I think it's done to reflect the atmosphere of the games. But can't say inside factors like trying to copy what's poplar with kids doesn't makes sense. It's usual business practice. I'm optimistic about it though. Looks like they actually hired writers for the games this time. At first it seemed like the comfiest game but then we are introduced to aliens and shit. Johto was still a pretty big advertisement (not to mention every episode was filler), also it sucked but at least it was somewhat of a continuation of the original series and Orange Islands. Hoenn really started the trend of Ash being reset and going to a new region with nothing but Pikachu.

Its weird because even though every saga has a fresh start where everything before is left behind, it still felt like it mattered.

At the end of DP, Ash finally beat Paul, Infernape's story ended and he got into the Top 4. Dawn's development and contest quest came to a nice conclusion. Brock finally decided to become a doctor and leave.

At the end of AG, Ash conquered the Battle Frontier. May finally beat Drew in the Grand Festival, and then decided to continue finding her own style with her rivals in Johto.

With XY, Serena's crush made her too attached to Ash and it won't get any real conclusion. And since Ash lost to Alan in the league, he didn't really get any huge accomplishment aside from getting into the finals for the first time...which doesn't really matter when all we saw him do was beat Shota.

It doesn't make sense. Every saga besides BW had some sense of closure. The OS had Ash beat Gary and Misty returned to the Gym even.

Scott is Cybercubed/Cybersai/Precita, basically a guy who loves AG and DP Sagas and hates Johto Misty & DP Brock with a passion. I agree with him on a few things (I also hate DP Brock & liked AG), but he's upset with SM Anime for possibly regressing Ash & XYZ for failing to let him win the League (which is understandable after 20 years of failure, but still, it's not SM's fault).

If you're a dubfag, you should know that the English dub has gotten dramatically worse since mid BW to XYZ. TPCi started fucking up the OST with only about 10-15% of it getting to the dub, they've been calling apples "berries," called Houndour a "Houndoom," Voltorb an "Electrode," and the voice acting has regressed back to DP level unlistenable status, so it's not worth watching: watch SM in subs.

Yeah, the buildup was too big for them to just write off as if nothing happened. I'm not particularly into shipping, but it is one of the bits of the story that needs to be addressed directly because it is a big part of the character (and not a throwaway joke).

If the writers hadn't pushed Serena's crush so heavily it would have been easy for them to drop it and for people to move on. Back during the first year of XY, Serena's crush was rather subtle and you could have just looked at it like it was just something minor.

But after XY59 and her design change, the Amour hints kept getting more and more blatant with entire episodes. Its all the heavy focus on it that makes the writers dropped it really disappointing. I can't imagine how kids/fans in Japan will take it.

The Pokemon Anime lost any signs of telling a story mid-way into Johto due to Takeshi Shudo's departure (original writer for it who, get this, wanted to tell a coming of age story with it) by TPC Japan, the Pokemon dub was then destroyed a few years later with Battle Frontier by TPCi (who have managed to get even worse over time, oddly enough), and around Unova, any and all continuity with prior Arcs more or less vanished outside of one time references or flashbacks.

Exactly. This is an Anime for children, and it should be lighthearted, cheerful, fun, and goofy in the first place. If I want to see edgy shit, I'll go watch one of the Big 3 of Anime, DB Super, etc. Pokemon is the last thing on my mind when it comes to handling drama well. Even Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade, and Digimon are better than it as Anime, by far.

My only real concern would've been how poor the dub would be, but seeing as like many others I don't like the dub these days and know it will be bad, it'll be a comfy ride watching SM subbed.
