The operation to take down Commander Erika was successful. After we infiltrated her base via the underground tunnels it allowed us to take out their AA turrets unseen. With the turrets down Ace and Boomer were able to level their base with a well coordinated air raid.

After a successful mission like that the troop deserves some leave. I hear there's a casino here in Celadon City.

What the the rules on fishing, gents? I assume if you had already encountered a wild pokemon on a route where you could fish, then catching anything that way is a no go. In towns where you wouldn't have any wild encounters, I assume you could fish up one pokemon.

I'm starting my first nuzlocke run in Blue, for reference. I just wanted to square all the rules away before I begin.

So after backtracking to the other side of Union Cave and doing an absurd amount of grinding on Route 32, I finally got Thomas up to speed with the team. Heading into Ilex however, my encounter catch was a Roselia, so I am now faced with a dilemma.

I doubt there's more than one Shiny Stone to before really late in the game, so who should get it?

In the Game Corner we were attacked by Rocket Forces and before we knew what hit us Commander Giovanni's Kangaskhan took out Private Raticate with a crit Bite.

After a while of smooth sailing we all let our guards down. Private paid the ultimate price, but the rest of us have to carry the burden. He deserves a proper burial at Levender Tower.

I was way more underleveled than I thought I would be, and his ace having Assist made it almost impossible to totally deal with. DOA actually managed to fucking stall it to death while drifting in and out of sleep after it ran out of DoubleSlap PP, forcing it to eventually Struggle.

I started an Emerald Nuzlocke a few days ago and wanted to Berrylocke it and only use berries to heal, but my cartridge's battery's drained and now berries cannot grow :^/
Postponing that one to do a Plat Berrylocke and returning to it as a regular run some other time.

Well, After hours of fiddling with OBS and looking for ways to record .webm directly ended fruitless I decided to continue and grind my team a little (Very slow xp gains) and then take on the Gym. Trayvon proved very useful considering the type advantage, I later captured Tatsumaki the Ralts at the dreamyard. So far my team is Trayvon and his bitches.

I also got a cut slave but I may just teach that to noodle since it's grass type, I'll just ponder it for now

Not much to say about this update... other than it would have had to wait until tomorrow if I hadn't decided to just speed up through training Hachiko and the rest of my mons.

were used against Erika. Nightwing won the match all by himself, I knew it was the best Pokémon to use against Erika, and he delivered, so he is now a permanent team member, alongside Hachiko (who obliterated the entirety of the gym's trainers).

Well, that was rather anticlimactic. It seemed like all of her Pokémon had coverage option for days but lacked the stats to back them up. Her Lickitung's Power Whip was only able to deal about 1/4 of Luca's HP in particular. Even her signature Miltank went down without much of a fight, it just kep using body slam repeatedly. No Rollout, No Milk Drink, even while it was clearly in the red, nothing.

So that's my first no casualties badge this tun, but Morty's next. Hopefully I can get something to deal with him, Zach unfortunately has a speed reducing nature so I can't rely on him as much as I'd like to.

Depends largely on your rules, but most importantly, on the hack you play.

Case in point: Fire Red is fairly easy if you have a type advantage, but Fire Red Omega is difficult even when you overlevel a 4 our 5 levels, AND have a type advantage.

Moreover, whether you use healing items or not can make a huge difference. I would have lost many mons in FRO if I hadn't used Super Potions aplenty.

Oh, not at all. It's just a lot of anons prefer playing hacks that increase difficulty and Pokémon availability.

Personally I'm playing vanilla Fire Red at the moment (I tried to play the original, but the sprites shaking as I move was too annoying for me to deal with).

Some tips I can give you:

- Train your Pokémon. Really important to keep them competitive.
- Play it safe, in every sense of the word: if you have a Charmander and are facing a Geodude, asume it knows a Rock-type attack. Asume his next attack will be a Critical Hit. Asume it will destroy you. And so, switch to a Pokémon better prepared to deal with that worst-case scenario (unless you don't have any). I lost a Diglett to a Charmeleon because I thought it could one hit it with Magnitude. Magnitude 6 landed, left it on the reds, and the fucker killed Diglett with Ember. Never again.

Of course, these two rules will barely help you at all when playing a hack, because God fucking knows what you will come up against. But playing a vanilla Pokémon game, especially Gen 1 Blue, you should be safe.

Gym 3 finished up, and we have our first death. My poor Sneakysnek sneaked his last sneak, and died at the hands of one of the Castelia City dancers.

After that, I went to the gym and steamrolled everything with Pricky. Moving on to the desert to probably lose all my pokemon.

I had a lot of close calls throughout the fight. Ended up not being able to use the secret weapon. I had been hoping to use Thomas as Hypnosis bait and use Yawn to turn the tables. Turns out Morty's Gengar knows Thunderbolt. Although he barely survived and got the Yawn off, a change in strategy was required.

Long story shot I barely mad it with all folks alive to his Misdreavus, his last Pokémon, only for Marcus to go down to a crit. Still, It could have been a hell of a lot worse. Should I replace him from the box or do I have better options on upcoming routes anons?

On route 3 I then proceeded to catch Clara the Shello (East) I hope she doesn't end up with a tragic ending like Shelly, my previous Shellos in Storm Silver (Fucking crit seedbomb from an Arbok) and then I had to stop team plasma from being dicks in Wellspring cave and I caught Rayleigh the Aron. I'm finally in Nacrene city now and tomorrow I'll get the badge.

Unrelated note: I wonder why gen 5 feels so slow, While playing storm silver I only sped up grind and the game felt great at normal speed, but normal speed in and out of combat feels like Gen 4's combat while only at 4x speed. I'll probably do a fun run of the gen 5 games on my phone after this nuzlocke run to assess it better and have a better opinion of it in the future.

Holy shit, I actually beat Fantina. Tantrum the Gabite easily handled her Duskull, and though I hoped Silver the Bronzor would confuse her Mismagius, hers hit first, he hit himself, then died to a crit shadow ball. He will be dearly missed, he saved me from Jupiter's Skuntank. Back to Tantrum, switched to Benedict the Togepi(Resisted the predicted Shadow ball) Survived to get a Yawn off, once it fell asleep I switched to Tantrum again to kill it. Smashley the Cranidos barely survived two Shadow Claws from Haunter but killed it with a crit Pursuit.

I may have lost one, but it could have been far worse, judging from previous runs.

Emerald is easy-mode up until after Lavaridge. The early game is cake if you chose Mudkip, and only slightly harder after Brawly if you chose Treecko since you need something great against Wattson. I always seem to pick up Beautifly when I play through a Hoenn game, and it helps me easily take down Brawly's Gym.

Are you choosing KFC as your starter, anon? Rotisserie only gets good around Wattson, and isn't much of a help against Flannery. I can only suggest picking the chicken up if you're thinking ahead for Norman.

The only special use Rare Candies have in my run is being able to push something above the grind limit for each gym/rival fight. I could use one to go to 16 before Falkner or 22 before Bugsy and so on.
I don't use them on anything that naturally breached the grind limit before even reaching the gym.
Because of this, I do prefer to save them a little. Not a huge deal either way though.

Just to give you advice as someone who has used Shedinja in a playthrough (not Nuzlocke):

It's not viable. Sooner or later you're going to run into something that surprises you and all it takes is one wrong move to kill the Shedinja. You'd be surprised how many pokemon are sitting on one spare dark/flying/rock move. It doesn't have to be strong, it can be gust and you're dead.

Going to victory road now. The last time I nuzlocked Kanto I lost to the Champio battle. HOpe this turns out differently.

Well that was a short lived attempt at Volt White, Didn't even make it past the second gym. I Never really played gen 5 so I think i'll have to do a fun run of it to see if i truly can appreciate it, I liked Storm Silver alot more.

I'm doing my first ever Nuzlocke on Y and just lost everyone but my starter to the Machoke/Mr. Mime duo in front of Glittering Cave. It hurts senpai.

Not using items is not one of the nuzlocke rules. It's an entirely optional and arbitrary rule that was added later by a few random people.
You can start a poll in this thread if you'd like, to see how many people actually use that optional rule.

If you run with all of the basic nuzlocke rules, you are by definition doing a 100% legit nuzlocke.

First thing I did was go on ahead and grab my captures for the next few routes. Here's the state of my team when it comes to usable newbies.
My best bet is either Chimchar or Turtwig.
I feel like Chimchar will be immediately useful, helping me smash through the normal gym. However I highly value immunities and bulk. Especially electric immunity when I have a Gyarados.

Anyone got ideas that might sway me either way?

Having to choose between sacrificing a starter and a team mascot sucks ass. Triple battles are fucking bullshit. Especially if one opponent is a double team spammer and the other is "so OP they had to nerf him with bullshit ability, which don't help with him at all when the battle starts" Archeops.

Didn't want to waste time for his bullshit. Lapras and either Ice Beam or Surf, whichever worked better. Got lucky that Archen missed first Rock Slide tho. Got pissed with Mantyke's constant bounce/aqua ring/potion bullshit, so switched to Mewtwo and one-hit it.

The bad thing is I now have 7 badges, 4 viable pokemon and maybe 2 locations before badge #8. I've caught Shaymin as an encounter on route 14, but frankly, that one legendary I have is already more than enough of an easy mode. The fact that I fucked up last 4 encounters (including pressing "run" instead of "bag" twice) doesn't help.

So I cant seem to find a conclusion to my answer on what is "BSplat" In the OP links I see bloodyplat, is that the same thing? I'm under the notion that the "BS" Stands for bull shit. I'm thinking of either doing a plat or some form of gen 3 nuzlocke so if someone doesnt mind informing me what BSplat is that'd be great. I feel as if when I know what the romhack is i can make a decision for my next locke

I lost Starfire the Meganium to Froslass. She only took 25% with her yache and light screened, then got back to 75% with synthesis after the second blizzard. She was going to go for a quick giga drain to make sure Terra had a sure KO but got crit blasted (also none of those blizzards missed even though hail was off the field).
Losing my starter - and after losing Beast Boy right before - is really upsetting. Those two have been with me this entire run, and they've been consistently incredible the whole game.

I don't think I'm going to use Swablu or Raticate, but they're fillers until I get new catches. That's all for today though, I need a break after that battle.

In that case, I believe it's a modified version of a hack called Flawless Platinum.
You can grab the documentation for it from a quick google search, but BS Plat Intense has been made a bit harder. Sadly, as far as I know, there are no documents accurate for BS Plat Intense. Flawless Plat is the base for it though, so that's the closest you'll get.

I think I've been using no dupes clause wrong this whole time. A lot of people act like it's an easy mode, I always thought it meant that you forfeit your route capture if you run into the same thing as another route. ie yer fucked.

The idea is that you really feel it when you lose a mon, and being able to replace it with the exact same mon kinda defeats that. I personally don't allow myself to obtain a mon of the same evolution line more than once, so for example, if I find an Aron early in the game but then allow it to die, then tough luck, even if I get a Lairon first encounter later, I can't catch it and therefore can't replace that Aron.

It all comes down to a preference of staying true to the idea of beating the game with shitty rodents and birds or staying true to the idea of every fainted mon being an irreplaceable loss. I can understand why you'd do the former, but the latter is perfectly legit, especially when the encounter pool in the game you're playing is high enough that you can't easily force yourself into situations where only one particular encounter is left on a route.

every time a nodupesfag (sorry couldn't think of another word, nodupesguys? sounds weird) says that it baffles me. you're not forced to capture anything. if you don't want to have four rattatas on your team, hell, just don't. i know i skip most of the repeats in my playthroughs unless is something useful like pickup zigzagoon because i play with no items/no buying from markets and pickup REALLY helps with some status healing necessities.

if anything it makes me love my mons even more because instead of having a full team that i need to grind before gin2, i only keep two or three most and the rest were repeats i didnt wanted.

I've had simultaneously horrible and remarkably good luck in this one. Playing it blind and made it through 7 gyms, albeit with some terrible losses. Mostly made it this far thanks to Honchkrow crits, VERY careful leveling of a Slowpoke Well Swinub who is now a proud Mamoswine, and a Kingler who's been with me since Cherrygrove with amazing coverage. My special attackers are somewhat lacking. Venomoth is pretty much it right now. Dragonair was my Surf and Flamethrower guy since Quilava kicked it, and now she's dead. Hoping to at least make it to the E4.
