I've found Magneton to be surprisingly good for dealing with Lapras, in spite of the low CP cap.

CP 1186 Magneton vs a CP 1580 or so Lapras, with Spark and Flash Cannon took it out with about half HP remaining.
Would've been even better if it had Spark/Discharge.
Most importantly it will resist anything Lapras can throw at it.

Level up power increments are not linear. That's why people say it's better to have a good IV lvl 30 than a bad IV lvl 40 or why some others think powering up past 30 is a waste of stardust for players on a budget. Every gym in my area is level 10 Valor. There are no exceptions unless I travel accross the bridge and then Mystic dominates that entire area. I used to be able to collect maybe 40 coins if I tried but not anymore ever since a large group of 11 people took over every gym at night. I bought 550 coins and I don't regret it at all, I've spent much more just to be able to play shit games, so $5 for a game that's given me dozens of hours of fun is alright. Oh that's easy anon. You didn't adjust your playstyle as you leveled. Try this, don't go for Pidgeys or Ratatas unless they have >100 cp. Same with almost anything else common in your area.

Now there are some things that are always worth going for like Eevees and Growlithes and the like so flavor to taste.

Basic idea is there's little point wasting balls on catching a cp 300 Pidgey when a cp 30 one will be along soon enough to catch the 1st try.

This also means you have the balls you need when stuff you REALLY want happens by.

Vaporeon is the strongest Water type (Lapras excluded because it has no Water moves).

I smash vapes with parasects that are almost half the vapes' cp on the reg. Gotta have solar beam, tho.

Exegguters with solar beam are fine too, but they're too bulky and slow, they have to almost match the vape cp to be effective.

Don't believe the electric type meme. Jolteon, electabuzz, etc just don't have the constitution. Even if you dodge a hydropump, you're still taking a good size chunk of damage, but grass types shrug that shit off like nothing.

My only issue with Jolteon so far is I can't seem to get one with Thunder, only Thunderbolt. T-bolt isn't bad but I want moar.

There's a flash with white lines that comes up on the screen when you're enemy attacks. If you swipe once IMMEDIATELY after you see the white line flash you'll be alright. It ultimately boils down to reaction time. When you learn to effectively dodge, it makes gym fights twice as fun, and gets you out of the mindless tapping rut.

Don't pay attention to your enemy's attack animation, that can be distracting. Just watch for the flash.

Also, it helps to know how many attacks you can get in before the flash comes so you're not mid-attack when you need to dodge. I generally save my charge attack for after dodging the defending pokemon's charge attack for that very reason.

Even solo it's more fun smashing a level 10 enemy gym than trying to get in a level 7 friendly one.

The GPS only trick only helps prevent you from drifting away. Mobile signals often drag you very far away. GPS only isn't perfect but much better than high accuracy when you're not moving.

Is it possible for there to be a buddy nest, as in a nest that spawns whatever Pokemon is your buddy? When the scanners were up there was this park near by that didn't seem to have any nest, in particular there were no Seel spawning there. However when I go there I get Seels spawning there, not a whole not just one or two. I have seel as my buddy because they are really rare here as in I've never even seen it show up on any scanners and I've only gotten them from eggs. So I find it a little strange that they are spawning there and seemingly only after I made my buddy Seel

Someone took out that snorlax making things much easier to me. The new bottom pokemon was a vaporeon, I went there with a friend and now we both are in a lvl 10 gym in as city dominated by a different team.

Tangela with Solar Beam is incredibly efficient at taking down Vaporeons.

I'm looking forward to the new gym mechanics. Lowbies can train their 500CP shitmons against a 2000CP (downrated to 1000CP) high level players' mons and get them into the gyms. And collect their 10-20 coins a day.

If opposing team: I show up and stomp on an L10 gym where the lower levels are full of 500-1000CP shitmons, not 2400CP Snorlaxes. Free XP!

If friendly team: I show up and stomp on friendly 500CP noobmon with a Wiggly, low-level vape, or even a goddamn Chansey for full prestige. Yes, the gym is more vulnerable to an opposing player, but even if all I do is drop in a 1500CP Exeggutor it'll last the half hour it takes me to get to 4-5 more gyms and collect my coins.

None of this makes up for the fact that the game is unplayable outside of SF until the trackers are back, but it should at least provide for better game balance.

After an extensive field test (playing for two days in a major city) I have no more doubts: from level 25 to 26 the catch rate decreases dramatically, to the point where the game is practically unplayable without hitting stops constantly. The most egregious example was a 265 CP Pidgey breaking out and fleeing after a great+curved ultraball (green circle) but there are more. At level 25 I caught most of my Pokemon with great curved pokeballs, at 26 this isn't possible anymore. Everything requires multiple berry+megaball, even 100-200CP shitmons. This is unbelievable, fuck you Niantic

I live in a 3m people city which isn't that known for its Pokémon (or gaming in general) audience and Lv.10 gyms with huge 'mons change hands in a couple of days at most. The only gyms I've seen that don't get taken over frequently are those at the sides of highways where people don't stop unless they're there for the exact purpose of taking down the gym.
