After the Team Flare incident, Satoshi and Alan are hired by Professor Sycamore to research z moves through the summer in the Alola region. After a night of heavy battles, Alan makes a pass at Satoshi, who is initially hesitant but eventually responds to Alan's advances. Though he informs Satoshi that it was a one-time incident, they develop a sexual and emotional relationship. Shortly after discovering their summer together is being cut short, they have a briefly last battle out of rage and sadness.
