But that was an incorrect translation, so it recieved an errata that is consistent with the Japanese edition:

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you're just shitposting, but for the people here who genuinely don't know better, the set has been discussed to and back:

tl;dr Mewtwos, Dragonite, Starmie, all Megas, Electrode, Ninetales Break, Rats, Brock, and staple reprints are all usable and bordering on good. A few other choices like Beedrill, Charizard, Arcanine, and Hitmonchan are also worth mentioning.

It's not a stellar set, but it's not pure trash and there are cards worth picking up and using. It's overall better than Double Crisis, and about on par if not a little bit better than Generations.

If you're genuinely not shitposting, we can discuss it a bit more.

Irrelevant. If you're playing an EX deck, discarding one Electrode makes the prizes Odd, which changes nothing. If you're playing a non-EX deck, losing a single prize still doesn't matter, especially when it means accelerating yourself by two. EX Pokemon have sort of made people forget exactly how much six prizes really is.

And do people not remember pic related being a Tier 1 card? Sure, it has a much more generic/better effect, but it and other cards through the game's history show that the self-KO mechanic is by no means inherently bad.

The only issue is the lack of a good partner, but it has two years to get one.

And it's absolutely right. Not only that, but 4/8 of the topping Masters decks at Orlando were already running at least 1 Hammer. Combine that with the lack of a partner and Electrode isn't too good right now.

BUT, assuming Electrode did get a good partner, Hammer wouldn't be too huge an issue. You're obviously not going to use Electrode's ability unless you can actually attack with its Energy that turn, turning Hammer into a reactive card. Not only that, but Electrode obviously doesn't eat your attach for the turn, meaning that even if it's only on the board for one turn, that still gives you a speed advantage that can help you keep up or surpass your opponent on the trade.

A really good comparison to that interaction would be something like the Gen 2/3 self-discarding energies, similar to what we got in Double Crisis. The trade-off is that you give up a prize (which isn't that big an issue), but the benefit is that it forces a Hammer to actually leave and doesn't cost you your attach for the turn.

Fisherman is useful for stuff where you need energies in hand immediately, such as Greninja/Volcanion. The effect of Brock's Grit is very different.

I suppose that if you were very short on deck space you could replace a couple of Super Rod with Brock's Grit. Brock's Grit then has the advantage of being searchable via VS Seeker.

The benefit is that you can use it. You can build a deck around it, regardless of how viable it is. You can have fun with the card. You can have a complete binder. You can have a more valuable account in terms of resale by having that completion percentage a tick higher. Even if a card is obviously shit, there's no telling what the future can hold. I can go on with reasons. The saying goes: it's better to have a gun and not need it, then to be caught without one when you do.

If you, personally, choose not to have access to something, that's a personal choice. But when there's literally no cost; when you lose nothing by doing it; when the time between releases is so great as to mitigate any loss, you can't sanely argue that you're coming out ahead.

If tokens were some hard-earned resource, or if there were no quick, easy, and consistent way of getting cards, you would have a leg to stand on. But that's not the case.

A combination of reasons.
Secret Rares are hard to pull. Exactly 1 in every two boxes, I think?
Plasma Freeze in particular has six Secret Rares in it.
With a 1/72 chance of pulling a SR, and six SRs in the set, that makes your chances of pulling an SR Ultra Ball 1/432.
Ultra Ball is a staple at 4 in every single deck and has been for half a decade now, making it an SR of one of the game's most important cards.
Plasma Freeze is no longer being printed, so you can only get them in the secondary market.

But most of these reasons only apply to the physical card. While it's still expensive online, it's worth much, much, much less thanks to saturation.

Nearly every deck needs 4 vs seeker, 4 ultra ball, 4 trainers mail, 4 sycamore, 2 N, 2 lysandre, then optional other support like a hex maniac, an olympia etc. Next work your way up to a 2-2 line of Octillery, and 2 to 4 Shaymin. Hi, I've only started playing PTCGO a few days ago (nothing left to do in ORAS until SM come out) and have just gotten about 500 coins, should I buy a deck? Which one do you think is the best to get? Also I got a lot of the coins from the tutorials/beginner stuff, how long would it take me to reach 500 coins again? Also, if I buy a deck irl, does it come with a code that gives me the entire deck in PTCGO as well or is it just a few from that deck? And can you get codes from booster packs (are booster packs worth it?)?

sorry for all the questions I just thought this would be the best place to get solid opinions from players in the community!

What about the box set? I saw the Evolutions (I want to collect the Gen1/Base cards, shut up) trainer box but wasn't sure if it'd give the 60(?) or so cards in that.

Then again, I could waste $100 and get a booster box, I guess which is full of boosters. But AFAIK the boosters that you get don't contain the same cards with the digital code, so it'd be a toss up.
