There are three /vp/ cycles
1. Leak Season - The time before a game. Tons of people from other sites, most notably reddit, flood the board because this is where a lot of leaks are originally posted. Many of these people are underage.
2. Release Season - Probably the best season. New anime and new game, so many people are focusing on the game and shitposts, though still relevant, are pushed back in favor of people trading, breeding and battling. 3
3. Post-Release Season - Just shitpost land. People waiting for new games and such.

/vp/ is essentially useless except for pre-release season in all honesty. It just acts a place for people to talk about the announcements and such. Everything in the other seasons could be brought to other boards.

If I had to guess boards like /w/ and /wg/ are going to be merged (sadly, considering /w/ is enjoyable but /wg/ is filled with faggots from /g/)

/vp/ is the only board I read or post on these days. I've been posting on different boards and different *chans for 8 years or so and it's all down to just here.

I almost hope it gets shut down. Maybe I'll be removed from the imageboard curse for good.

/vp/ exists for a reason, namely because Pokemon is a large enough franchise it does not succinctly belong to any one board. It is /v/ but it's also /a/ and /tg/ and a significant amount of the content is also /co/ related.

I know this applies to other series too, but how many have such a FUCKING MASSIVE fan base, are still relevant, and sprawl over so many types of media?

Deleting /mlp/ would make sense. Even though we're both autism containment boards, there's only one thread /mlp/ content ever belongs on. It's not a video game, it's not an anime, there's no card games or traditional RPGs for it.

/v/ and /vg/ probably should get the merge, as unpopular of an opinion as that is. /vg/ makes /v/ sort of redundant. If I want to talk about a game, I got to /vg/. If I want to shitpost incoherently, I go to /v/. Some shitposting is ok, but a lot of it is the same old nonsense every day that gets stale. We also don't need generals kept bumped by three people actually playing a niche JRPG that is vita exclusive. Combining the two would hopefully clean things up and maybe shift some of the low-quality content away to other boards like /pol/

I think we also have way too many NSFW boards. I feel like they could be combined down some.

/vp/ though, at least has a good excuse to stay around.

There's also the fact the Pokemon games don't just consist of one series of identical games. There's the main series RPGs, there's the Mystery Dungeon franchise that gets a new installment every few years, the other misc spin offs like Ranger and Pokepark that pop up ever other year, Shuffle and Pokemon Go for phone scum. There's Pokken Tournament which is something completely different.

Two or three, or even more of these could be relevant at any one time. Does /v/ need to be burdened with 4 different Pokemon game threads? They're not the same game at all, even though they exist in the same franchise, so it wouldn't make sense for them to share a thread.

There's also the fact Showdown is basically its own game. Trading and Battling are both also parts of our community which require a degree of organization that only a designated thread can give. That's at the very least two more designated Pokemon threads.

When you think about how many legit thread spaces we can occupy on other boards, between toys/collectibles, games, anime, art, etc it doesn't make sense to NOT have our own board. Maybe they could cut the number of pages we get in half as a compromise? We do end up with a lot of double threads when new information comes out, or otherwise superfluous shit.

I'd just hate to see /vp/ get the axe, because it's not as if all the content here belongs in any one other place, and it seems burdensome to have to comb through several boards to keep up to date on my one hobby.

I don't know how are /hr/ and /wg/ different. As are /jp/ and /a/, /i/ and /ic/, /lgbt/ and /y/, and /e/, /h/ and /u/.

I was wondering, maybe they could make 'seasonal' boards? Like, boards persist for a few months and then retire? That way when a new Pokemon game, or something of that nature that generates a disproportionate number of threads, they can be contianed until the hype dies down and become less active, then reintigrate back into the main board.

I mean, I'd rather /vp/ not be deleted at all, but at least it's an alternative, if staying around is not an option, that would keep us from smothering /v/ next month.

I think /gif/ and /wsg/ should outsource its storage and traffic. They alone represent about 30 to 40% of all the site's traffic for things you can perfectly watch on Vine, Youtube, Dailymotion, Webmstorage or any porn site.
