There was no flow from the rest of the fight going into the final exchange of attacks, nor was there a logical progression from their previous battles. With a second region being possible this time around maybe all this disappointment in xyz is part of based directors keikaku. If Kalos is post game thenthe games can tie up loose ends like the power plant doors while in the anime ash returns and rematches diantha while Alan is revealed to be the new champion like blue was in the gen 1 games. Alternatively we could also get hoenn in the games instead so that we could see the battle frontier finished in the games while in the anime it leads to ash reuniting with Serena. So either we get champion ash or amour depending on what region we get for post game

Well this September was the 10th anniversary of DP, and this November will be the 14th anniversary of AG/Hoenn. Its gotten to the point where May and Dawn are now decade old characters, rather than being "the new pokemon girls" like they used to be.

Its funny how different the online pokemon fandom is now compared to a decade ago. Back then you still had people thinking Misty would return, that Brock was still relevant, that May or Dawn would last longer than one gen, etc.

Its so funny how the passage of time makes you realize who was right, and who was wrong, in their predictions of the anime from 10-15 years ago.
