Some shithead on the Gamefreak team actually thought it a good idea to make a Pokemon with a offense stat and coverage so high it puts even the best cover box legendaries to shame and give it far higher speed than almost any of them have and class it as a regular legal Pokemon. Oh and lets it give it a ability that just boosts it's offense on top of that.

Then throw it into a meta with possibly the highest concentration of slow shitmons we have ever seen in a single Gen.

So using Arcanine becomes less of a case of 'oh it happens to check Kartana, how useful' and more of a 'run Arcanine if you don't want to get swept every game by Kartana'.

But yeah, it's pretty ridiculously good in VGC.

You're still slow as fuck and will outspeed most things on TR. The advantage is that you won't have to breed for 0 speed, which can be a pain in the ass. You can use Brave if you want too, but Adamant is a more common nature on Dittos and breedjects, so again, it's easier to get.

Yes. Means you pretty much shut down every physical attacker in the game.

Should you?

Probably not unless you want to get completely swept by Milotic. You'll be probably forced to not bring either of your Intimidators and that'll just leave you with a gaping weakness. A +2 Milotic really isn't something to take lightly even if you have a counter for it.

I'd still probably do it though the payoff is good enough, Milotic isn't near common enough to be worried about. Doesn't even break top 30 of usage because Fini and Gastrodon are the go to bulky waters.

The thing that wins me the most battles is Z move gigavolt havoc on Adamant Arcanine. People bring out a Fini, or gyarados, araquanid etc against it, and bam 1 shot.

I would say 8 of my losses come from A- Marowak and Ninetales alone.

I've done some damage calcs and it's not as bad as I thought, but it would still be difficult to justify it over other rock-types.

I didn't even realize it was legal in this format to be honest and now I look at it, it has some things going for it.

First is it is one of the few Swift Swim abusers in this whole meta and it can beat base 130 (Koko) under rain whilst keeping Adamant for more damage.

It has a STAB Waterfall which works with it's increased speed and the rain boost and EQ for coverage. STAB Head Smash hits like a truck and it probably could run a Z gem for either Waterfall or Head Smash too for more damage potential.

It's not, but what you could do with all your team passing with that type is. Maybe not a huge advantage, but let's say you heard X player use a lot X Pokémon and you can only counter it with the "other" move you typed in, you can have an advantage and be more versatile.

Sure that player could (if he didn't already) tell to the organizer to fix it and maybe just get a warning or whatever and keep his Pokémon with the good move, but if they already started the first round there isn't too much to do there other than get a game loss and then fix it on the next round. There are some rules that need to be followed, but yeah, the organizer/judge is the one who applies them, just like a real judge applies his vision of the law.

Pokémon's VGC/TCG scene needs to be refreshed anytime soon since there are a lot more players than before (thought they already made that before, but I mean a good refresh).

for competitive you'll really want to breed or inject one with perfect stats and a more optimal nature. Careful decreases its special attack, and since magnezone is exclusively a special attacker it's pretty bad on it.
The standard set on Magnezones nowadays is Thunderbolt, Flash Cannon, Protect and either Substitute or a Hidden Power of your choice, most common ones are Ice and Fire I think.
As for tips on it, for VGC at least, have things on your team that beat fire and ground.
