REMINDER: If you need a rescue, post your region. Due to a few things that make no sense, rescues are region locked. It's shitty, but be sure to mention if you're European or American.
Don't forget to thank your Lightningrod mons
Which game has the saddest ending in your opinion?
My vote goes to Super, it really hit me right in the feels. Though Explorers' is a close second.
>still working on finishing the connection orb
>new ace attorney game is calling me
Nth for Bulk Up TMs don't exist
>>28434931
I don't need them, my main can't be touched by electricity
>>28434976
I'll be honest, none of the endings in the main story really hit me that hard. Super's infodump just left me confused more than sad, while the partner didn't do much for me in Explorers. Some of Sky's special episode endings got me though, especially Igglybuff's. Do those count?
>>28435051
You don't get much for clearing it besides being able to use all 781 mons. I'd just hold off on it.
>>28435233
but I WANT to
>>28435233
>Do those count?
I don't see why not. They're ending, even if they're self-contained.
>>28434976
Explorers almost bought me to tears on my last replay, and I'm not the kind of person who usually cries at games. Super just threw so much plot twists in my face that I had to stop and process the information before I felt anything.
>>28434931
Manectric's been more valuable to me as a Thunder Waver than a Lightningrodder in Meowth Theater dungeons. Thanks anyway?
This is probably off-topic as hell, but I have a question for anons here: Have you been playing any other games lately?
Can you recommend anything good to play?shamelessly advertisting The Reconstruction made in RPG Maker. Pretty good and quite original for an RPG (B/M/S are the game's equivalent of health AND mana)
Now let's see how I fare against this fucker after I grinded specially for him, cause on first attempt, by the time his goons were dead, my party was pretty much in no shape to handle him.
>>28435382
I downloaded and started playing Etrian odyssey IV about a week or so ago, and I've been having an unexpected amount of fun with it, considering I just got bored with EMD.
Drawing my own maps is neato.
>>28435382
I don't know if you can name the pokemon. Can you name my starter Ocha and my cute partner Elle? It's okay if you can't.
>2 levels off hydro pump

>Have you been playing any other games lately?I 100%d Wario Land 4 on Hard quite recently after discussion of it came up here. It was a lot better than I remembered, and I'm kind of sad that it was so short. Going back to 3 afterwards is going to be difficult.I also tried out my first Faiu Emburem game in FE7, and it's alright I guess.
>Can you recommend anything good to play?Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
>>28435382
Mostly been playing rhythm games in between my PMD sessions, like Taiko or Project Diva/Mirai.Rin was the perfect name for my partner Jigglypuff since it's short for Purin and Kagamine Rin is one of my favorite characters.Rune Factory 4's also a great 3DS game, especially if you're into Harvest Moon type games.
Also played a lot of FE before getting into PMD, I'm hoping the next game's plot won't be as messy as Conquest's.
I'd recommend RF4 out of the games I listed.
>>28435634
Did you mean to link >>28435567?
I use a Landsknecht with a Bushi sub, Fortress, Sniper, Medic with an Arcanist sub, and a Runemaster.
>>28435771
why not sub your other party members? also that sounds like my party until I unlocked the other hidden class, except I didn't have a runemaster for the first two areas because I figured sniper was a damage dealer and not a crowd controller at the time, like how the buccaneer worked in EO3
>>28435890
I just haven't decided on what to put on them yet, if anything. My current team has done me fine so far, so I haven't had any particular need to bother with subs.
The only reason I put subs on the ones I did was because I wanted my medic to be slightly more useful when she isn't healing, and I wanted that endure for my Landsknecht, and to see if I could abuse that rage/breath shit for extra TP.
>>28436097
I used arcanist/medic instead of medic/arcanist until the very lategame bosses, since the mass binds are very useful everywhere and it's way more TP efficient than a main medic
>>28433738
It would be nice if we could have some options we could set to make our own tactics, so that they behave exactly how we want them to.
>>28434405
that's not how you say "in my opinion"
I still see a lot of people liking the plot in Super, just not here
>>28434526
>what is super
It's not nearly as hard as Shiren past the fourth floor.
>>28435382
The only thing I've been played recently is Shiren. I've been planning to play Etrian Odyssey as well. And maybe I'll try out Yokai Watch, but I don't know if I'll like it. I remembered about A Hat in Time the other day, and apparently its release is happening soon, so I'll play that if I can.
>>28436124
Don't most people still generally say Explorers has the best plot and music though?I prefer Super's music overall but I barely see anyone talk about it
>>28436201
Definitely.
>Finally get Bulk Up at 440 pokemon recruited
it's time to go murder some gods
>>28436123
Yeah, I looked up /vg/s guides at one point when I was trying to decide if an arcanist sub was a good idea or not, and it mentioned an A/M was better then what I'm using, but I like the strong heals, and I'm one of those types who gets attached to their team members and doesn't like to replace them.
>>28435382
Zettai Hero Project. (I think it is listed as Z.H.P)
I was looking for a new rouguelike to mix things up about two weeks ago, and I got hooked almost instantly. You start every dungeon at level one, and the levels you gain in a dungeon boost your base stats and level-ups for the next one.
It's a PSP title that you can get on PSVita. It felt kinda nice to dust it off.
>>28436201
Super's music is god-tier. I just wish there were more arrangements in it from Rescue Team and Explorers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuvy8vrA5Vw
>>28434976
A split between Gates and Explorers
Rescue Team didn't move me and Super made me cry for all the wrong reasons.
Why does this general hate evolving so much
>>28436722
>evolving does nothing for stats
>evolved mons usuallyaren't cute at all
>this is the one time you can use something that isn't evolved in pokemon and still have it be usable
>>28436722
We don't, it's just mostly pointless, unless the evos get access to better moves. It does next to nothing for your stats.
>>28436722
PMD's pretty much the only game where unevolved shitters can be good, so naturally everyone here will just use their unevolved favorites. It's even worse in Super, where if you evolve a mon the old form will be lost forever thanks to the Connection Orb system.
Some evolved mons still look nice (subjectively speaking, of course), like Jolteon and Manectric, and sometimes it's better to evolve, like if you're a Pokemon with no moves like Magikarp.
>>28436782
>>28436825
It changes your levelup stat growths, but that hardly matters since most of the time you'll just dump stat boosters on everyone to cap anyway.
I wish Buizel got Drain Punch, that's the only thing missing from this cute little water weasel
>>28436883
Even if my favorite got +1 in 2-3 stats every levelup i'd still work as hard as i could to buff it up.
Do moves train up even if you just use them at empty air? Can I bring training seeds, elixirs and apples to a dungeon and just spam stuff at the entrance?
>>28436722
I'd rather be cute. Digimon handles evolving better. It's great that PMD allows you to be cute and strong at the same time.
Also the anime seems to advertise that evolving isn't necessary in the main games, which is a little dumb. I like it because it makes the anime cute, though.
>>28437040
I'm pretty sure that you need to hit something in order to train the move.
>>28437040
I don't think so, but I don't know for certain. I wasn't prone to wasting PP by using moves on nothing.
Why don't you run some tests and see.
>>28437424
I'll have to try it out when I get a chance to
>>28436722
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon offers the rare opportunity of a level playing field between most pokemon, regardless of evolution status. With a few exceptions of dramatic changes to movepool, typing, or other features (Charmander versus Charizard being an easily definable example), there is often no reason to use any member of a line over the others except personal preference. With that in mind, a number of people like their cutemons more than their monsters. I generally prefer evolutions, but even I have a couple of soft spots for nfe cuties.
When discussing Super, this hits a secondary snag, as any pokemon evolved that isn't either a starter, partner, or gender variant is lost forever; you can never again get that Pokemon. Just use the evolved form if you want it. Even if it is your burning desire to tackle a dungeon with 3 Tyranitar, Ditto, Smeargle, and Mew exist to help that along.
>it's another day without motivated unown + fire pokemon
>>28437330
I too am almost positive of this. I recall Thrash Dungeon being a good place thanks to the training tiles there, but in general using a Transformer for the ridiculous amount of free PP and spamming that move throughout a dungeon will get you at east one bar filled.
Another great training method is Kecleon, if you can manage it. Any move Shedinja can learn could be easily trained using the Soak strategy.
I wonder how a conversation between Porygon and Regirock would go
>>28438794
Would make a nice SoL anime. They'd fuck at the end.
Do you guys think we'll get another mini-PMD game in between Gen VI and VII, like with the Wiiware games?
>>28438983
No, but japan might if they ask nicely.
Going to bump the questionnaire from last thread because I thought was interesting. Would probably help give us something to speculate on too.
Anyway; Hit me with your PMD town ideas. I know you have them.
What's the region and weather like?
Who is the head honcho there?
Who is Move Tutor and what type of building do they have?
Give me a special store and who is running it?
Name one important Pokemon there.
>Luxio doesn't learn Discharge until level 48
>What's the region and weather like?
A snowy mountain town, like the beginning town in MH:FU.
Who is the head honcho there?
A Walrein/Dewgong elderly couple. That Walrein act all tough but his Dewgong wife is actually strong and is the real leader.
Who is Move Tutor and what type of building do they have?
The move tutor/move linking is a Vanilluxe. One head is actually the tutor while the other one doesn't care and want to become an artist
Give me a special store and who is running it?
Don't have a name for the store but it would be a clairvoyance store. The store owner would be a greedy Gothitelle. For money she would lock wandering bosses in a dungeon of your choice. (it would be like reading the future in the lore)
Name one important Pokemon there.
The human would actually be a Swanna NPC who lost her memory.Later in the story you'd learn that you are also a human
>>28439154
>Medium sized island, rainy most of the year round
>Leader is a Wailord who sits in the harbor all day
>Move Tutor is a Smeargle, lives in a house with the walls covered with paintings of various pokemon attacks
>Special fossil based store ran by an Omanyte/star who can "open" gravelrock type items for a chance of other items
Is there any reason to use anyone but the leader/partner in PSMD? Everyone I want to use is postgame exclusive, their stats don't look so great, and they take breaks all the time.
>>28439885
I just run Player+Partner+random 3rd member. It's better to use your stat boosters on the starter combo because they don't take breaks, and have the third one just be one of your favorites or another strong mon so it doesn't die in one or two hits.
>>28434976

Though technically my main character's name in both games was Zimbabwe, which is absolutely not what I've chosen to be my written character's name and might very well require a post or two of explanation as to why I've named a personal inside joke and entity after a country immune to most diseases.
>>28439154
>What's the region and weather like?
A tropical island chain, something along the lines of Alola. The town's situated on a medium-sized island, situated between a forest and the sea. There's a sort of festive vibe, and Pokemon come over from other islands to enjoy the beach and the night life.
>Who is the head honcho there?
Oricorio. He's very fickle and his demeanor (and forme) changes constantly, but the one thing that doesn't is his passion for partying.
>Who is Move Tutor and what type of building do they have?
Drampa, a retired dungeoneer. Also doubles as the dojo master. His house is a hut modeled after his head.
>Give me a special store and who is running it?
Lurantis runs a swap shop where you can trade resources for held items.
>Name one important Pokemon there.

Good choices, so far. Especially with the limitation.
>>28434976
Gates and Super, both made me cry like a baby.
Unfortunately I was both an edgelord faggot and didn't know english very well when I played the pre-EoS PMDs so I didn't feel much. Athough EoS's last special episode really got me, and Dialga's theme gives me chills even by remembering it. I should seriously replay those games now that I'm not a shitty teenager, guess I'll do after my exams.
>>28440378
Also had a Fennekin, and namedhimafter mybest friend.;_;
Super ruined PMD for me.I associated the partner personality with fennekin and since fennekin is not available in other PMD, I can't enjoy them.
>>28446308
The partners in other PMD games aren't even anything like Super's, though. RT's is cardboardand also ditches you, Explorers' is a coward, and Gates' is a lonely guy that feigns optimism. Super's is the only one that's energetic and overall cute.
I just associate RT with Mudkip, Explorers with Treecko, Gates with Pikachu and Super withJigglypuff
>>28446702
I know but in my head canon the partner must be of the same specie even with a different personality. The one with the best personality ''winning'' and becoming the partner I must have in every game.
Before super it was charmander.
>>28446702
>Jigglypuff
Hi Poochyena

>>28447455

>>28436722
Honestly? I love Swampert, but the fact that it doesn't have a goddamn sleeping animation is what keeps me from evolving it.
>>28449289As far as I recall, Espanon started off just as someone posting their playthrough of RT, with the player being Eevee. After a joke about how funny it'd be to use Attract on Rayquaza, discussion spiraled into Eevee/Espeon becoming a lewd fiend who could corrupt anymon they came across. Then came the lore with parallel universes, along with a continued playthrough of EoS.

Continent sized, could be explained as that you only saw half the world in PSMD. Town is located amid the ruins of an ancient city in the deep of the continent, and even has a few dungeons of it's own. Who built the ruins isn't exactly clear at firstbetter preserved ruins look more like modern human buildings.
>Head Honcho
Bronzor, he looks even more aged than the normal. Says that he has been living in the ruins since they were an actual city, yet doesn't say why it ended as ruins.he was actually asleep most of these last centuries.
>Move Tutor
Rotom and his "magic box", actually a TV it can inhabit. Building looks the same as the other ruinsand also like a TV shop.
>Special Store
The local exploration guild is constantly sending teams to explore, and are at times underfunded and understaffed. You can give them items and send pokemons in your team to explore with them to ensure the success of their exploration, and are rewarded with loot and exp. This can tie in with streetpass.

>>28469998
That's true, I didn't consider that. I just like the idea of having this character that's forced to cooperate with you at the beginning and throughout the game you grow on them then they want to protect you with their life at the end. I'D be the cherished partner and that situation is cute to me, though it is a different kind of cute than what you're looking for.
Super's partner was definitely a hit for me but I don't think the later games should try to do them again. It's nice how unique they are.
>>28470122
the problem with your friends in XY is that the game is too short for them to get development (beside Shauna). I also watched the anime and you get to see their personality in detail.
Trevor is a curious guy who wants to see pokemon in their natural habitat and learn about them. He was the one I disliked the most in the game but I really like him in the anime. He's into pokemon battles his battle style is more mathematical (compared to the battle style of Ash based on intuition). He's the only one of the friend trio (since Calem is not there) to get a mega-evo (even if his charizard-Y is defeated by Alain's charizard-X)
Tierno likes to dance and incorporate that into his battle style. It didnt really made sense in the games but in the anime you see him in action. He's there to have fun before anything else and really bond with his pokemon. He's really similar to Ash and was Ash's first rival in Kalos.
Shauna is the biggest surprise. I didnt like her at all in the games but in the anime she's simply amazing. In the game she has that artsy feel where she shows you the PR video. Since there is contests in the anime you get to see her go ham. She's one of Serena's contest rivals and she's really top tier.

I think it would have worked much better if the player character wasn't a player stand-in and was its own character. By giving him more character than the previous PCs, they kind of remove the whole 'it can be anyone/self-insert' thing, but it's still not enough to really be a convincing character in its own right. Kind of got the worst of both worlds, not to mention he/she had almost zero impact in the plot in spite of having the most screen time.
It's particularly jarring if the PC does of feels something really different from the player themselves, such as telling the partner they're annoying when the player didn't feel that themselves, or getting a bit too attached to the partner in the later stages when the player found the partner annoying from start to finish.
>>28475117
>almost zero impact on the plot
I mean, even if you ignore the scarves' functional purpose needing the MC to happen, giving the partner the courage they needed to do stuff was pretty important. The bond they shared was a pretty big deal.
I didn't have a problem with player agency since I connected with the MC 99% of the time anyway, the "you're annoying" thing being the only hangup but what was said had to be said for plot purposes. The feeling I get when the main character of a game says exactly what you want them to is great and Super gave me that tenfold. Sure, it's the "worst of both worlds" on paper but when you're able to enjoy it I feel it's better than either alternative. I can still pretend it's me and everything I want to say is being said and it's actually meaningful dialogue.
For everyone else's sakes I wouldn't mind going back though. It just felt like Super was made for me. I don't think they'd be able to do it again anyway.

>>28499586
If you can pirate it or find it cheap get Gates, otherwise yeah just skip it.
>>28499586
Yes
Gates has a great story but it's kind of a pain to go through because of its gameplay
Super is basically a "finished" Gates to everyone. The story is mixed depending on who you ask, but the gameplay is vastly superior to Gates
>>28499586
Depends how much stock you put in the story. It's got the best in the series, and the whole pokemon franchise for that matter.
Gameplay isn't as bad as people make out, but the post-game is barren as fuck, so don't expect to get any real mileage out of it once you beat the story.
>>28499586
>better critic reviews in general
Why the fuck do you actually pay attention to that.
If you don't care about the gameplay, you'll be fine with GtI (in that case you may as well just watch videos though), but otherwise, it has a lot of flaws
Super is great
Most reviewers have no idea what they're talking about and don't play the games past the beginning. Also reviews are meant for normalfags which explains why they're shit.
>>28499586
>PMD
>critics
All PMDs are rolled over by critics everywhere. If you like one you'll likely like the other. Don't fall for this meme.
And like other anons said, it depends on how you value the story in PMDs. Gates has one of the best written stories so far, with amazing characters, but a pretty lacking gameplay (but if anything it's where PMDs actually started having good controls).
It's hard to justify buying it, but if you got CFW do play it. I bet Citra will be able to emulate it soon too. The story makes it worth it.

I've been hitting Pokemon for 1300in Western Caveas Azurill in Rescue Team.
You can get to 5 digit numbers if you prepare everything.Rescue Team caps damage at 32767 since it's stored as a signed 16-bit integer. Not sure what's the cap in Explorers; IIRC getting over 32767 in Explorers overflows the mininumber into healing (but not the actual damage so it still kills) and without glitch moves/cheating/whatever you can get damage only so high.
Wow, six pictures. Brace for /vp/ to flood itself to death again.

>>28518166

Only Explorers and Adventure Squad allows you to learn egg moves. Explorers has you hatch Eggs, Adventure Squad allows you to learn an Egg Move as a level-up move with the exclusive Pokemon Tower mechanic.
>>28514636

No, several bosses have over 1k HP. This makes multi-hit moves even better in comparison to normal moves than usual, provided you're so buffed you're hitting 999 regularly, which I find isn't the case in Super.
I only ever hit 999 on my games with Chespin/Mega Ampharos/Buizel with crits and a good set of emeras backing me up.
Rollout can/will oneshot postgame bosses since it gets more powerful with each hit, hits 5 times, will always hit 5 times provided it has enough accuracy. This is as opposed to other multihit moves which have their number of hits decided by RNG but can keep hitting even after one of the hits misses.
This is why Chespin is so good at oneshotting or at least utterly destroying postgame bosses.

Been screwing around with movesets recently.
Round becomes twice as powerful if a teammate uses the move before you. If you boost your stats enough, you could easily cap damage with that move. I used Jigglypuff since it's even easier if the mon that uses it second is a Normal type, due to STAB.
If I just want to cap damage normally, I usually bring along a Helping Hand party member, like Azurill.
You can use Power drinks to cap the strength of certain moves quicker, too. Some moves have lower strength caps than others. A capped Ice Fang is almost twice as strong as a capped Blizzard, but it only targets one opponent.
