Very late reply, but for a year, though I'm self-studying in my leisure time so I haven't exactly been moving at maximum pace.

If you kept to a constant schedule and studied smart you could probably reach a level where you are able to play through Pokemon (with a dictionary close by for new words) in about 6 months, as long as you have a grasp on essential grammar. That's just my uneducated guess, though.

Then OR/AS comes out with completely broken Primals and shit.

So what I am guessing is that GF realized they fucked up, so they let loose with OR/AS, while they planned on fixing stuff in Gen 7. Evidence of this is that P-u-P is gone, M-Kanga has been nerfed, and this is all despite Mega's not even being allowed in competitive anymore, in favor of the all-inclusive Z-Moves, which were designed to make anybody able to use their favorite Pokemon.

All in all, it makes me hopeful that GF have learned from their mistakes.

The new Oranguru ability to get it's partner to repeat moves would have meant that any Pokémon could have abused it too, but thankfully it was removed, so it shows Game Freak is aware now, of the trouble it caused, and is looking to prevent it.

There's also two new abilities/Pokemon to counter Talonflame, and other Priority-move abusers
