I bought XY and ORAS Digitally since I never planned on selling them and wanted to have them with me at all times but now that we're nearing the end of the 3DS' life I realize it was a mistake since the games are stuck in my device and not account so I'm thinking of getting SM physically.

Pokemon games always at least retain their value if you keep the box and booklets (or like HG/SS or any special edition appreciate in value considerably). You'd have to be a literal retard not to buy physical. Worst case if you get bored you can just sell the game on CL and get your money back.

Games are tied to the account though I'm pretty sure, like I had Binding of Isaac on my N3DS, that broke and then on my replacement one I was able to sign back into my account (after calling Nintendo) and redownload Isaac
