I haven't done a lot of tournaments since I started playing exactly a year ago since the trophies don't count for official points for online tournaments or like that, I try at least to get at least bronze because of muh tradeable packs.

Very. Didn't play much in HGSS format (mostly because that rotated out with Cynthia's Feelings) But in BW we had Tropical Beach as a 200-300 dollar staple in some decks. Then obviously Shaymin EX came back for XY.

They print out the three decks that won Worlds and a fourth random popular deck to round it off every year. You can use these to get a glimpse of what builds were good, or at least what engines were used.

Despite the memes and Shaymin comparison, most decks only ran 1-2 Uxie. However, there were many other support Pokemon used alongside it, such as Claydol, Azelf, Chatot, Castform, and so on, meaning there was much less room for Uxie.

And Uxie wasn't that important for the same reason why decks back then regularly ran 20+ Pokemon; their Supporter lineup didn't rely on blind drawing as much as it did just directly searching for cards via things like Bebe's Search, Pokemon Collector, Celio's Network, Roseanne's Research, and so on. With so many consistency options, Set Up is nice but not so wildly mandatory like Shaymin is today.

It was used until it rotated, but in the years after people mainly used 1-2 Cleffa, Magnezone Prime, and not much else. You had Pokemon Communication, Prof Oak's New Theory, Collector, Copycat, and Pokegear as your Trainer lineup. The 2011 meta was one of the slowest in the game's history, until Juniper got printed. Then we got Colress and N and Computer Search and Ultra Ball and you know the rest.

Because its energy efficient and can 1HKO easily when paired with Magma Camerupt and Volcanion-EX

With FFB you have 210 HP, with 3 Energies you do 120 damage and with 2 Volcanions you increase it to 180, enough to 1HKO exs.

All this can be done turn 2, which is really fast and the deck doesnt fall off as the game goes on but only increases in power.

110 for three energies isn't efficient.
FFB and Volcanion EX aren't unique to Flareon. Just because Flareon is (debatably) an acceptable target for both doesn't make it good.
It can't really be done turn two unless you open perfectly. Really, think about what you're suggesting: you're saying having two Fire Energy in hand, Flareon in the active, an evolved Camerupt on the bench, and then a third Fire in the discard by turn two is "really fast". And that's before the FFB, Volcanions, extra Fire energies, etc.
Sure, eventually you have this elaborate setup that can stream one (1) extra energy onto a below-curve Flareon each turn, but by then, an actually tiered deck will have won already.
It might have been acceptable with Blacksmith and Compressor, but it really isn't now.

There aren't really any "budget" decks this format like last. You can try your luck with Greninja if it's even still on the tier list, but you probably won't get far.

If you're not going to build something that's on the tier list, then there's no point in making suggestions. Just build whatever looks interesting, since Tier 4- is a crapshoot as it is. You'll still win if you're competent.

RS is worth 1 when dealing with higher value cards.

When dealing with lower value cards its considered 1.5 but even then you are buying at a loss.

Two examples of this:

A)
Shaymin-EX RA:
22 RS or 44 SS
The RS value is twice as much as a SS pack in this case.

B)
Scizor EX:
2 RS or 3 SS
The RS value is 1.5 times the value of the SS pack.

In case A you are using the full potential of the RS pack value thus its reasonable to use it over other packs.

In case B you are not using the full potential of the RS pack and are better off using regular packs like SS to buy more comon cards.


Unless you are buying shit like Shaymin, FA Darkrai, FA N, FA Mewtwo and Mega Mewtwo, FA Giratina, FA Hoopa, etc etc you are better off using SS over RS packs.

I made a Primal Groudon deck myself but I'm still figuring it out, I 'd like to get some ideas from other decks.

Is Puzzles of Time some meme recommended item or some shit? Or is it just the "theorycraft" item that everyone thinks is good on paper?

I swear tons of deck recommend stuffing fucking 4 of those into your deck and I always feel like I actually don't need them. They slow down my decks, they're unreliable, and almost in every case I'd rather have shit like Sycamore/N in my hand early on when it matters the most.

That's how Primal Groudon operates, set a Groudon up while you have a Carbink/ Wobbuffet in the active. It's a slow, but a pretty good deck, it's super good in Expanded with Tropical Beaches.
Steve is my ghetto Korrina backup since she rotated.
Professors letter is a must to get up to 4 energies on the Groudon. Also good with Scorched Earth.
Skyla is a all-star, deck is a toolbox, Skyla finds the right tool for the turn/ the next turn.
Assault Vest on Groudon, good luck OHKOing that.

Between your 2-4 Shaymin and 4 Ultra Ball, Trainers' Mail, Skyla, and (last format) deck thinning/setup via Compressors, getting 2+ Puzzles in hand is very easy.

Regice is the real MVP. It's a fun deck. Probably one of the most interactive in the game. If you can identify what your opponent is playing T1 or T2 and adjust accordingly (easy to do with basic meta knowledge), then you can have the correct Pokemon out and have the lockdown started T2.

Pokemon Ranger hurts a bit, but Ninja Boy also adds a lot to the deck.

Imo, Yanmega Break might be the worst matchup because it's immune to the lock, though Jolteon OHKO's it and their Shaymins, so it's not an auto-loss with careful play and good Lysandres.

Magearna makes you immune to effects like Scizors where he can discard your DCE and you wont be able to attack next turn due to energy cost.
Shaymin-EX heasl 20 to all bench pokemon, add 30 of rough seas and all your pokemon get healed 50 every turn.

Rainbow Energy lets your pokemon have Manaphy and Magearna benefits at the same time, it also allows Magearna to be able to attack for a solid 130 with FFB, damage your deck lacks.

Nah, it's Scizor.
Scizor gets set up in 1-2 turns depending on how lucky they are with draws and once they're mega they can just OHKO literally your whole deck. You also can't do anything more than 3HKO their megas so they can stall out for hammers or ranger. Also if the game goes on too late they usually have a Cobalion to 2HKO or OHKO your whole deck.

I actually love fighting your deck with Scizor, as soon as I see the regice then I just wait for the draws.

You could build Greninja under 150. The only expensive card is the BREAK which I think is like $15-$18. It does not require Shaymin. But the deck loses hard to Garbodor decks.

After that 150 will be you 2 Shaymin and not much else so you'll need to spend more money to get the EX's you'll need for your deck.

Nothing important has changed. It's still 3 arbitrary attackers, that share no synergy with each other, a bunch of random trainers, one of which isn't even Standard legal anymore (but hey at least you took out the banned card, good work), and an umbrella of random energy at random ratios (1 DCE? 1 Rainbow?)

If you want to build a Ho-oh EX you're going to need better energy acceleration than Max Elixir. I used M Manectric EX last format and it worked out pretty well, most of the time. M Manectric/Ho-oh also didn't do too bad at States.

I'd get rid of Pokemon Center Lady since you already have healing. Fighting Fury Belt buffs Ho-Oh's HP so it doesn't just get OHKO'd. Professor's Letter can get the specific energies you need into your hand. Winona can search you a combination of Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Smeargle in one card.
If you're gonna play Delinquent, you want to play it with a stadium so it's not dead in matchups that don't run a stadium. Toss in a Parallel City or a Faded Town to give you a better matchup against certain decks.

Hey friends, I was wondering if I could get some pointers to help finish up a pet project of mine I'm really excited about. After playing a decent chunk of the Pokemon TCG Online, I decided I wanted to get into the physical TCG. To celebrate my new hobby, I started working on a Full Art/Holofoil Volcanion EX deck. You've probably seen me post this ~1-2 times before in the generals, so sorry if it's getting old. I'll avoid posting further about it.

There's a few things I needed help with, if anybody was willing to add their two cents.

Start with the staples seen in op. Birch, Shauna, steven, and Teino are ass.

Articuno 16 is the one with find ice. Not particularly useful in a greninja break deck. You have professor's letter is arguable better than using find ice for three energy then ending your turn. Articuno 17 is the one with the ancient trait, takes three turns to charge and has has a retreat of 2 so again not particularly useful. I would take these pokemon out if you get some better cards.If you can't take them out then add some float stones.

Get greninja break if you can.

He works best in decks that don't need abilities (obviously) after the initial set-up rush. That said, he's in Darkrai/Tina a lot, and I've played some idiots with my Mega deck that turn off their own Tina protection. So just be aware of that.

The second thing I've seen people screw up on, is putting him in decks where you wouldn't already have float stone. Like there's no point putting him in a Raichu/Vespi combo where now you have to add 2 stones that you weren't using anyway. Put him in a deck that has two stones already, and add a third stone along with your 2-2 line rather than fucking shit up. Put him where it makes sense to put him.

Oh shit time to do my second IRL booster opening, did first one about a week ago (12xSS (Elite trainer box) and 4 Breakpoints and got only 1 EX) here as well and had fairly bad luck, this time I got:

In one month you can get around 4800 Tokens and 100 tickets.

With the tokens you can get 24 Roaring Skies packs from the store and its likely you will ge AT LEAST 1 Shaymin.

With the Tokens you can enter 25 theme tournaments and if you play with XY Basic Blue you will end up with around 40 packs if you dont fuck up.

Thats enoguh to make any tier 1 deck you want.

I ran 3-3 for a while, with 3 Geomancy Xerneas. Pushed it up to 4-4 with the same amount of Xerneas. 2-2 for Octillery which I'll drop when I get Shaymin, I guess. That's for Despair Ray Xerneas. I haven't put Klefki in there simply because I figured I could do with less Pokemon.
I also had 3-3 Brilliant Arrow, 3 Geomancy Xerneas, and 2 Xerneas BREAK. It hit hard, and usually pretty quickly, but you lose a card and the energy attached to it, you lose a decent chunk of power, and it can very easily turn against you.

I do have a Florges/Despair Ray Gardevoir deck that works surprisingly well. 1 energy for Despair Ray, and if I can get both Florges out (I normally do), 1 energy to confuse and damage. Doesn't really elevate it much, but it's still fun.

Former MTG pro here, this game is soft as hell and immensely easier. I don't particularly care about pokemon but the TCG is great. There's arguably more room for deck creation/innovation and good play is generally rewarded over playing the better net deck (unlike MTG).

Because it's in every deck, and so it's getting a lot of sales. the more a card sells, the more it will cost.

It's not that good, really, You just draw a couple of extra cards that you could've drawn with one of a billion trainers and placing it in your bench is just asking for a lysandre followed by a OHKO and free prizes for your opponent.

Really, it's a good card that's being overestimated by the people netdecking.

Pretty much on point, although I do disagree with the prospect of Vespiquen in the new format. No Muscle Band, everyone's running Parallel City, Unown and Klefki will die to Garbodor if not resolved quickly, and no, I don't believe Ultra Ball and Sycamore are adequate Compressor replacements. And to boot, nothing in this format is weak to Grass.

I think there's plenty to be debated about the other decks as well. Is Xerneas BREAK not being an EX worth the trade off over Darkrai EX having access to Fighting Fury Belt? Is Mega Scizor going to be lower than M Mewtwo? Is it even worth it to play PRC M Garde when Xerneas BREAK is arguably better?

Lots of questions this format. But I think all of the decks listed are great places to start for regionals testing. And ultimately we won't know for certain what the tiers will shake out to be until we get some real results.

Vespiquen is pretty good. I played a dozen games with it today and only lost three. The first two losses were my first two games, both of which I misplayed heavily in. You don't really need to hit the super high damage numbers right off the bat. You almost always can hit 110 on turn 2/3, which is good enough to lysandre a shaymin. If that's not in the cards, sky returning with a shaymin of your own will usually put anything in KO range. It's certainly not as fast or as strong as it was previously, but it doesn't need to be.

This is it right now. I had Raichu in it earlier. The secondary attacker isn't too important. It depends a lot on what you're seeing. A lot of people were limiting me to 3 pokemon with parallel city for reasons I couldn't explain, so I subbed it out for Zoroark.

I think it's basically only good due to the meta right now. Weak to uncommon steel type, psychic type hits Mewtwo for OHKO so it can't damage change, Fairy type hits Giratina once you turn abilities off, 110 OHKOs Vespiquen, and Rayquaza seems like an even matchup since you can run parallel city all day. Most of that for only [F] [C] and maybe 1 tribute(of a shaymin so they can't snipe it)

It's good in theory for being what Manectric was last format(cheap 110 attack that happens to hit the meta hard), minus the energy acceleration.
