I've got a9lh but only to emulate NES/SNES /GBA games and use PKHex (and even then only for even pokemon I've missed). Hell, I still have some qualms about pirating NDS games, and sure as hell won't pirate 3DS games

Hope you guys haven't done the latest system update. It allows Nintendo to nuke your 3DS if you are caught with anything non-offical.

Nice fearmongering.

If you have a9 it's not even fearmongering. just backup your emu/sysnand. restore if bricked. the end

a9 can't even be bricked because of the write-protection to the region of memory where a9lh is stored that is applied milliseconds into the console boot, it's always fun seeing antihomebrewfags getting brain meltdowns as they can't comprehend this fact
>>
>>28796275
rxtools here, I'll still buy SM, but pirate it first if it leaks a week or two earlier.
>inb4 >rxtools
It never gave me trouble so I had no incentive to switch. Plus it looks complicated, I have to downgrade to 2.1.0 and download 21 different files according to the guide on /hbg/
>>
>>28797672
you can and should switch to luma CFW though, it's as easy as deleting a folder and pasting another. I'm still running the old menuhax+emunand on my o3DS but I still switched to luma because rxtools is dead.
>>
>>28797672
It's piss easy and takes like an hour to complete. Stop being lazyfag.

I wonder when China will leak SM. I mean we already have codes for the games. Once review copies start arriving I guess..
>>
>>28797672
Well it's pretty long and tedious, but not really that complicated really
>>
>>28797600
I was referring to emunand or sysnand 'bricking' I know a9 can't be fucked over. Hence the 'restore if bricked' thing because a9 is basically hardmod lite. With restoring anyways.

I don't know too much about how it all works, but couldn't they use that write-protection against you? Make an update that changes something in that region, and then stop the firmware from loading if that region HASN'T been changed?
>>
>>28797717
No. That's the whole point in going a9 over everything else.
>>

>>
>>28797740
I'm not complaining, in fact I do have it. I'm just saying that what seems to be a daunting and complicated process is just a long but easy to understand moving of folders. I'm defending cfw you dip
>>
>>28796275
Everyone who's not a Nintendo cocksucker or a stupid kid has one at this point
>free to play
>guaranteed to leak at least a week or two before release
>can move the save over to the cart version if you plan to attend VGC or whatever
>eurobros got jewed over with the release date again
>the last two gens have been less than stellar and the game was recently confirmed to be less than two years in development
>can make all the moralfags mad with the spoilers
>>
>>28797798
What do I need in order to do this? I have sucessfully installed Browserhax/Menuhax on my 2DS before but uninstalled because it was boring
>>
>>28797717
The code in the region is loaded practically on boot meaning that code can be implemented then to bypass any checks Ninty might put in after. They can't cram anything into that region since in a normal functioning 3DS that region is supposed to house the backup safety firmware.
>>
>>28797672
Luma doesn't need A9LH, it works fine for EmuNAND too, it's just that it's the most popular CFW that supports A9LH. You can switch just by swapping a couple of files/folders on your SD card if you want to just keep EmuNAND.

Also, A9LH itself has been vastly simplified since it first came out and it can be done very easily now if you're on a compatible firmware. I did it on my brother's 3DS the other day and if you exclude time taken for backups to complete/files to download, it only took like 20min. If you just let the files download overnight, you can have it all done in under an hour. The process has also been made so safe that it's practically impossible to brick now.
>>
>>28797567
There wasnt a single Pokemon game that hasnt leaked early m8. This is especially true for the new generations.

I don't remember how it was with DP, but BW ROM leaked something like one month before release. The English translation patch was ready before the game even released.

XY leaked about two weeks before release but nobody could play it since 3DS hacking was in very early stages back then (the Gateway didn't even come out yet IIRC). This wont be the case with Sun/Moon obviously.

Tl;dr Hack your 3DS if you don't want to be left behind come November. I hope you're still on a hackable firmware.
>>
>>28797777
Welp, can't argue with those quads.
>>
>>28797840
Look up Palilect's guide on /vg/ hacking general
>>
>>28797922
There was a HUGE gap between eastern and western releases of the series till X/Y (worldwide release). People were playing japanese versions of D/P year before western release same with Platinum, HG/SS, B/W and B2/W2. Also there were fan translations.
>>
>>28797936
Pretty sure BW2's Japanese - English gap was only something like 2 months. But yeah, gen 4 was pretty rough if you wanted to avoid the spoilers.
>>
>>28797945
XY was leaked like 2 weeks before release. There were people with the game who stole them from their local stores. All they did was stream some of the footage and it was taken down really fast.

With A9LH you can easily create rom and convert it into cia so I expect that it'll leak as soon as someone steal a copy from store which got games early.

The other possibility is review copies and China versions from stolen from factories.
>>
>>28798022

Yeah, now that you mentioned it, I did hear some stuff about the JPN B/W ROM back then.

I already hacked my 3DS (11.0, A9lh) so all I have to do now is wait for the games to leak I guess.

Overly self-entitled cynics that feel 'betrayed' by Game Freak over one somewhat lackluster generation, and think that Game Freak needs to 'earn their trust' back.

I mean, pirating isn't necessarily a horrible thing. Many people who pirate will go on to buy the game if they really like it, and it allows for many people to demo the game in question.

The only real problem is when you get people who think that is the only solution, and decide to condemn others for not pirating.

But hey, people do what they do.

>>
>>28800522
I don't need arguments. I don't want to stand on the moral ground. I don't care if you pirate. I just hate the fact that people feel the need to make fun of people who choose not to pirate. It's my goddamn money

>>
>>28802225
I'm buying my physical copy, but the moment the cia drops you can bet your ass I'm going to install it. I'm not going to wait a week just because Nintendo arbitrarily decided that Europe should be collectively punished for what some mom'n'pop stores did.
>>
>>28802225
Me. I'll pirate everything I can but if I like a series or game I'll still buy them. Bought SMTIV:A and 7th Dragon recently, now waiting for Sun and EO5
>>
>>28802225

Here. I'll probably even buy both of them.
>>
>>28801759
Can the pirated versions perform in-game interactions like trading, etc.?

I feel the same way. Even if the pirated copies can do everything a legal copy can, I prefer to buy the games. It's nice physically owning it and putting it on my shelf, and knowing it's tangible and mine. Plus, I'm supporting a team that has made 7 generations worth of Pokemon games now.

I don't judge people for pirating because you bet your ass I do it too occasionally (there's no fucking way I'm paying to see Micheal Bay's TMNT movies or Sausage Party). But I feel like as a game hobbyist, one should understand that if you like something, you generally ought to support it with a purchase at least.
>>
>>28802919
>Can the pirated versions perform in-game interactions like trading, etc.?
They can. 3DS piracy has reached the point where you can download games straight from nintendo's servers and neither your console nor the online servers can tell the difference between legit and pirated copies.

I get pirating a game you aren't sure if you'll like, but c'mon.
>>
>>28803320
It's more due to nintendo's shitty security than anything else honestly. The eShop works by installing a "title key" onto your system when you buy a game that basically serves as authentication to download said game, these titlekeys are not unique and can be shared with anyone to allow others to download the games from their servers too.

>>

Luma is a custom firmware you can install onto your hacked 3ds. a9lh is an exploit that runs just on boot that can give you total control over the console.

Just did it last week. I've been done with the 3DS since ORAS came out and I promised myself I wouldnt buy any games until NX but that kept getting delayed year after year.

I know a lot of piratefags say this but for me, trying before I buy saves me a lot of money. After getting a9lh, I pirated a shit ton of games but there were only 2 that I played for more than an hour. Kirby Robobot and Stella Glow, both of which I bought for collection immediately after finishing.

Same goes for Sun/Moon. I'll be pirating Sun before release, and if I actually finish the game, I'll buy it for collection.

If you have a bunch of games (10+gb) installed, the SD backup part will take over two hours. Still though, I'll give you that it's completely worth, especially because of how damn fast it boots.
>>
>>28807436
You can just delete the game while keeping a backup save on the 3DS, it will be automatically restored once you re-install the game. No need to back up the entirety of it.
>>
>>28807434
Before I played the game, I didn't understand why people would want an undub, but on getting to chapter 7 or 8 (can't remember which, I'm at the point where I just have to survive), I fully understand. I'm still okay with the voices, but most of them need to shut the fuck up sometimes.
