It depends on what do you like about them
If you like the story then pick Explorers of sky Which is the third version of Explorers of time and explorers of darkness, and then play Gates to Infinity
If you like the gameplay then Super mystery dungeon is the best one
Nevertheless you should play all of them since they're fun.

Not as efficient, I guess? Personally really liked it as you really felt like you were filling up a collection, but not like you were storing everyone away in a pc box either.

This. Double chop was OP in Gates, especially since you can "train" your moves in Gates and Super, so it can gain a humongous base power, and it's easy to train due to the high amount of PP, and hitting twice often makes it a kill.

op here, i wrote that because last thread was everyone was saying how they liked Sky better than Super.
Super is probably the best PMD if we're talking about gameplay alone, though many people don't like it's story since for many it feels rushed, some don't liked the school part, it doesn't develop any character other than the partner and it's main antagonist is a cheap badly done copy of the one in Gates to infinity.

I'm currently working on a mystery dungeon themed cosplay and my first parts just came in this week - I'm going to use this as a base for the connection orb and maybe get one or two more to have with me as props in my bag. I need to out and get the materials I need to make this look like the connection orb.
I'm also going to be getting a harmony scarf bandana and a couple of expedition badges to go with it. Maybe a toy wand and make myself some big prop seeds.

Do you guys think I could incorporate anything else into it? I couldn't think of much else from the series that would work well in a thing like this.

Depends on the game. The first 3 (Rescue, Explorers, Gates) have you take a quiz. This questions decide who you will be. The partner is always your choice. As for super, you take the quiz but it is only a suggestion.

Keep Super's basic mechanics, remove the shitty connection system, bring back recruiting, bring back nicknaming mons, bring back Gates's secondary team system (where you could play as your B team while out on a mission with your main), bring back base building and expand on it, have all the starters gen 1-7, bring back all the starters that have ever been starters in a PMD game (Vulpix, Machop etc) add a few more (maybe like Rockruff or something),give us a plot as good as Gates but without the non-Pokemon bad guy, bring back Sky's level of content/postgame

Someone had the idea of you and your partner being under the wing of a guildmaster, and then you become in-charge of the guild after he or she retires. (I think anon's idea was the guildmaster beign Drampa.) Perhaps giving the player the guild to run will allow him or her to make additions and upgrades like with Pokemon Paradise in GtI.

The most starters that a MD game ever had was 22 (in Sky). The only issue I see development-wise with lots of starters is dialogue faces and maybe some animations.

I think MD needs to make the "big bad thing that must be stopped" somewhat small once in a while. It wouldn't kill to have the antagonist be a legitimately bad person who is "normal" power-wise. Why not just make the next game a series of adventures that your team goes on? There can be a climax that involves you and some warlord or something.

Prism was going to feature Pokemon that followed you, but for some reason they scrapped it, could've been because of Nintendo's C&D. They're in the games code, but not being used, if we could extract it we could use those graphics for a PMD demake. It doesn't have diagonal graphics though, just front and back, and sideways.

I kinda had the idea where Marshadw would be in the next game, but he would be a little shit. Not the main antagonist, but just a pokemon that causes trouble for you.

Like, I just am kinda imagining that since Alolan Ninetales is a thing, that they'll try and do a call back to the first Mystery Dungeon game where you and your partner are on the run form the old Ninetales legend and Marshadow is the one who outs you. Kind of like Gengar, but he wouldn't be the only real big plan antagonist, which would probably be something like the Ultra Beasts or someone else.

Really I just think Chun should take a break from "you're here to stop the world from getting fucked" thing, and I would like to see an antagonist that isn't Bittercold or Not!Bittercold.

Alternatively, you could have a "save the world" scenario, but you are saving it from a group of Pokemon instead of a singular legend, a meteor, or a non-pokemon. Perhaps the antagonist could be self-righteous extremists, ambitious conquerors, or powerful criminal gangs.

If you haven't played it already, Prism has a segment in it where you control one of your team members and explore a forest with a Pokemon village. Although it still uses the regular battle system, wandering around and talking to NPCs feels a lot like the MD games. There's even a reference to RT involving a Butterfree who can't find her kid.

Alternatively, you could have it be you get lost during your fight with the BBEG in weird space. You spend the next few days of the game playing your character and your partner separately, where you are trying to survive and find a way out, and your partner is trying to find someone or something that can rescue you out of weird space. I must emphasise that while I do hold the above beliefs, I also believe that innate assets and flaws are not certain as evolution and heredity is a crapshoot.

I also believe that there are degrees and flavors of "good" and "evil". I think what would be great is for there to be Pokemon that are bad-to-the-bone, but even they have lines they would not cross. Those Pokemon later fight against a greater threat that you are also facing to show the players that lesser evils will make truce with good to fight against greater evil.

I love freeform, though without some balancing force it's hard to make the games not feel utterly up the DM's discretion which can feel really freaking bad. I usually solve this with a bit of dice, giving reasons as to why a high roll fails or a low roll succeeds. Feels much better in general.

It's a tough decision. A system reskinned for Pokemon would be the best way (but only stat out the Pokemon as they appear, not trying to do alll before you start) maybe look into FATE. I've never used it because I love lots of rules and crunch, but I've heard it's good to keep things in line while being still basically a freeform game. Post by post is best if you want a constant world with multiple people doing their own thing, but roll20 would be best for a mystery dungeon type thing, get a group together as a team and make random dungeons (there are plenty of generators) with themes and goals and shit. No. It chooses a random start point and a random end point, creates a path between them, uses the end point as a new start point and chooses a new random end point, creates a path, etc. This makes a fully-connected network of corridors. It stops when the total length of all the paths are one-tenth the total number of tiles. If the path ever doubles back on itself, which it often does, that's what creates dead ends

I had it doing rooms first initially, but since my floor is just an int array and doesn't store any data about the rooms I had no way to know if a room was connected after it was placed. But I just switched it to have corridors placed first and it worked like a charm. Pic is the floor before rooms are placed

Now it just needs to skip placing any corridor tiles that would create a 4x4 shape. Although wide corridors might be a cool idea

Using or attaching emeras builds a meter that can then be used up to execute a Z-Move. You can power up whatever type of move you want, but the catch is that you need the Z Crystal that matches first. No need to hold it or anything.

An address is where you find the value to edit. It just points to where the value is.
Let's say you want to edit the first Pokémon in the team to be a Bulbasaur in the European version
First you enter the RAM address 0xA17C2C
and then you edit the value to 01
