You know another good thing is Serena's Japanese VA isn't famous and isn't a singer like the 4 other girls of the anime. Whereas all the others had acting/singing careers outside the pokemon anime, Serena's VA doesn't really have any other big roles and isn't famous.

The anime staff likely don't have to pay her as much as other professional actress which is why they might consider keeping her around.

It really bugs me that they created Serena and her crush like a huge endgame ship for Ash and then will likely kill it off at the saga's conclusion. I'm more concerned about all the little kids/teens watching the show, they're bound to take Serena leaving far harder than older fans who have been watching for 20 years.

The writers didn't even have to create Serena's crush in the first place and wrote her similar to past companions, but because they did it feels like they wrote themselves into a corner. It almost makes the entire XY arc a bait and switch but the thing is it didn't have to be this way.
