Hey guys, person who did the male Gardevoir story from last thread. I feel like writing something again soon and wanted to get some feedback on some ideas I had. These are all NSFW. Basically, just what you would like to see more.

1.Sequel to the male Gardevoir x loli. Will likely be a total of 3 parts when all is done.
2.Young adult female who hasn't had opportunities to find love has a heavy encounter with her Haxorus. (Was considering making the female futa, depends on if enough people are turned off by that.)

Part 3 of my Ribombee thing is here. Think of it as an early Christmas present. And as per usual, feedback and advice are greatly appreciated.

Also, this concludes the story. Now that it's done, I'll finally resume work on that Combee story of mine that I put on hiatus two months ago. I don't know how well that will go, though. I'll probably have to go back to the first half and revamp some of it before continuing, because I feel like parts of it require modification, especially considering that the plot's changed from what I initially planned it to be like. So, keep an eye out for it. Or not, if you so choose.

As for the Combee thing, it's called "Outcast of Comb Island", and it ain't nowhere near finished. It's only halfway there--according to my plans for it, at least. I'm intending for it to be 8 chapters, and I'd rather not change that. Mainly because the chapter titles are secretly an acrostic and I want to maintain that.

That said, I think I've bitten off more than I can chew, so to speak, and planned out a much longer and more complex story than I can handle, hence the two-month hiatus. But now I've started to get moving on it again, and I'll likely make better progress from now on. Feel free to follow along if you want.

Thank you for the feedback. Feeling unfinished was one worry I had about this part, so I'll have to give that topic more thought. There's a reason why some things may not feel fully explained, though. Although this chapter is technically the end of the fic, its events will be relevant again in the future. I'm trying to figure out how to put this into writing, but basically, TQF was kind of like a test of writing two stories that overlap and coincide.

And by that, I mean TQF is actually a sort of side story to the Combee story I mentioned, in the sense that some characters (mainly Crimson--not "Scarlet", by the way--and Taranza) appear in both stories, both stories take place in the same setting, and their events happen concurrently. My plan was that both fics would be able to act as complete stories alone, but if read together, they'd provide a bigger overarching plot, flesh out the characters more, that sort of thing.

So, if this story doesn't stand on its own as a finished product, I want to fix that. To that end, before posting this reply, I went back and modified it by adding one scene showing what happens once Taranza exiles the Combee. Specifically, they give up their grudge against the Ribombee and begin looking for a new queen to follow. Hopefully that ties up that plot thread better.

As for the honey, I personally feel like that's fine as is. They're making the honey to have a means of powering up and defending themselves against potential foes, and that's all one needs to know in this story. And as for the queen and her subjects, I couldn't find a way to fit it in easily, so I figured I could try leaving it up to interpretation. But if you really think it needs to be changed, I'm open to suggestions for how to improve it. Maybe I'll go back and add a scene at the end that shows Crimson trying to treat her swarm better, but I don't know how to add it in without breaking the story's flow.

By all means do. There's been canon Pokéballs in Time of Old™ without the need for an explanation (Giant Pokémon balls), and at least the concept of using Pokéballs, or similar devices, as confinement for a Pokémon dates from about 800 yr ago (Movie 8).

What you might (want?) run into issues with is availability. How easily can an Apricorn Ball be repaired, how long will it take, and hiw many countries will your characters have to travrse until they can find a craftsman for them?

And bro, every 5th chapter of mine is 25k words. Getting into the routine of writing everyday makes it hard NOT to make superchapters. There's nothing even wrong with it, people just get fatigued while reading. It's preference in the end, and if you work is good enough that people can stand huge walls of text, it's all the better.

Yeah I know what you mean. Self doubt is always there. I actually got into like a 3 year writer's block for it and I've been trying to claw my way out of it. I think at this point I've just been steadily losing my mind and I also dont really give a shit anymore so I just decided to start writing again. I dont even care if what I'm writing sucks or not I'm just going to do it.
(also SM made Pokemon my main fandom again and made me want to start writing for the old Pokemon fics I never finished)

I am not experienced in continuity, so in making a large-scale sequel, I've really screwed the pooch on balancing all the things that makes the series coherent with one another and actually having a good, well-balanced story. Maybe I'm just a little bit better at one-shots now, but so long as I'm trudging along with this fic I'm writing now, what I'm producing is basically doomed to bear the weight of the mistakes I've already built up in the chapters before it. And since I'm determined to finish what I started, that leaves me with months more of mediocrity in learning by self-flagellation. I know what it means for a story to go unfinished, and even if it's only average at best in the end and cannot live up to what came before it, it wouldn't be fair for myself and those who are actually invested to give up. In a lot of ways, your completing a story before it is posted would be a superior technique for remedying this, but without feedback, I'd just be lost in different ways than I am now.

A word of advice, though: I've been going back through these chapters and updating them, partially to just improve them, and partially to make sure that they still work with the direction that the plot's turned over the course of writing it, because my plans for the story now are different than when I started. Right now the prologue and chapter 1 are updated, and I'm still making my way through the rest. I'll probably finish the updates tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, and when I'm done, I'll create a changelog to summarize what alterations I made, so anyone who reads the early chapters before I update them won't need to reread them.

Finally some free time.
OR of the story. This was a pretty nice trip in general. Glad some Ribombee got written, and for the story to last longer than I expected. The ending, although not my ideal way to end cute fics, does fit with the theme you had in mind. Drama drop in chapter 2 matched pretty good to me too.

The final chapter...has me mixed. The first part seemed good enough, but there was something very offputting about the other half, particularly after Taranza saves Ribombee, maybe it was just because it was a lot more exposition-dense than the other parts of the story.

Finally, the added bit in the end could use some big revision. I think it was too tell-heavy and that 23 and 25 should react immediately upon their exile notice (Denial, anger, begging, etc) towards Taranza, before he leaves them in the wilderness. So instead of the narrator explaining how the bees reacted or their choice/decisions, they themselves have dialogue with each other and Taranza to do the explanation for them. Know what I mean?

I also agree with >>31018271 as it too has a potential for a continuation, although I understand where it ends could lead way to the main fic of yours which I haven't read. Next time you ever get the itch to write him again, maybe the queen can visit him instead, as a loophole to the exile. Or a bigger threat forces her out of her hive, such as a Vikavolt invader or even UB Beauty/Phermosa (who could influence hive to do orders for her).

Otherwise, this is a good story! Glad you were able to deliver!

I'll think about what you said and try to decide what to do with the last part. I've been told before that some of my writing has too much telling, so if it's still got that flaw, I definitely want to get rid of it here. I'll probably keep the same plot, but maybe cut back on the length of the expositiony talk between Taranza and Coba at the end, and show some more emotion out of the Combee once they're exiled as opposed to just having them stare at Taranza all scared and such.

As for how Taranza was let into the swarm, that's actually explained in the main story: basically, he and the queen were both caught by a human researcher at one point in the past, back before she built her swarm, and that gave them a chance to get to know each other. After they got released by the human, they stayed together, and she let him join her swarm despite not being a Combee. I never thought about it before, but now that you bring it up, it does sound like a bit of a plot hole for people who don't read the other story (which is understandable--it's got problems of its own). Perhaps I'll add in a clarifying line or two somewhere in this story, so people aren't left wondering about it.

Lastly, I think those ideas of yours at the end aren't half bad. I've had a few plans floating around my head to implement the UB invasion from Sun/Moon into my stories, and perhaps make that part of a larger theme throughout them all. Maybe I'll do something with your Pheromosa idea in the future, but for now I've got other projects to take care of.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea, and I also think I could tie it in to some other story ideas of mine. But still, I don't know when (or if) I'll get around to it. I've still got to finish the Combee story, and then there's lots of other things I've been wanting to write about. The Pheromosa thing is definitely on my list of concepts right now, though.
I've also never tried writing romance so I don't know if including that would turn out well. But there's a first time for everything, so I might try it. Who knows.

And if you ask me, if Pheromosa tried to take the Ribombee away from the queen, she would probably react angrily. Very angrily. Maybe she'd even gain the strength to fight despite the odds. I suppose your right for the latter. To be honest, I'd never thought of writing any adventure outside of the formula aside from slight variations to the norm. Belated, but no. Arceus' depiction is much more consistent with Amenominakanushi than the Abrahamic God, and even then it's a fairly loose resemblance. I don't think there's any reason to think that Arceus is tightly coupled to a bland-name Abrahamic mythos or even necessarily to Christmas in the Pokéworld.

Okay, I got stuff done. I'm at 9,000 words with this thing, and I'm still not done. I'm terrible with this stuff, like, "Oh, yeah, this chapter'll probably be something short like 3,000 words, haha-"NOPE!

Although, this time I feel like I pushed myself a little too far and wrote passsed when I was done, so I made the most over dramatic scene to what should basically be "Yeah, Zinnia's pokemon can stay at my place while she's resting at the hospital." So I'm probably going to have to rewrite that.

On the bright side, two of the four remaining scenes are just something small, like about 500 words, and the other one is nothing but back and forth dialogue while Steven's talking on the phone with his dad. Which I'm generally best at when it comes to writing, is dialogue.

Three more days of writing. Wish me luck, everyone!

Anyone have any advice on how to write/take notes for a region story? I'm playing through Sun rn and trying to catch everything I can as I go along. I've been typing as I go, but I'm not sure how to consolidate it for the final product.

If you just copy-paste the whole adventure, you're probably not going to get any love for originality, even if the prose is sound and sweet. My guess would be to take what you've learned of the region and think up a scenario of a trainer beyond the norms of what everyone expects. Maybe they'd start on a different island than Melemele, so you'd want to take great care in noting the geography, the pokemon they might find there, the types of people they might meet and associate with, and the general lifestyle they would have had prior to starting an adventure.

Follow mimiga's advice. Don't just go through the motions. I tried that when I was little and it never turned out well. With a region adventure fic, there really is no way to go about it without spicing up the foundation the game lays.

What do you all prefer in terms of tone when reading and writing? Light, heavy, silly, serious, mixed, etc. If you do both, do your preferences differ between reading and writing?

I tend toward serious throughout but with moments of silly scattered about in longer pieces.

when reading action stories I prefer light-hearted stories, something that doesn't take itself too seriously, getting a good balance of over the top fun and more logical moves.

In terms of romance lightheartedness works too but I like relationships to face challenges, internal or external, and read on to how they can be overcome. Of course they don't all have to be serious and stick in the mod, just something that pulls the string with the purpose to make it stronger.

I write mostly serious, tend to read humor more when it comes to non-fan works, usually read more serious work if it's fanfiction (though I read very little fan work these days.)

Generally speaking, serious works appeal more to me from a "what do I write perspective" because I wrote humor/smut for quite some time and sort of burnt out on it. Plus it means I have to write more serious romance if I intend to include it, and writing more seriously about and around love is very enjoyable.

I've been debating whether or not I should release it when I have more then just one chapter, in an attempt to post chapters more regularly then I normally do. I do at least plan on finishing the first chapter before the year is up, and will probably link the Google doc to this/next thread when the first chapter is done ifI don't give into the pressure and just post it.

This reading is accurate. The saying "all but X" can be parsed as "everything up to but excluding X"

I've always felt weirdly confused about "all but" as a phrase for some reason, and I personally don't like to use it myself. As far as I can tell, it's just a roundabout way to say "almost". You're saying "all things, except for this one specified thing, happened", thus emphasizing that the "one specified thing" did not happen.

Did the author of Stray die? I was really looking forward to the next installment of that fic.

It helps underline the severity of the event that is mentioned. When someone has "all but lost" you are effectively saying that they're at the absolute closest point you can come to losing without actually losing. You might want to point this out because the would-be loser turns it all around, or gives up, or whatever else you have in mind in the way of interference happens and you want to lend some degree of drama to it and also help highlight the subject of the expression in some way, be it positive or negative.
