There's no breaks if you play on Pelipper Island, but that's only worth doing once you 100% everything, since you can't visit dungeons you haven't fully cleared or do missions.

Super really screwed up when it comes to convenience, on one hand you have preset teams, multiple missions at once, and PI's hub is great, but on the other hand you have breaks, having to navigate many areas before being able to enter a single dungeon, Pelipper Island's inability to do ingame missions, and convenient options that should've been available from the start (Nexus) locked out until you beat the entire game.

Yeah, it's like they put all these great ideas in the game and forgot half of them. I still think the early Salamence and Dragonite are why the break system exists, but holy shit, at least give us SOME way to get rid of breaks. I shouldn't have to hack the game to make my favorites playable every dungeon.

Stairs usually don't appear. You can enter it, you'll just never get out.
GtI's placeholder DLC dungeons actually have something like this. It's just the room used by multiplayer missions. But it's empty, and there are no stairs. You won't be able to get out without giving up or using an Escape Orb.

Also GtI had some different types of doors and "walls" that blocked the way, something like that could be added to the demo too I guess.
If we use that idea from last thread about premade dungeons, doors that require you to do something in particular could help.

Yeah, right now what I'm trying to do is find a tile whose "ideal adjacent tiles" are the closest to the actual adjacency. It doesn't really work for every case, unfortunately, but patching in the ideal ones for the trickier cases might outweigh finding an exact match, because it is far less effort.

Of course, finding those erroring cases is trickier.

This really makes me wonder what a Mystery Dungeon game on the Switch will be like.
Seeing how the damn thing is capable of Breath of The Wild, what could we expect for a game like this?
I have a feeling the next iteration of the game will be radically different from what we have now. Completely fleshed out 3D environments (which are not limited by 3DS graphics), more complex models and animations, and I'm thinking of a completely adjustable camera angle.

There are more reason you would want to download the games files, and PMD is guaranteed to sell well regardless. You'd have a point if it was Shiren or something, but if it has "Pokémon" in its name you know it's going to sell regardless. I'm not saying you shouldn't support Chunsoft by buying PMD games, but there's no reason to not have the links there.
Also, downloading the other version of PSMD is useful for those doing rescues. (The saves are the same, you can easily switch between them)

Speaking of custom starters, I tried to find where the mon species/pre-evolved forms were located on Pelipper Island, since those are stored somewhere else. Since Pokemon never take breaks on Pelipper Island, I thought it would be convenient to have these for people to use, in case they wanted to mass-edit mons without having to worry about breaks.

While I do enjoy the fantasy lite setting PMD usually has, I'd like to see Chunsoft's take on it if it sets it in something closer to the Modern Day. Getting rides in trains and boats, instead of on Lapras. How would a PMD story be changed if they all had radios and the like.

I wouldn't mind a dieselpunk setting either. Imagine some Dungeon being a never ending train, or having to rescue someone from a hijacked zeppelin.

Modern stuff like that in a PMD game would kill the aesthetic for me.

The games are fantasy, and while there is some modern stuff in other fantasy games, I feel PMD doesn't need that.
Look at it this way: which is more interesting? The zeppelin/train or the Entercards? Imagine what GtI would be like if you strictly road a zeppelin/train instead of using the Entercards for example. Imagine them using radios instead of Frisms.

GtI is probably a shitty example, but you get what I mean. Imo, it just wouldn't feel like a PMD to me.

How do you determine the true difficulty of a dungeon. I'm new to the mystery dungeon, and in super mystery dungeon some dungeon with the same difficulty can be either a walk in the park or full of pokemon that will one shot your team member.

Those examples don't work at all. The reason why they needed Entercards is because they couldn't reach the Great Glacier through normal means, and it's highly doubtful that they'd be able to get there even through train, considering they couldn't fly there. Frisms were treasures found inside of the glacier, it wouldn't make sense for them to randomly pick up radios there.
PMD in general does a pretty shitty job at keeping the "fantasy" theme, with the previously stated Entercards being advanced technology, and Super having its own PokéTwitter and a holographic globe that allows you to instantly travel to those places, both being technology-based.

Orbs seem more like Wands in that they're like magic, whereas Entercards and the Nexus were clearly made by other Pokemon.

Got to the part when I come back from the future, and I'm still not getting into the plot. Most of the cast is so bland or just exists to fill space, the protagonist is as flat as cardboard, and the main partner's whiny and acts borderline retarded at some points. The actual gameplay's wearing me down too. There's no real challenge to things since the game gives you great items like ranged pebbles to chip damage from afar, and seeds and orbs that completely incapacitate any enemy that poses a slight threat. Am I at "the good part" or do I still have to play for hours before it starts being decent?

This was the main reason I couldn't get into Sky's story either. It's fine plot wise, but since I didn't care for even a single character, it was emotionally dead. Episodes were a big improvement though.

Gates is the reverse for me. The plot was a bit of a melodramatic mess Still better than Super's but since the characters were good enough to make me care for them, the story pulled through in the end.

If you're not enjoying the gameplay, Level 1 dungeons might be something you'd enjoy more, since there's actual challenge to it, provided you don't cheese it with crutches like Drifblim or Smoochum.
PMD's plots/stories are overrated as hell anyway, they each have their own major flaws but Explorers' flat cast make it the worst if you like stories for their characters.

Super has better gameplay even before hitting the postgame, the partner's the best in the series, and the general cast in the first half is pretty good, but once you leave the first town the plot itself becomes a huge mess, and the rather decent cast is replaced with literal whos on par with Explorers'. If you're okay with that, you should give that game a try.

How would you incorporate them before the voidlands? And how could the rest of the characters be improved?

Maybe like Pancham and Shelmet initially try to follow you and you only find out later? And the section before (and after) Nuzleaf comes to visit you could be made longer, to include more interaction with the characters.

Suffers from having flat, bland characters that contribute little to the plot. The partner, who actually did have some personality to him, was rather unlikable. The plot tried to take itself too seriously all of a sudden, resulting in mood whiplash. It also started the trend of asspulling their way out of writing blocks whenever anything remotely unhappy comes out of something, like in SE5's ending.

Barely anything mattered, outside of Ninetales/Gengar and stopping the meteorite. Everything felt like filler, with it barely contributing to an overarching plot or anything, and said miniplots were forgettable at best. Also suffers from Explorers' bland character syndrome.

While the characters were decent, the story itself was rather simple and not too special. The partner's desire to make a Pokemon paradise doesn't matter much, only existing so you can actually befriend him, since it otherwise doesn't matter much to the plot. The game also loves to mention how bad the world is every five seconds.

Everything about the second half that's been said already. From the batshit insane stone plot, to having the most sterile characters in the series, to having everything happen in an instant, there was a lot that went wrong there. Also has even worse asspulls than Explorers, especially with the scarves.
Personally find the music and the fact that any mon is viable to be the best things.

I wouldn't say anon didn't consider your problems valid, but the way you presented them it sounds as if they were big, major points that could've been the bits that actually made sense.
To that anon perhaps those points aren't as big a deal. And I reckon that for others they aren't a major problem either.

I can agree that Explorers has poor foreshadowing, though Rescue team was more of an adventure with an excuse. I don't think the plot was the point as much as giving you a reason to go through a bunch of hoops. For Gates, while true, I can't help but consider that PMD in the past has been super bad at not thinking the players are goldfish. Especially Sky.

I think the point of Super on the other hand was specifically to maek you feel like everything's different in Lively town, but the stone plot would've happened at some point anyway.
The scarves don't really have a point, I can agree. The fact that they're given so much time seems like they're just an excuse for the mons to suddenly evolve for reasons.

The Entercards are fantasy; how else do they work? The Connection Orb I can agree with, but it's still rooted with fantasy unlike the others above. We don't know how they're able to work (electricity? magic? etc.?)

Not that anon but I think a modern town setting could work and still have a "comfy" feel and a sense of adventure, but I don't think technology should replace any sort of fantasy element.
I think the Mother series did it right, with things like train/bus rides to get to other towns for convenience, but has its limits (you could only use them to get to towns, you can't travel anywhere with them) and still had things like the Onyx Hook and PSI Teleport for a more fantasy method of transportation. The late game or anywhere straying from the town removes technology for fantasy, like Tenda Village's weird tribe, Sanctuary Dungeons or Magicant.
It's all about execution.
What you're thinking is to replace everything with modern technology, which wouldn't work well at all.

I suppose it'd come across as strange since the series already established that semi-tribal feel to their settings. They'd need a good explanation (or separate the modernized title from the rest of the series) to justify why things are the way they are.
I was thinking maybe the human-turned Pokemon in Gates succeeded in making a paradise, effectively making life a bit more "human", or electric types using their abilities to their advantage and creating a more modern town.

Experience curve and stat data has been succesfully copied from PSMD. No experience yield though.
Looking into converting the animation XML data into a format that can be more easily imported.
The first steps towards supporting randomly-generated-dungeons are going, as automatically setting up tiles based on adjacencies is pretty much done.

By the looks of the towns (and especially Noe town), they do look like they're trying to replicate modern human life. Imagine a pokemon finding an old picture book of human cities and thinking that they should try to live like humans.

They still have a long way to go in the technology department, though. The only known working piece of advanced technology is the Nexus and I'm not sure they know how it works either especially not Jirachi.
