and primarina ones) but I have no idea how to play them. The decidueye one specifically looks like it was made to simply get him out on the field as fast as possible... Am I getting that right? Also I assume when a card needs a colorless energy I can use whatever color energy instead right?

It really isn't that unlikely to get eight packs and no GX, although depending on how they fulfill their orders, you would think they would just take eight out of a box in the order they're lined up, which should give a GX with the way they're mapped.

Do you know how to play already and just need help with the strategy of that deck?
Best way to go is probably to give it some trial runs on the TCG Online using the code you got with the box. I don't have the Decidueye or Primarina decks, but the Incineroar deck seems to basically be about getting a turn 1 Passimian for some quick snipe KOs, and getting an Incineroar up to sweep. Most theme decks just have two or three evolution lines that are good, and then a load of filler.

SM have had a pretty minimal impact from a new deck standard, decidueye gets trashed too hard by garbodor to be anything more than a ladder meme and lurantis tends to just lose to decks like Yveltal, Darkrai and especially Mega Mewtwo if she can't get the turn 1 lock.

Umbreon is a good card but is kind of hard to fit in decks, it doesn't do enough damage on its own to really be that threatening to the top tier meta decks and doesn't slot that well into other decks. It'll probably be worth running in Darkrai/Yveltal decks once Altar of the Moone drops though.

Espeon is a coinflip piece of shit and everyone who uses it is frankly terrible. Literally Spinda-GX. It's a niche card that can be used with shit like megazam but isn't really that good in the grand scheme of things. Absolutely infuriating to play against though because it's an early game confusion abuser that you can't OHKO in the early game.

Solgaleo and Lunala are both good cards in theory but both are stage 2s that get utterly fucked by Garb. Solgaleo also has big problems trading with 1 prize attacker decks because he has to recycle so much energy without Bronzong PHF to help him, and in expanded, Archeops really shits on that combo.

Lapras is a decent card but accelerates quite slowly, someone took a top 32 spot with the classic water box deck built around it but the win condition takes too long to get set up to compete with top tier decks consistently.

Incineroar is a shittier sky field user than Rayquaza who takes longer to come online, and by the time he's the best sky field abuser in the meta, sky field itself will have been rotated out. Primarina is a very slow, very shitty Gardevoir-PRC/Darkrai analogue for water type.

The big SM card is Tauros-GX, super splashable and gives literally any big basics deck an OHKO option in conjunction with ninja boy. Most Yveltal lists in particular run 1-2.

Once with each of your starter decks then once with another theme deck from the shop of your choosing.

Of course there are tips not mentioned in the OP because 99% of people who want advice don't even read it.

tl;dr of progression

1. Do trainer challenge for your literally free 450 cards
2. Type the furiousfists/flashfire/phantomforces codes in at the shop to get a bunch of cards, most of them are useless but some of the trainers you get will save you some trades in the long run
3. Clean out your bonus wheel for verses every day if possible, you get lots of tokens and tickets for doing it
4. Spend 500 tokens on one theme deck. Do not buy another themedeck unless one has a particular card in it that you want (tokens convert poorly into tradeable value so spending them to avoid having to trade is a good deal). After that, spend your tokens on token tournaments if you need more tickets, or on roaring skies packs if you don't feel like playing events.
5. Play ticketed tournaments, try to cobble together a standard deck from your free cards. Read up a little on what's good and try your best knowing you'll probably seldom pass 3rd/4th. Win packs and chests, accumulate these to build trade value. If you're so inclined, look for a profitable trading scheme to invest your packs in.
6. Make a decklist you like then slowly trade for the cards you need for it. Should probably ask here before getting too deep into trades.

Once you have one deck completed, new decks take a fraction of the effort/value since you can reuse common staple cards. It took me about a month to compile one usable standard deck, I'm on my 3rd month of this game now and have 10 standard decks and 2 expanded decks as well as a full playset of shaymins. I spent a total of $60 on codes to accelerate my progression but don't think you need to pay for cards in this game. Two of my shaymins are actually random draws and I only use two of them in all but two of my decks.

How do you use CheatEngine's speed hack with PTCGO? I tried going through the tutorial but parts of it are hard for me to understand.

Volcanion-EX (less valuable since you're running octillery rather than shaymeme)

Add fairy for the Xeneas you hit the 220 mark which is OHKO on almost everything. Pull in some Oranguru and you can hit 250 which is an OHKO on literally everything.

whats the verdict on Tsareena? Just spent five minutes watching my opponent deck himself out on turn 1. Anyone found a legit use for her yet, even as just a memedeck?

I figure it would be better as a controlled support card in another deck rather than an entire archetype. Could work well with Serperior since they both utilise FoGP, De-Evo Spray, Reviliser & Level Balls so much. Use her ability to ensure the opponent can't switch/draw out of the paralysis. But then you have two three stage lines which is pretty clunky.

You spend all these resources trying to deplete your opponent's hand but don't put on any pressure outside of that. You can toss their hand out, but they'll topdeck eventually and then you're back to square one with no resources because you wasted it all trying to meme their opening hand away.

If Tsareena's attack cost one or even two Energy at the cost of, say, 20 or 30 damage, it would be leagues better. Vanilla Lurantis could turn it into an actual threat. Might not be a contender for BDIF but it would at least be usable.

As it stands now, it's nothing more than a bad meme.

Another stage 2 line seems like it wouldn't work. The best I could come up with is Umbreon-GX or something else that discards energy. Force them to top deck draw support while making sure they can't fix their field in one turn.

But, think of how good it will feel to make your opponent rage quit when they top deck crap 4 turns in a row.

get an elite trainer box when you're new typically, some of the half decks have sets of useful cards. The Guardians box will be pretty tight prolly.

use ptcgo for prototyping decks and practicing, cards are a fraction of the real life value there if you convert code cards to tradable packs, which you get with every real pack you purchase.

build decks by buying singles, you'll never build a deck from booster pulls and the theme decks are mostly useless for that purpose since they are full of shit cards.

I'm convinced this is confirmation bias. When your deck works and you hit your consistency cards, you're perfectly content and think nothing of it. When you brick, on the other hand, it sticks firmly in your mind (especially if you get several such games in a row).

When you build a consistent deck, it's easy to become entitled and simply expect it to work every single time. Unfortunately, every deck has to run early-game dead-draw cards (energy, VS Seeker, tools) and, with truly random shuffling, sometimes you will get a hand full of these.

YGO has a card where you put the top 10 cards in the game's equivalent of the Lost Zone to draw 2. Obviously the draw would be increased because YGO doesn't even like handing out 1:1 draws, but I think a similar card could work in PTCG.

I've recorded a year or so ago when I played Vespi/Theta Stop in Unlimited both that Unown drew another Unown in nearly 3/4 of the games and sometimes twice. In addition the single copy of Super Rod was in the first 7 cards more than half of the time as well.

I also recorded in Expanded using a generic Yveltal deck my Laser ratio and I discovered that I would successfully get someone to stay asleep about one in ten times over the course of a ladder because I realized whenever I used it I never seemed to buy myself a free turn, far less than the 25% chance.

Then there's the issue of N redrawing the same hand. I try avoid using N whenever I can because from my experience I only disrupt myself and give my opponent everything they need, even if it's an N to 1 or 2. I find Delinquent far more reliable disruption because at least in that case I don't grant myself autoloss by drawing the same 6 cards just minus N while my opponent gets a free turn. Same with Ace Trainer, I always seem to give them two usable cards and a supporter if I use it, same when used against me. It's why in Legacy I run 3 or so Oaks and only 1 or 2 Ns and try to use N as soon as possible when playing fast decks so I don't end up having to use N myself to draw 2 cards as my supporter.

Oh and final rounds of tournaments have a tendency to fuck one of the players over with awful prizes and hands, for seemingly no reason. The semifinals are almost always more intense games because of this. I've won too many and lost too many turn one laserbanks because I or my opponent started a 60 or less HP basic and bricked.

Oh and the opening coin toss is streaky in both who flips and what the result is, usually favoring the person who didn't flip. These are not normal odds and I have not noticed any change in balance over the years, it's consistently out of whack. Everyone at my league knows the online game feels way worse than the IRL game, we joke about it all the time.

I faced Wailord stall for the first time the other day. I should have crushed it, but I was really unlucky with my draws (I think I went 11 turns before getting a Shaymin/Sycamore/N/Hoopa/Ultra Ball).

It was pretty painful to sit through, but I didn't want to give them the satisfaction of conceding. I probably should have though, as I ended up just about losing and having wasted a load of time out of stubbornness.

but seriously, no, yveltal/garb has no real counterplay. You basically just have to trade and not use an ability dependent deck.

Even shit people 'tech' against that deck like, for example, Jolteon AOR get shut down by garb. Even decks like Raikou which should theoretically check Yveltal get destroyed by Garbo and Evil Ball's energy scaling mechanic.

Isn't Pot of Greed legal? Last time I looked at the ban list YGO didn't even mind 1:2 draws as long as it didn't let you manipulate your deck, extra deck, or graveyard very badly.
