I honestly think they're stupid, awkward, and pointless. This is Pokemon. Why do I have to make dumb poses for my creature to make a move? It's really, really annoying.
Even from a logistic standpoint... it's already 10 seconds of unstoppable animation every time a battle initiates. Now, it's 20 more seconds per battle for each person to use his Z-Power. And yes, the animation still plays if you disable the battle animation.

I dunno if it's a pose, but the smug style for the trainer is great. I went online to battle to try out Megazord Zygarde and the screen showing the trainers has me doing the Z pose. It was great.

Yeah, the poses create energy within the trainer that the Z-Ring transfers into the Pokémon.
That's how Z-Lillie is so strong; she does the pose but keeps all the power to herself.
