Dresses and other clothes that cover lots of body are signs of luxury usually worn by middle-high class civilized pokemon. The Society are basically all nobles because of reputation and accumulated wealth. They're like a bunch of nerdy-ass scholars that actually accomplished something not-scholars want, and there's plenty other stuff around that they dipped their fingers into. None of that mattered, I just wanted to justify cute dresses.

Going past the "Pokédex entries are bs" factor, evolving into a wingless Salamence practically gives up half of the advantages of Salamence's physiologics and design w/r/t potential prey and competitor species. A Salamence can only turn around fast enough while flying and is armored against anything and all that flies below it, not that flies -or walks- level to it. Plus, on the ground, that spine and tail configuration is tremendously exploitable unless you go the way eg.: Kommo-o goes.

Character-wise, a Shellgon that gave away its dream of flying yet somehow evolved into a wingless Salamence is going to face the issues of a quitter with quite a though road ahead, in particular if being self-conscious enough to realize they not only don't like their own body but they are not in comfort in their own natural role.

And they'll have to figure out a way to literally watch their backs. Suggests an interesting psychology at work there.

This is gonna be a weird request, but it's a sort of niche that I'd like to see in a Pokemon fanfic. Human ends up in a world of Pokemon. Not talking Mystery Dungeon, not talking about canon Pokemon world, I mean a normal human ending up in a world where Pokemon rule (feral or anthro, but preferably anthro).

Based on the Pokestar movie, the MC was found frozen by captured humans. Of course being aware after frozen probably wold lead to some bizarre fights and escapes from people and Pokemon alike until he saw a familiar face, who too recognized him from the past...

This is probably the first lewd written of bayleef here, ever. Strange, considering the famous one in the anime.
Compared to the other transitions to lewd you have done, this one has the most cheesiness to it.
Honestly for the last very intimate act a stronger reaction to the forbidden entrance could do, whether it be a yelp, a loud gasp, or a sudden jump in surprise.
Otherwise it felt relatively straightforward. I say it's better than the absol one, but not as good as the scolipede one.

Comes off as slightly awkward. It is understood to be rhetorical, but the abruptness in shifting from the question to the answer draws away from the impact the question is intended to have. It needs a pause of some kind - you could restructure the entire sentence following "What do I care" to end with "Okay, I guess I care alot," which, in my mind, would better aid the flow of the question into paragraph and answer.

Otherwise, as I said before, I quite like it. Nanu's a neat dude and a fun trope to watch, and seeing work with him in it usually means you're in for some warmhearted world weariness.

I've invented a type of ending I feel is the opposite of 'Bittersweet'. I call it 'Tragicomfy'. I'll probably be able to demonstrate it for you guys sometime, but not with my current project.

Every chapter of BSTF was posted as soon as I finished it, no proofreading or refining beyond what I made mid-process. I generally made edits based on feedback a couple days after I released them. In the cases this involved edits to previous chapters, this managed to confuse just about everyone involved, including myself at times.

I'm currently experimenting with a different writing process that should minimize this risk when I return to a chapter-by-chapter release schedule. In the meantime, my next two stories will be no chapters, just straight-through, and will be passed by a couple beta readers before posting.

By the time I've written a story out, I've gone over the early material a few times, so it's not usually long after that. As I post a chapter each week, each chapter gets a last-minute revision pass, and over the course I usually proof the latter bits a few times for continuity checking. Only E/V had an error big enough that I missed a week, because something that changed late in writing had a temporarily unrecognized consequence.

One-offs I tend to just shove out the door; they're simple enough that continuity isn't much of a concern so I just stay ready for typo fixes if anything is pointed out.

the distinguishing factor in both arceus tower fun journal and floofy doggo ears was that the heroes were highly experienced, highly motivated, charismatic and willing to take on overwhelming threats on their own initiative. they were rightfully looked on as heroes and even though they got their butts kicked by alexander earlier on its somewhat forgivable because they came back and managed to survive whereas their rivals (possibly) did not. this is different than most pmd fics where the protagonist is angsty, helpless and ineffectual and comes off as more annoying than someone we can root for (at least until they build up proper experience).

my point is that it isn't about being "happy" specifically that's really what's missing from TMOM, its whether or not the audience can spend time continually rooting for the heroes (as some of those pics suggest) or if we just hope they get over their damn emotional dysfunction and helplessness already so they can go back to their proper job of being heroes again

Had I not been given this advice, maybe the dialogue would have taken an extremely steep dive in the opposite direction towards manic obsession and denial. I try to take a shower before I write in order to try and clear my head in order to help me write. Helps me visualize what I need to write down before actually doing it. In fics what do you guys have your human characters eating? Like, I went back to go read a fic I haven't worked on in like three years and wrote the characters eating turkey sandwiches and bacon, and only now did I stop to think "where the hell did that meat come from?"

How do you guys handle this? I feel like using Pokemon for food source is a kind of borderline grimdark concept I dont really want to roll with

In the single fic involving humans I've done, I don't think I've mentioned food once. It's just not important to the plot, so I don't include it. If I were to include food in a fic, I'd probably just dodge the question somehow by making it nondescript and never saying what it is exactly or specifying what's in it. Or I'd just make it some sort of meatless food.

As far as I know, canonical parts of the series make it a point to almost never reference humans eating Pokemon, except for a few rare instances. One case is in the anime, where it apparently was said at some point that Farfetch'd are hunted for food. In the games, Basculin's dex entry says it's "remarkably tasty". And there's the classic story of Slowpoke tails being cut off and eaten as a sort of delicacy.

Like, rice, hamburgers, lettuce, pasta, asparagus, toasted bread, eggs, that kind of stuff. It's not any hard, really, in fact I'd surmise it's harder (and owtheedgier) to do without.

Let the world "autofill based on what's normal. It tends to work well". Where does the meat come from? Pick any of and or mix and match between food synthetizers (the world is capable of the tech), Pokémon meat (some Pokémon are canon consumed as food by humans) or animal meat (normal animals both exist in certain canons, and can be safely interpreted to be implied to exist in the others).

If you added the animal meat to your solution, bingo, you already have added enough available biomass and variety of that you also, as a bonus, get closer to solving the problems of 1.- what do wilds eat and 2.- why do Earthlike trees exist in the world. Want to add some variety? Prefix it with "water" and BAM! You now have the foundations to have the plankton biomass that the marine Pokémon should in theory be eating because what berries grow undersea, again?

And if you are asking where are the animals kept? Well, duh, in farms. Most likely well off the route paved for Trainers, considering we never see any yet the regions are notoriously big and farms have been shown to exist. Oh and then the seas.

Earth-like plants and trees are a notorious canon element of the franchise, we even have in-universe famous people named after some of them. There's no reason to believe the animal hylum is not there as well representing.

As I write I try to interpret it as lower-order animals (e.g. fish, small invertebrates) exist thanks to out-reproducing, but higher-order ones (e.g. Carnivorans) don't due to being out-competed. I ALSO try to write that not all pokemon are sapient, and eating those that are less so is probably not frowned upon. I haven't written* for any of these species yet is all.

in BSTF, as an island community, I could get away with 'fish', and I believe we've seen non-pokemon fish exist in canon before. There's one reference to terrestrial meat.

In the fic I'm currently writing it goes a lot farther, partially because it's supposed to be in a wilderness scenario. The characters carry an undefined type of jerky as part of their rations, and upon coming across an already-dead (and cooked, though a tad overdone) Scyther, an offhand comment is made about edibility but the discussion doesn't get much further.

Ultimately, as Snapath pointed out, there are canonical statements about pokemon edibility, but the series just tends to avoid it. You need not.

*Blaziken would normally be one less-sapient species, but the one I'm currently writing for has extenuating circumstances that I hope I've made exceedingly obvious in its first couple scenes.

Lewd didn't happen here. There's a chance for it to happen elsewhere still. I think it not happening here actually increases the chances of it happening there. We're back on the road again so I have two or three thousand more words to write until I get there, so still not sure.

It might be a bad idea to post a story update when we're less than 20 posts away from the bump limit, but it's been too long and I want to get this part out today. Now presenting part 2 of my Ribombee/Vespiquen thing.

I tried thickening the plot and adding more emotion here. I'm not sure if it worked out, so any feedback or advice for how to improve in those topics, or anywhere else in general, would be much appreciated.

Also, the next part will be the final one, and it'll also be quite a bit shorter than the first two. I'll work on it today and it should come out tomorrow.

OR of this story again. i'll be holding back on my usual feedback until the conclusion is released, but I'll say that the story is doing good so far. Good balance of the bit in the action scene and the drama that caused it, but I think the trigger (line 163-165) could have some more impact if Coba tried to talk to the angry 23.
I'll wait until the last chapter before giving my overall feedback. Keep it up!

How much prose is too much prose? What about too little? Do you guys prefer stories to be less description-dense or more?

I think it should depend on whose POV you're writing from. If it's a more frank and straightforward character, than less dense description. If it's a more intelligent character, adjust it accordingly.

Up to you mostly. Personally I like longer one-shots if they're NSFW, or longer chapter stories/shorter oneshots if they're SFW. Description-wise I love as much as I can get, though I think the important part of it is to make sure you know when and how much density to add to description/detail

I like description, but I also prefer for it to be direct and concise. Flowery, purple prose is well and good as an exercise, but when the time comes to put pen to paper, I'd much rather have a shorter work that says everything I need it to efficiently, than a lumbering giant that arrives at its conclusions slowly.

Ideally, you should write as much as you need, describe as much as is necessary. But that's going to be different for everyone.

Thanks. I'm starting to write again and one of my common criticisms was the amount of prose I put into things. It ended up being a bit overbearing and people were turned off by it.

I think it depends on the scene itself. Like if a scene is fast paced then you should keep things concise, but if things are more slow, or if you're starting or introducing a scene I don't think its too bad to lay down a paragraph or so of description. You never want to really pile it on though. To avoid heaping prose on the reader, I feel like you could break it up with dialogue or character action, so you give the reader the description in bits and pieces instead of in one big block.
Like if a scene is starting you can lay down a decent sized grounding paragraph establishing the setting or environment, then have a character make a comment on the weather or the surroundings, ect ect

I'm not sure how much you were able to keep up with even just reading the threads, BSTF's later edits might have been a bit confusing to you if you weren't able to. Then again, I can't imagine how you were even reading BSTF on a 3DS in the first place. Chapters 6 and 9 must have been murder.
