So XYZ 41 is 3 episodes later.

So by XYZ 39, Ash is already hypnotized/knocked out. It'd be odd to not see Serena already worried, but whatever, let's assume there's nothing.

Then there's an entire other episode, XYZ40, where Lysandre "shows strong interest in Ash and Greninja." I mean, there has to be something here. Ash can't possibly be captured for both episodes, and I doubt Serena is doing jackshit. It's only until the next summary in the next episode that she gets the objective to help Manon. But at the absolute worst, ash would at least be saved by the first half of XYZ 41. This still leaves a half episode for Serena to have a new objective other than "muh satoshi" and go help manon since they seemed to bond on a minimum level when manon finally returned.

I mean, it sounds lame, but summaries always leave out the juicy details. None of this really says all that much because who the fuck knows what's gonna happen. But whatever, I only truly expect a standard good-bye ending so the fuck does it matter.

It's actually worse for his development. Ash wining could have completed his initial arc for the seasons, while continuing Alain's arc from a more relatable point. Either a low point he has to overcome as a hero, or a logical turning point to make him a villain.
With the way things are now, he can't really play a villain and if he did at best it would be half-assed because he reluctantly has to fight for Team Flare. At worst it would be confusing as hell and make no sense.
As a hero it's even worse for character development because he's already proven himself the best of the best. There is no tension now if he fights team flare, and if he saves the day then it makes the main protagonist pathetic and ruins all growth Ash built up over the last 2 or so years. If on the other hand Ash saves Alain, we would be confused over why Alain needed Ash's help in the first place. Either way were not going to give a shit because we know the bad guys are going to lose.

It did not help that the way Alain won was probably the worst way possible. There are so many ways the writers could have done this better if they planned to have Ash lose anyways.

That is to say, they look fine until you cut their hair and realize they should've just looked like that from the start.

Serena's long hair looked fucking unkempt as fuck. She needed a rubber band in the back just to keep that shit secure, and her locks honestly did her no favors. It looked messy, and her hat framed it. At least if she removed her hat you could see her smooth head, but her hair looked like it was kept together with dirt all the time unless an animator did his job to save it and make it look fluffy.

And that outfit in the dori is by far her worst look. I'm not a fan of her hipstery trendy one either, but at least it makes better use of her hair. That one is pure ugly girly literal 10-year old garbage. The haircut made her look so much older, that they actually started to rewrite her mannerisms as a result. Now that's a fucking makeover.

On further inspection, it appears that a significant number of TV Tokyo's recent videos have very high dislike ratios. I could not say why, but it's POSSIBLE that it is from backlash to that one Pokemon episode. I just doubt that a single episode of a single TV show would spawn that much backlash.

It really does seem like Alan will be the one to go save Ash, unless Clemont is able to move on to the top of the tower once defeating Xerosic. But I think he'll have to be busy deactivating the weapon.

They've been pushing the moral lesson that victory isn't everything though so being accepting of defeat isn't a surprise. The reactions of the crowd aren't any indication either because their reactions even at the locker room were too restrained for a victory. I mean, you think this was a clue that they intended him to win? For that theory to work, they didn't just change the scene of Ash winning, they also changed the crowd's reaction, they added Ash carrying Greninja and being sad and added Manon being happy. And changed the synching of their lips to whatever new japanese words they altered for all the altered words to match.

Why you would even give them the benefit of the doubt is bizarre. They just strung people along. They never intended him to win the league. He's absolutely a robot 90% of the time. There is no nuance to his behavior, he just acts in the same tired cheerful way every time. Ash of previous seasons had an aggressiveness and a sort of arrogance tempered and supported by his trials, and during AG/DP had a sort of calmness and thoughtfulness to his general demeanor befitting a person who's been around the block a few times. This Ash has all of those traits downplayed significantly outside of rare as fuck eps like XY&Z 28 or XY 5 and is just an overly excitable kid that gets his dick sucked by everyone around him. Hell, no one even so much as challenges his typical mentality anymore.

I've never shat on Ash during XY, I'm disappointed they stripped away all his personality right after he got some much-needed development during Snowbelle, which is the writers' fault, not his own character's. I was convinced they were focusing much more on Alan during the first half of the finals because they were in turn going to focus more on Ash in the second half. Instead, the past three episodes suddenly had Alan as the protagonist and Ash as someone who was just there as a stepping stone for Alan's character development and his own character was so out of focus we didn't even get to hear his thoughts during the battle until the very end (where they were still shared with Alan's) and his reaction to the loss was like Shota's in XY&Z35 (but you can be sure we're not going to get a scene where he further reflects on it like we did with Shota).
