The focus on Darkness energy is because most Dark M Mewtwo builds run Oblivion Wing Yveltal and Zoroark BREAK. They both need Darkness energy.

Now, there are other ways to build M Mewtwo. Personally, I prefer to run Psychic Energy with four Mega Turbo and Shrine of Memories. Then I can choose between Psychic Infinity or Damage Change, both are great attacks. It doesn't run any of the Photon Wave Mewtwo EX.

Haven't played since breakthrough. How's the meta nowadays? Could I still roll out my Entei/Charizard list?

I don't get how your opponent running his own clock down lets him win. Like my cousin was in an event and he was coming back like to the point where the guy stood no chance, guy was gonna deck out next turn, he had no way of defending himself at this point, then the match just ended at 5 seconds left on his clock and my cousin lost. I assumed it just estimated that his clock would run out before my cousins turn started, but why would you being a slow piece of shit not penalize you?

Meta became focused on Night March and Night March counters, the latter of which includes item lock decks like Toad and Trevenant and splash damage decks like Greninja and the world champion's M Audino deck.

Charizard EX/Entei died out when Greninja became dominant. Blacksmith is rotated out of Standard so the deck won't come back anytime soon.

You really should open Plasma Freeze if you want to gamble, though. It really has some of the most valuable cards.

Just narrow this decks focus. Pick a Mega and use that one only. If you pick Brilliant Arrow, run Xerneas BREAK and load up your Fairy energy as much as possible. Don't need more than one Hoopa either. If you decide to focus on Despair Ray, don't use Xerneas at all and rely strictly on powering up your Gardevoirs with Elixer and Megas with Mega Turbo. Add an extra Hoopa for bench ammunition.

It's built with Slowking/Lysandre in mind, with Glaceon and Mega Gyarados as the main attackers. Cloyster was thrown in because it's easy to get started, and para.

I built this with a relatively vague understanding of the content in the OP. Don't have Shaymin yet, but working towards it.

Pokemon's been using a rotation system just like Magic's since Gen I. As new packs are introduced, old packs get rotated out.

You can't "patch" or constantly balance a physical card game, so a rotation is one way to keep a game balanced. Other card games like Yugioh or Duel Masters use a banlist instead. There are some other systems in place for other card games, but a rotation is the most popular.

There are pros and cons to either system, but the main advantage to a rotation is that meta- or balance-defining cards eventually get rotated out, allowing for a fresh slate from a design point of view, and allowing the meta to stay fresh from a player point of view.

September 1st, every year. Normally the 3-5 oldest packs get rotated. This means any deck has a shelf life of 2-3 years.
Sometimes decks get reprinted. Yveltal and Yveltal EX, for example, were printed in XY two years ago, but they just got a reprint, meaning they won't rotate out until 2018 at the soonest.
There's also Expanded format, where you're allowed to use older cards. Expanded right now is BW-on, meaning a deck you bought six years ago is still legal there.

Okay some tips then. Focus on one thing. If it's regular Gyarados then there's an old meme deck where you can use Team Magma Base to put two counters on each, and maximise the damage. You'll need to protect your bench from snipes somehow too. FC Bronzong or something. You can even use Archie's Ace to get a Gyarados in active, and four Magikarp on the bench. It's pure meme though.

Gyarados-EX is a better bet for a main attacker, but it's not exactly S-Tier either. In which case dump the all the non-EX cards, they're not helping. Maybe Slowking can help delay while Gyarados builds costs but by the time you add in all the below, space will be tight. Octillery is better than Shaymin since you should be running four dive balls anyway. No need for letters, your acceleration is gonna come from either his move, or Palkia-EX, or maybe you wanna play around with a Clawitzer build? Haven't seen anyone do that yet but it could work. Usually Gyarados is seen with Palkia-EX, and possibly Golduck BREAK. Which is a slow card and can't be sped up through Candies like a regular Stage 2 could. Manaphy EX is huge for most water decks for the ability. I guess Glaceon kinda fits.

Something like
3-3 Gyarados (attack)
3 Palkia (acceleration & attack)
2-2 Octillery (draw)
1 Manaphy (retreat)

Or maybe like
2-2 Gyarados (attack)
2-2 Octillery (draw)
2-2-2 Golduck (energy movement - if so, max out Elixir count)
1 Manaphy (retreat)

General tips would be to get 4 VS Seekers for starters. These are in every single deck ever. Most decks have 5-6 balls. You want at least 4 dive plus probably 1-2 Ultra.

Step 3 you need better draw cards, i.e. a 2-2 Octillery line plus why isn't there a Sycamore or N here? Shauna/Tierno are trash. Wally is pointless. F-club is a one-of at most and Lysandre only needs 1-2. A standard supporter line-up would be something like

5 N/Sycamore
2 Lysandre
1 or 2 Hex Maniac
4 Vs Seekers
One-ofs of Deliquent/Ranger/Ninja/FClub depending on your situation.

You're not a million miles away from a Waterbox build so maybe google that term along with Googling Gyarados decks in general. They lose Toad to rotation, but a lot of the other parts still work just no lock.

I have a straight Palkia & Elixir build too, that works well. Along with Regice/Articuno/Archie's Empoleon. It's not what you're started at, and rotation kills it, but pic related might give you some ideas of a water build. Actually it's more of an Archie build so take it with a pinch of salt-water.

M Gyarados isn't in the metagame because it's severely outclassed by other Megas
ALL Gyarados does is do damage, since there's no inherent benefit or interaction the milling
And other Megas that simply do damage include all-star tiered Pokemon like M Ray, M Mewtwo, etc, all of which are more efficient or faster
This is one of the biggest problems with the oversimplification of Pokemon card designs

Before even considering any forms of acceleration, Gyarados is outclassed
Rayquaza deals MORE damage for FEWER energy, on top of having an AT
Rayquaza can consistently OHKO targets. Gyarados only hits for 120 off TWO DCE, or if you decide to fumble with Water energies, you need FIVE of them to actually OHKO the format
And the acceleration options Rayquaza uses, which consists almost exclusively of Mega Turbo, is generic. Gyarados actually has MORE in the form of its own attack (which is obviously slow) and Palkia (which is obviously slow).

And this is just comparing it to Rayquaza. Many other Megas rank above Gyarados. It's an unfortunate side effect when the entire game gets simplified to damage dealing beaters hiding behind a flimsy, irrelevant gimmick. You get an objective hierarchy.

To set up multiple Megas, you're eroding away your own prizes, right out of the gate that's a problem. You could sit on one Mega for as long as you can, sure, but if they have any way of healing the Paralysis or removing your DCE you're down a prize and risk losing two more and your only attacker.

Secondly, I except Garbodor and Zoroark to be big players in the coming meta. These are direct counters to this strategy.

Mega Ampharos is a great card and has a lot of potential but this idea is dumb. I would much rather just spam Mega Turbo or use Magnezone.

There is no "Rainbow Energy" type. It doesn't have a "symbol". No Pokemon specifically requires a Rainbow Energy.
It's just a special energy card with that particular name. They print special energies like every other set.
Rainbow Energy never had anything to do with Colorless. It didn't replace Colorless. Colorless didn't replace it. They're unreleated.

That particular card, alongside many other special energies, get reprinted every now and then. Here's one from a few months ago.

Fairy Tool Box is built around a card called Aromatisse with the Fairy Transfer Ability. Allowing one to move any fairy energy from one pokemon to another one.
So you can add various attackers in a deck so you can always hit for weakness and make the maximum use of Max potion with out discarding the energy.

And while we don't have AZ or Scoop Up anymore we still have Zoroark's Stand In and Pokemon Center Lady. It'd be fine in standard. I've been using M Gardevoir EX and Xerneas Break for a while now, and I've made multiple changes to it trying to make it as effective as possible. I tried shit like Togekiss to get extra energy out early, but that was probably slower.

MGardevoir x2 (the arrow one)

And supporter searches, mainly. Is there any way to make this faster? I'm gonna guess a couple of Shaymin EX will be the best solution, but this deck is essentially all I have, so I can't see myself getting that. Good hand, I'm set up and ready to do some damage by turn 2. Bad hand, I fucking lose the uphill battle. So with the current set up, I'm 14-3, overall 45-18. I can't do anything to MMewtwo, sets up faster and hits harder.
Do I make room for Garb or Octillery? I'd post the full deck if I could. I can remember most of it if anybody wants a list.

The regular mons suck, the trainers suck and the only good ex so far is Dragonite EX.

Not saying the remaining cards cant be good, but judging from what weve seen so far the set will be even worse than Steam Siege meta wise.

Deck looks decent to me though, but I'm not an expert or anything. It might possibly benefit a little bit from Hex Maniac? Since Hoopa and Shaymin are fucked if abilities get blocked before they can do their job.

SS M-Gard will sill be 2 shotting with or without Dragonite EX.

Even with skyfield and full bench M Gard cant one shot megas (except mewtwo due to weakness) and Dragonite EX wont change that.

M-Gard is about 2 shotting and using the effect of the attack to get rid of useless tech mons like Hoopa and Shaymin.

Sure, you get more uses out of pokemon that have effects when they come into play like Absol and Hawlucha, but that wont be enough "break" it as you say.

It will still be tier 3 or 2 at best.

It isn't really unfortunate, the extra speed is nice and keeps people from playing N. I do not long for the days of 4 Juniper 4 N draw engines. Now we can actually play cute tech supporters like Maniac and Ranger and still generate draw power.
