Vulpix+Meowth anon from the last thread. Finished up the guild's expedition, and I'm up to the part where I meet Dusknoir. Meowth's not too great, but the Budew from Apple Woods has really helped a lot, plus she's adorable.
The plot doesn't seem too crazy right now, besides Time Gears and all that. Haven't played any Special Episodes yet. Should I just go through them all as they come, or save them for later? Any shitty ones I should skip, or are they all worthwhile?

Seriously why do these games not get a remaster or something (apart from sky)? These games are fucking awesome with a great fanbase, Chunsoft should remake RT and EOT/D/S because who wouldn't buy the shit out of that?

I get the point you're trying to make, but considering it lacks any of the good features (big and small) that Gates actually had in regards to its gameplay (base customizing as a concept, those weird money/type-specific barrier doors, etc etc), it's hard to really feel that way. If anything Super just feels like Skyward Sword in that it makes a bunch of drastic changes that are either loved or hated and only a few new additions are actually universally liked, and the debates about it just ended up getting exhausting, just like all this Super stuff.

Mash A, then after they say their standard quote use a Quarter Wand on them to say their dying/critical condition quote. There's no half health quote like in RT, if they're above half health they just say their standard quote, below is their dying quote. Escape Orbs are used if a mon is on break, since I'm going by dex order.

Kind of neat how the protagonist has a quote that's more than just "...", since it also parallels the partner's quote.

It'd be pretty cool for PMD to borrow some things from FE. Part of why I liked the games was because it was a good yet simple strategy game that also had some nice characters, too, like Nino, Jaffar and Inigo. None of the extras felt worthless there, whereas in PMD everyone that wasn't the main duo (the Robin and Chrom, if you want to make the comparison) felt disposable and only existed to be a deployed if you're having trouble. Having recruits with an actual personality, and using FE's pairup system with them getting stronger would be a nice way to give the extra characters some worth.
Love confessions for everyone might be stretching it a bit, though, and I say this as someone who posts PlayerXPartner all the time.

For me, it's less about the tasteless dating unless it's at the very end where it kind of makes sense and more about giving everyone else some actual worth. In RT and Explorers, all your recruits don't matter at all, in RT only having three in-dungeon quotes and nothing else, and Explorers plucking from a basic personality tree, with neither of the games' recruits ever doing or saying anything to give them some worth. Compare that to FE6, where units like Lugh, Ray and Chad, three completely generic recruits, all have an actual personality and are able to converse with each other, giving them a bit of a backstory or an actual sense of personality.
Sacred Stones was my favorite, so don't give me that "it's only for the waifus" crap

Well, that is a less shit point and not completly waifufaggotry. The thing is, we have 721 pokemon and few more coming, not to mention that before Super, you could have any number of repeated recurits from any specie. I am more than happy to have a bunch of lines (Full HP, 50% HP, 25% HP, 5% HP, LV UP and one per status condition, Mega/Awakened). FE has waaaaay less units than pokemon so it is easier to write them as actual characters and not as one liner. They could do some extra characterization for Important NPCs + Legendaries though.

Different anon, but I'm kinda the opposite. I'm used to filling in personalities with my imagination, since I do it all the time with my mainline teams, so picking up a couple recruits and giving them some personality is pretty easy for me. By comparison, FE's writing always feels... stilted? They have the supports, of course, but the way everything's presented makes it harder to get invested in the characters. Stilted's just the word that comes to mind for it.

Speaking as one of those people who pretty much loves Explorers to pieces... no, actually, I don't at least. I love Explorers, but just trying to repeat the formula like that isn't going to get them anywhere. It just ends up running the series' stories into a rut and potentially opens them up to other problems, plotholes, and etc etc etc. It makes it too easy for the writing to get lazy, which is probably kinda cynical, but whatever.

I've mentioned this every so often, but a long while ago someone gave a suggestion about basing a PMD story off of the idea of a detective agency that goes into dungeons and solves problems around town (or something to that effect), and that seems like an absolutely charming idea that I'd love to get behind.

Most mons are unusable until the postgame. It's pretty shitty, but there's not much you can do about it unless you want to mod your starters into your favorite mons.

From what I understand, once upon a time there was a Pokemon fanartist called PurpleKecleon. She was somewhat popular, I believe. She made a lot of PMD art and ran a Deviantart group dedicated to PMD.

But then... something happened. I'm not sure what went down exactly, but she ended up disbanding the Deviantart group and deleting all her Pokemon art. She also became a hardcore SJW.

I hate that people aren't able to appreciate the first part of Super. Can't they just relax? You can't have the game start off edgy, epic and touching. Also, why don't they complain about the Guild in Explorers as well? Is it just because of the "being a kid" part? I personally think it's great, particularly with the reveal later on.
I also like the second part of the game, and I don't think it feels faster than the first one, it's just that it has way more stuff going on.

I've mentioned this before, but it's more because the first half of Super doesn't have any really visible connections with the rest of the story. Sure, there's some very mild foreshadowing with Nuzleaf's trips, and the partner's acceptance of the Litwick mirrors the acceptance of DM later, but those are both really, really vague, and one of them is more thematic rather than relevant.

I've made this comparison before, but compare the Dimensional Scream and the Harmony Scarves. Both of them are introduced somewhat early on, but the Harmony Scarves are never actually relevant (aside from symbolism) until Entei, which is hours and hours and hours later into the game. By comparison, the Dimensional Scream becomes relevant much earlier by putting it in a mundane situation, which introduces some mystery about the player's identity, and the Scream is used repeatedly through the early game to get you familiarized with it.

For example... the best way I'd put it is that if Super had the Harmony Scarves suddenly evolve you during the boss battles during the first half of the game, and it was kept as you and the partner's secret power (maybe even providing extra motivation to find out where the Scarves and partner came from?), that'd at least give the earlygame a lot more relevance to you and the partner as characters.

I think I'm close to the final stretch in Sky. I got myself a Wooper and Electrike like the anons suggested, but Wooper was so underleveled by the time I got him that I just benched him. Electrike's pretty good, but he's not cute like Budew and Stun Spore's much better than Thunder Wave.
Got back from the future, and now Grovyle wants Meowth and I to look for a way to get to the Hidden Land. I got into the series some time in Gen III with Sapphire. Wasn't really that good at the game, so a lot of the mons I caught and used throughout the game were earlygame ones. I usually used Zigzagoon and Poochyena. I remember catching two of them because I really liked dogs. One of the two Poochs evolved into Mightyena, which then became my lead mon. Also remembered Jigglypuff from Smash Bros. and also wanted to use one to fight my sister's team, since she also used a cute pink mon and a dog mon (Clefable and Arcanine, I think) so I tried looking for one, and eventually got her after my 6th badge or so.

It wasn't anything too special, but I guess my old favorites kind of stuck with me.
