I feel like, after seeing all the previews, Ash will still be XY Ash but with the serious/mature aura he had during XY turned down several notches and his more comedic side dialed up.

He seems more charismatic in the SM previews when compared to his cool look in XY. But as we saw in the previews, aquiring the Z-Ring, chasing down Topo Koko when it stole his hat, using the Z-Move, standing on a clif with Pikachu over looking the ocean, those are going to be the moments where we see XY Ash.

I do personally believe that SM will feel like a loose continuation of XY, and by that I mean Ash retains his battling skills (for the most part), his knowledge of Pokemon, and his experience as a trainer. It'll be during the down moments when we get the comedy. Ash in class learning about Alolan Forms and Pokemon that have had their types changed, out door activities that lead to school hijinx, getting done in by Pokemon he first meets.

When things even get remotely serious we'll see the Ash we've had the pleasure of seeing these last 3 years. When things are more lighthearted we'll see a new Ash.

I'm excited for Sun and Moon, especially if the series gets a little darker later on when the Skull/Aether/Silvally/Ultra Beasts start to appear.

The above certainly being the case if the anime follows the games in regardes to being eligible for the trials once you reach 11 years old and they decide to take the dive and age Ash.

On an unrelated not to that, I'd love another series similar to Pokemon Chronicles that details events that took place in the anime universe.

That'd be a great way to get a look at all the other characters in the series while introducing new ones

I'm hoping for something along the lines of:

>1-26 School Arc
Introduce the characters, pokemon, and mechanics like Z-Moves and other key players in the future story arcs. Have Ash learn about Alola while doing cool shit all over the place and having battles. Arc ends with a field trip to the Aether Foundation.

>27-52 The Trials Part1 Arc
Have Ash learn about the trials and how he can enter them. Through this arc he goes around the islands similar to the Orange Islands and goes to challenge Totem Pokemon. We also get glimpses of Aether, Skull, and reported sightings of UB's.

>53-102 Trials Part2 Arc
Ash finsihes off his fights against the Kahunas, completing the Trials, and is well aware of the threat that everyone believes Team Skull is apart of. Maybe having witnissed UB's, Silvally, and them fighting Aether.

>103-145 Villain, XY cameo and SM finale arc
UB's are running rampant, Aether and Skull are raging war on eachother and Lillie is stuck in the middle of it due to her ties with Aether. Ash, his classmates, and Topo Koko try to stop the threat that Aether has created by stopping the invasion of UB's.

Ash and Topo Koko team up and fight UB's and get overpowered by them. When things look rough, AshGreninja appears and fights off the UB's with 100% Puni-chans help. Through the arc Ash and Greninja fight off and quell the fighting of the UB's, Aether, and Skull. Series ends with Ashs graduation and him learning about the X Region. He decides then and there that with the knowledge he has learned at school he is going to the X region and is determined to win it. Before he sets off to the X region, he says to Greninja that when the time comes he'll be counting on Greninja to help him fight his way through the League and whatever comes after.
