Having two defensive Intimidates with Snarl is a bit redundant, I would probably replace Krook, maybe an offensive Garchomp or something
>>
>>31266583
good point. typical garchomp?

Garchomp
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Poison Jab
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Protect

If you've watched enough games to notice it, you've probably watched enough games to see why it's useful.
One reason would be to see what your opponent is likely to do so you can play with more information the next turn
Another is to avoid an opponent's fake out or waste a turn of their tailwind/trick room
Another is to protect one of your Pokémon while the other sets up speed control (for instance, the classic Oranguru/Torkoal lead; turn one, Oranguru uses Trick Room while Torkoal protects, next turn you have an unharmed Torkoal in Trick Room, which you wouldn't be able to have otherwise
Another is to give your other Pokémon a chance to KO a threat (for instance, if you have Gyarados and Garchomp against an opponent's Tapu Koko, you can protect Gyarados, Tapu Koko goes for the Thunderbolt on Gyarados, which fails, then Garchomp gets the KO on Tapu Koko with Earthquake. Without Protect, Gyarados would have fainted.
For that matter, it protects your Pokémon from your own spread moves. You can have Marowak protect while your Garchomp uses Earthquake and gets rid of a pesky Muk that you would otherwise struggle to get rid of, and Earthquake won't knock out your own Marowak.

It's just so endlessly versatile that it's almost better to think of VGC Pokémon as having three moves and Protect, unless you specifically have a reason to remove it.
>>
>>31266492

How do I into VGC? I only know Singles and want to try VGC for fun. Any good YouTubers to teach me that aren't annoying as fuck?
>>
>>31266696
Depends what you find annoying. Cybertron and Wolfe are very straight-talking and decent players. Most Pokémon YouTubers have some sort of VGC content but they tend not to be that great.
Although I'd say the best way to start is just to play some on Showdown. Copy a team from a pastebin somewhere (even one in this thread, although if you can find a tournament-winning one that might be better). Use common sense and pay attention to what your opponent is doing and what mistakes you make.
>>
>>31266696
i just started vgc this year, im decently good now. What really helped was cybertron and wolfes channels. giving me ideas for how sets are supposed to work and just watching overall gameplay. Then when events started streaming i watch those all the time. Just exposing myself to vgc and trying new things here and there helped me tons. These vgc threads even had a big role

okay so ive booted Gengar for Mandibuzz, so i can still taunt, and also tailwind.

I was thinking about maybe losing Arcanine for Marowak, and replacing Garchomp back with Krookodile for Intimidate

Smallest possible is eight players, which is three rounds

Cutoff for top cut is usually between a 2:1 and 3:1 win loss ratio, but it can vary depending on the exact number of players.

I suck at VGC so bad.I was actually pretty good last year, but now I have no idea how to build a decent team.I'm using a Snow Warning Ninetales + Slush Rush Sandslash, and in the back I have an Arcanine,Gastrodon,A-Muk and Gengar.I lost over 11 battles (though some of them were caused by my shitty internet) and I won around 7 or 8 battles.Maybe I should wait until I can transfer Pokemon...
>>
>>31268983
Everybody has different teambuilding methods. Copy a popular team and make changes to match your playstyle, or incrementally change things that aren't working out and better beat Pokémon you struggle with, or choose a Pokémon you like and build a team around that.
>>
This premier challenge I'm looking at says every swiss round is best of 3, but that can't be right, can it? I thought it was single battles up until top cut.
>>
>>31269234
That's up to the discretion of the Tournament Organizer.
Most TOs get pressured by their players to do BO3 these days, even though it can drag on and is a bit more of a pain to keep an eye on.

Hi all, I came 4-1 and top 4 at a PC today so my giveaway will be up for next few hours.

Just drop a sandile into the GTS using the message "I want to fill my pokedex with other languages", and try to make your request as specific as possible so you don't get sniped. Nickname the sandile with the nature/HP you want if I've got multiple.

On Showdown, my opponents very frequently "disconnect" and I have to wait 60 seconds for them to reconnect before I get the win
But when I try to close the tab or even close the window, I get a notification asking if I want to forfeit, which I can't get rid of without foreiting.
How are people doing that? Are they actually just turning their computer off, or do they get Chrome to block notifications or something?

So I've been having a pretty good time with this team, but as I climb higher on the ladder I realize I don't really have an answer to rain. Golduck+Pelipper just swept me pretty handily. I used to run Freeze Dry Ninetales instead of Milotic, I might switch back to that since it shits on Pelipper. I think not having a strong electric move is one of my team's biggest weaknesses, but I don't know what I'd take off or put on to remedy that. I'd appreciate a bit of help, thanks.
>>
Any Hailfags here?

I wanna try a Hail team. Any protips?
>>
>>31274111
Ice is my favorite type and I wanna run hail so bad, but I think I'll wait until both hail and Ice get properly buffed in 2033.
>>
>>31274069
While it might not outright beat it, you could try Maranga Gastrodon. Don't forget to pack Toxic and Recover so you can stay and be an annoying shit. Also, unrelated, but you might want to use 148 Atk / 108 Def on your Bulu so it can always survive a Poison Jab from Garchomp; going 252 Atk with CB is just overkill, and with 148 you'll still shit out huge amounts of damage.
>>
So in 2017 they only ban Pre-Bank Pokémon yes, not moves that can only be bred through Pre-Bank mons
>>
>>31274297
Thanks for the EV tip, I was hoping someone could help me tweak them a bit.

Why Maranga Berry? As far as special attacks go, I can't think of many I'd be switching it in on that it isn't immune to (water/electric), and people tend to target the slug with physical grass moves to kill it.

I'm not sure what I'd swap out for Gastrodon. I guess having it and Milotic is redundant, so I'd take Milotic off but I put Milotic on there to deal with Intimidate, which is really annoying to my team.

The best of those battlespot series is Ray Rizzo's.
He explains himself really well, probably because he was a commentator.
>>
>>31276215
It's too bad Ray lost his spark and now he's a jobber. What went wrong?
>>
>>31276327
allegedly he got really busy in 2014 and didn't practice very much.
then after he fucked up worlds 2014 he pretty much stopped playing for the next two years.
But he did go x-3 in London D1 without any practice which is pretty impressive, this year could be his comeback.
>>
>>31276459
I've always liked Ray's playstyle.

He makes seemingly generic teams at first glance but they always have non-standard movesets and little touches here and there that sets them apart from the rest.

>>
>>31280390
The Fairies aren't really the problem for fighting types. The problem is the same as VGC 2015; The best Pokemon in the format is a normal Type and since normal's only weakness is a purely physical typing, Intimidate prevents it from doing anything.

Mega Kangaskhan wasn't a problem because it was Mega Kangaskhan, it was a problem because Landorus-T was around and made it impossible to OHKO.
>>
>>31280442

This anon gets it.

I suppose the good thing is that most Pory2's are built so defensively they do very little damage overall. So unlike with M-Khan there is no overwhelming rush to take it out.

>>31280576
>>31280576
It speaks volumes when this is almost the only reason you see Kommo-O get played.

>252+ SpA Kommo-o All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 76+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 176-210 (91.6 - 109.3%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

That is a pretty good roll considering it's a fairly well invested Pory2 which shows why people are using Kommo-O, it's about the only thing which can legitimately threaten Pory2 on the special side. The only way Pory2 should ever survive that Z Focus Blast is if it is absolutely or close to max 252HP/252+ S.Def.

Really if there is any reason ever to pack as much anti-fairy/psychic slaughter material as possible it's to allow Kommo-O to function.

A Mold Breaker can't use Water moves in P-Groudon's sun, for instance, since the Sun is counted as a field effect, not just Groudon's ability.

I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with rain. Someone suggested Gastrodon to me yesterday, but it's too passive. Rain mons can't kill it, but it can't touch them back and if they have a Kartana, they can just pick the slug off at their leisure. Nothing on my team can stand up to Pelipper+Golduck, even 252 hp/252 spd Celesteela is almost OHKO'd by Hydro Vortex. Maybe I should embrace the duck, the only mon who can (sometimes) survive a combined attack by the rain leads but even that barely makes it through. I'll try going back to Ninetales to fuck with their weather, see how that goes.

Man, I did not realize Golduck hits as fast and as hard as Kingdra.

>>

Y'know, that's a great idea, thanks anon. My team lacks an electric type, and when I was thinking about using electric to deal with the rain leads, I realized Tapu Koko just gets outsped and slaughtered by Golduck so I shelved that idea. Magnezone wasn't even on my mind for whatever reason. It'd be nice for opposing Celesteela too. Is Specs the best Magnezone set?
>>
>>31286611
I've been using air balloon for synergy purposes but i've used specs too and it was pretty good, I only stoped because i kind of dropped the team all together
>>
>>31286298
magnezone can't really take the rain attacks though
>>
>>31286811
True, though if I make them choose between Magnezone and Bulu, their rain sweeper is going down. At least it can't be OHKO'd.
>>
>>31286152
You'll want AV Goodra.

It almost single handedly man handles Rain teams but a little support can't hurt either.

Pelipper/Golduck/Koko are just simply doing fuck all damage to it.

Bulu/Kartana who show up regularly on rain teams are free powerups for it. It's fire attacks may be culled but it'll be fine when everything is bouncing off it and it has a decent partner.

>I'll try going back to Ninetales to fuck with their weather, see how that goes.
Don't bother, Ninetales is a free kill.

It's too fast so always loses the weather war and it doesn't have any resists either so can't switch in or trade blows. Best it can do is OHKO Pelipper but they almost always run Sash now so you end up losing. It's even worse when it is one of those rare Politoed rain teams.
>>
>>31287378
I remember when AV Goodra was a meme last gen, nice to see it finally shine. How's it built?
>>
>>31287568
Dark Psiana's Goodra build is a decent starting point.

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
Level: 50
EVs: 188 HP / 164 Def / 156 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
– Draco Meteor
– Sludge Bomb
– Thunderbolt
– Dragon Pulse

EV spread is to live adamant Garchomp's dragon claw and not get 2HKOed by Kartana's smart strike and Lele's moonblast. It also has enough Spatk to 2HKO Max HP Lele with sludge bomb.

Keep in mind that this build is slightly outdated (it was played during the London's internationals).
>>
>>31288153
I've been running it with Power Whip. Faced one rain team with it so far and won, it does seem like a great answer to that weather and I like how it pairs with my Milotic. Actually, I'll just post my now hopefully improved (though I've been on tilt all day) team, see what people think of it:
http://pastebin.com/fnFEjRNS

I've noticed Marowak is starting to become dead weight as it gets outsped and beat up by so many mons in the meta. Might swap it for an Arcanine.
>>
>>31288842
4 Atk Goodra Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Politoed in Grassy Terrain: 174-206 (88.3 - 104.5%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

Not bad
>>
>Pheromosa gets paralyzed
>It's still the fastest thing on the field
This thing is too damn fast.
>>
>>31290163
Paralyze speed nerf was unnecessary. Maybe even outright bad.
>>
>>31290163
It's ridiculous how many people run 252 Speed with an increasing nature, too. 92+ or 236 Neutral is enough to outspeed base 130s.

I know that Tailwind, Dragon Dancers and Paralysis can be a problem, but overinvesting in speed is so stupid if you're going to outspeed anyway.
>>
>>31290217
I think the full para was the thing they should've nerfed, not the speed drop.

>>31290294
What bothers me the most it that they get a useless boost in speed. I know the thing probably won't last too much on the field, but an ofensive boost is almost guaranteed to be more useful
>>
>>31290294
What are you going to put all those EVs then? It's not like the thing can survive anything with over 5% HP. It's either that or wasting them on HP or defenses.

>>
>>31296746
Oh okay. Just asking, because my current team has kind-of a hard matchup against it, because I'm slower.

My team, still testing:

Tapu Koko @ Life Orb
Ability: Electric Surge
Level: 50
EVs: 28 HP / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder
- Dazzling Gleam

Pelipper @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Drizzle
Level: 50
EVs: 172 HP / 148 SpA / 188 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Scald
- Soak
- Ice Beam

Kartana @ Assault Vest
Ability: Beast Boost
Level: 50
EVs: 116 HP / 52 Atk / 4 Def / 132 SpD / 204 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike
- Night Slash

Lucario @ Focus Sash
Ability: Inner Focus
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Roar
- Follow Me
- Bullet Punch

Krookodile @ Groundium Z
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 32 SpD / 220 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Crunch

Gengar @ Ghostium Z
Ability: Cursed Body
Level: 50
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Taunt

The idea is to meme on people with Soak+Thunder or Soak+Leaf Blade, but there is a little more going on.

Gengar and Lucario counter Trick Room through various means (neither can be faked out. Gengar can Taunt Porygon and Lucario can Roar mental herbs). GhostiumZ Gengar also does a shitload of damage, it's a great nuke against a lot of things on neutral and Bullet Punch is a super good move.

Kartana is Assvest, because it needs to be in order to check Double Duck. Krookodile carries a nuke and Fire Fang, because fuck other Kartanas.

Alolan Ninetails is a good pokemon, because of Aurora Veil, a Strong Spread Move and it's ability to hit Watertypes hard with Stab.

Just take care not to use it on a team with a non-ice type holding a sash.

Despite having Aurora Veil, Hail puts you into a very agressive direction. Don't focus too much on Bulky-grassy terrain healing strats or fat water types like Molitc or Gastrodon. You want to hit hard and fast.

Redpill me on Silvally lads

I need ground coverage for my team but I've got Bulu so he's one of the few options I have.
>>
>>31274111
The chip damage is useful on your opponent's team, but be wary of it on your team, as well.

If you have pokemon that are bulky, but aren't bulky enough for one of the 1/2 hp berries to be useful, hail works pretty well in being able to stall to get to 25% health, in my experience. I have personally found hail harder to use, but once you get used to working with it, it gets pretty good at pressuring your team.

I've mostly used ninetales-a, so I can't speak for for the >icecream but be wary of opposing weather, as ninetales is probably the fastest weather setter in the game. This is good when your opponent can't counter the weather, and bad when they can.

If you want to be real a cheeky memer, you can give your Ninetales hail. I haven't personally done this, but I tend not use all four move slots, and I have encounted many scenarios where this would have been useful, and might even be good for baiting weather teams.

>>
>>31298958
This team relies on switches more than your usual team so I wanted something bringing me ground coverage while also being able to switch with one more for a side-benefit. Mudsdale prefers to stay in for long periods of time so he doesn't mix well overall.

So my options were Intimidate Krookodile, who can't into grassy, Special Flygon with U-Turn but lol Flygon so that left Silvally with Parting Shot.

>>
>>31274111
Decide what kind of Hail team you want.

Whilst everyone sings praises for Ninetales because it is good, keep in mind that the best performing hail teams tend to use Vanilluxe so see which setter suits you.

Don't just instantly assume you have to run Ice types to take advantage of Hail, anything which doesn't mind the chip damage is perfectly fine. Realistically the only Pokemon that can take advantage of Hail directly are Froslass, Sandslash and Glaceon, two only decent, one just bad.

Watch out for your Steel and Fire weaknesses, no matter how you build a Hail team you're going to be shitting those weaknesses both offensively and defensively.

Has anyone used 6 UBs in a team?
>>
>>31311535
A guy went x-3 in Dallas with an all-ub team.
>>
>All these fucking Liligant/Pheromosa+Oricorio teams I've been seeing lately
Is this the new hottest memeteam?
>>
Im new to VGC and have this dumb idea to make a rain/trick room team.
Is it possible or am i just retarded?
>>
>>31312050
Trick Room and weather are both extremely viable in VGC right now. You should do your own research and actually watch regional coverage and see what people have been successful with.
>>
>>31312050
Outright rainroom doesn't make much sense but Politoed itself works fine in trick room.

page 10 bump

Wait, what does that do?

lilligant quiver dances and so does oricorio i'm assuming

So with bank hitting in a week or so, what changes do y'all predict to VGC17? All I can think of is Fake Out making Salazzle a niche choice, is there any wild predictions folks want to throw out there?

intimidate incineroar will be released

That's not how it works

Mandibuzz will run Knock Off over Foul Play.
Power Swap is back, so expect potential Exeggutor shenanigans.

Oh and Marowak gets Detect now, so you style on the fags using Protect.
>>
>>31316324
>Mandibuzz Knock Off
Okay, that sounds legit. I guess we will be seeing more Sitrus Berry/X Seed Mandibuzz Tailwind leads?
>Power Swap is back, so expect potential Exeggutor shenanigans
Gonna need to explain this one to me, I honestly don't follow what you are talking about on this one. Is Alolan Eggy gonna be usable though? Because that would be noice.
>Marowak Detect
Well apart from styling on the one guy at the tournament running Imprison I guess that is mostly style points.

Anything else though? This could be a very underwhelming Bank update, unless they bundle it with HA Gen VII starters or something.

Any common DD Gyara spreads? What speed should it hit?

We'll have a preview of VGC18 in battlepost doubles

That's not new, we've known it for a while.
It doesn't effect VGC or the VGC battlespot.

It's not my fault you never read the manual faggot

Been there since SM came out.

>>31316475
Oh, so basically just the old Eggy set updated to Alolan Egg? Gotcha. With that being said, I do think that Calm Mind Tapu Fini vs Power Swap Alolan Exeggutor might be interesting. Not every day I think of a dragon as countering a Fairy.

Some VGC player are cuckoos that kick other players out of the nest and become commentators/businessmen?
