I mean I guess you could say that about any split evo but Starters are really important.

This. If anything, things are better, since while they may be more likely to end up with something they dislike, there will ultimately be more options and they'll be more likely to get one they do like in the end.

Before, if you didn't like 2 of the final evos, you had 1 other option. With this, there would be 4. That's worth them losing a few hours of playtime if they accidentally evolved it wrong.
