It's dumb, but I'm kinda not so upset about it. In-universe everyone seems to think it was an extremely close match and Ash is clearly considered to be ridiculously strong by both Alan and Lysandre. Alan even sees himself as inferior to Ash by the end.

All that was really lost is a 10 second scene of Ash holding the trophy instead of Alan in the long-run, the win seemed kind of irrelevant to how the story progressed and characters reacted.

Most of it was not focused on Alan. Ash, Bonnie, Clemont, the Gym leaders, Steven, Team Rocket, Serena, etc....everyone helped in at various points and all had their own missions.

Literally the best villain arc the writers had ever done. I would have killed for something like that for the Magma/Aqua arc in AG, or the Plasma arc

The flower one is up for debate. Some said it could mean Delia instead.

The flight one, however, is NOT up for debate and is 100% confirmed. The thing that people keep forgetting is that when they were doing a special in the anime about "Ash memories" and were revisiting scenes of the past, they played the scene with Latias kissing Ash. According to anime production schedules, this episode was being worked on while that scene aired meaning the makers were 100% aware of it.

The airplane message combined with the tippy-toe kissing trope means the kiss WAS on the mouth despite how much Stale false flags it otherwise.

It's like asking if aliens exist. It's not IF they exist, but what does it MEAN if they do. Even if Serena kissed Ash, it might not MEAN anything. We just don't know.
