No, it doesn't. There IS no problem. Those expired viewers do whatever they want. TPC has a guaranteed source of cash flow from the kids they bring in every 3-4 years. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

This is very different from Star Trek, which brought in a whole bunch of viewers, and then had to keep those same viewers captivated for 20 years. Pokemon has a guaranteed viewer base at all times, and nothing's going to change that for a long time.

I think you just really don't realize how the mobile market works.

Generally, for ongoing mobile games, you get your ton of players initially, and the playerbase drops to 10% (not by, but TO 10%) within a few months. Then the next new thing comes out and you're left with a small playerbase, but one that consistently spends money on it.

Pokemon Go retaining 20% of it's player base since it's initial launch is something that's only been matched by Puzzle and Dragons in Japan, and Candy Crush everywhere else. It's also gotten more money faster than either of them, by at least double.

It's a leader in the mobile world as it is right now, and one that we've never seen the likes of before.

It's doing fantastic.

There's two parties - TPC and Niantec.

Costs were actually minimal, which is why both decided to do it. Niantec already had the entire base game ready with Ingress - they just had to bring in Pokemon stuff, which was much less expensive than a whole game.

Now consider that they have literally 5 more generations of Pokemon to add, and every time they add generations of Pokemon they'll get a huge player boost. Also consider that their playerbase is going to stay at a solid 20-10% rather than the dip to 10-5% that most mobile games experience.

On top of the fact that it integrates with Sun and Moon, which will fucking increase the playerbase even more.

I won't deny there are actuall insurmountable walls that players hit, but that has much more to do with people living in extremely rural settings with few Pokestops. The player base in those areas is low - however, by definition rural areas will have a smaller player base anyways, so it makes a lot more sense to focus on the urban players regardless, as the rural players account for very little income.

Ingress has dropped down to ~8% player base, you're right. That's also directly in line with what I was saying. Go has dropped to 20℅, and won't be dropping below 10% any time soon. It has two major advantages over Ingress and all other (practically non-existent) competitors, in that it's about the world renown phenomenon known as Pokemon, and it doesn't require literal travel between countries or even towns - just down the street.

Companies are supposed to bank on be able to get by with a 2-5% player base after the first few months. That initial 100% player base allows the devs to recoup all the development costs. Everything after that needs to meet upkeep costs and just provide steady income.

Go didn't even have large dev costs by virtue of having the base game and the majority if the infrastructure already set up. So most of the 500 mil is actually profit, split 2 ways (with Google taking a small cut).

If they drop down to a million a month, a 99% decrease in profits, they'll STILL be making money.

And even after dropping to 20% of their player base, they're still making ~100 million.
