Just failed getting a shiny feebas after a 250 chain.
It never appeared and the feebas never called for it helped for 6 straight turns leading to killing itself with struggle.

Got a shiny Mimikyu after ~2 hours of SOS. Unfortunately it's neutral nature, but it does have perfect Atk/HP/Spe (and SpAtk, lol).

I just can't take MM/eggs anymore. Good on people that can do it, but this generation's "Hold B" mechanic is especially frustrating, even by historical standards.

By comparison, SOS battles are even fun. I did enjoy chain fishing last gen, though (have a shitty IV Timid Cloyster that's looking to get capped after Bank).

So what's everyone's opinion on shiny hunting this gen?

Personally I feel like it took a huge step down from gen 6. The shiny charm requires less pokemon and SoS calling is here, but there's no Dexnav/Friend Safari/Pokeradar/Chain Fishing/Horde Hunting. Back in gen 6 you can change up your hunting methods. Here it's either sit in the same battle for about 20 hours, or sit in the autismbox forever.

Unless i can get it in gen 7 only, I'll probably stick to hunting in gen 6. Maybe the next game this gen will have a better way to hunt.

for shiny hunting, there's two main methods - SoS Chaining and Masuda Method. Masuda Method is the same as previous gens, except you can swap pokemon out of your party without a PC, and you use the autism box over an endless loop.

SoS-Chaining involves using the tendency of pokemon to call for help. I won't explain it all here, since there's a lot of stuff, but there are plenty of guides around.

the shiny stone is an evolutionary stone. if you think it's related to shiny pokemon, you are wrong.

the shiny charm is an item given for completing the pokedex. this triples your chance of finding a shiny pokemon.

In fact, with this generation you're offered far more control than ever with both breeding and chaining. The only difference being you can only get a max of 4 perfect IV's guaranteed by chaining, while breeding is easier to get perfect IVs.
