It's not that you don't get a "boost" anymore. Once you hit 256 in a chain, it loops back to 0. So #256 will register as #1, so you'll have the same chances as if you just restarted the encounter.

I feel like the odds for sos are off because I've found all of my sos shinies in under 200 encounters, but now that I see that I'm far more likely to hatch a shiny than find one in an sos battle, I don't feel as motivated to do sos anymore. I have caught five shinies via SOS chaining- 4/5 of the under 60 in the chain, and one at a hundred and forty something.
But I have hatched ~25 boxes of eggs so far, with no shiny results.
Now, I know we're dealing with chance and percentages here- but it feels to me like SOS chaining is way easier / better for getting those shinies.

Gamefreak has always been incompetent at programming the most simple shit, and always will be. I don't know why this is a surprise.
They happened to get "shiny with pokerus in genIII" lucky and struck probably one of the biggest goldmines the videogame industry has seen so far.
So now that they're sitting on the diamond goose they don't even have to try to improve at all and they'll still sell Pokemon like fresh pancakes. They couldn't create an algorithm to lower polys on the models to make the framerate bearable. They had to have Iwata fix their spaghetti code in genII, which let them put Kanto in in the first place. The list just goes on and on.

This should be common knowledge at this point, Gamefreak is a disaster of a game developer which has a ridiculously lucrative franchise in its hands. I can't imagine how much better the games would be if they were made by someone else.

We're still gonna buy or pirate the genIV remakes like the dumbshits we are.

I've gotten 3 shiny Ralts within 3 hours, it's not a matter of shit luck. It's a matter of the potential for you to spend fucking forever on something with a low chance. Recolors shouldn't be considered precious things. Just give me the choice of using something I like to look at. Minior is a great example of doing this correctly.

I'm not complaining about my person luck, I'm only saying that I've had both good and bad luck when it comes to shinies so I'm not terribly biased either way.

I think it's really stupid for recolors to be so tedious to get. 1/600 chance is somewhat decent, but it's still silly to gate them off behind that level of RNG.

Getting shinies has been simplified a lot since Gen IV, and it's at its easiest in VI.

Just snagged a shiny Hakamo-o chaining for razor claws. Didn't have a synchro mon with me but it ended up being Adamant surprisingly, with Overcoat, and 4IV were SpA/HP/Atk/Def. Ugly as all hell, but I ain't mad.

You have broken even with the odds. You had about a 50% chance of getting it by now because of how stats work.

For a better example, look at pic related. You start off on the rightmost side, where lucky people manage to get a shiny in just a few eggs. However the majority of people maybe have to put in about 10-30 boxes in to get theirs. Then there are the outliers on the left side who can only wish for death as they approach 100+ boxes. You're right on top of that curve sliding slowly to the left. When will you stop? No one but Masuda knows, but chances are it'll be before you reach the bottom.

Keep going anon. That shiny cat isn't going to hatch itself.
