Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is really relevant, but I wanted to ask a question. . .

I've burnt a metric fuckton on the physical TCG, and I wanted to get a small return by making a buylist on a site like TCGPlayer, but I'm only getting options to sell MTG cards.

Is there anybody here who has experience with buylists and knows how to get the most out of their unwanted cards? Sitting on a few copies of >>28003149 's pic that I want to get rid of. Thanks in advance to anybody willing to share their experiences.

Everyone has their own version of "varied." This year's standard format was, by and large,

And a pool of rogue decks, which included Mega EX and Basic EX Pokemon and quirky strategies like Regice and Entei. But the core of the meta game was, essentially, one of two things

And that's it. It's a bit early to make assumptions about the new standard format, we can assume that item lock is dead. But Garbodor, Giratina EX and hammers will still exist, so disruption will still be a thing. And of course aggro will also be a thing, as always. So the next Standard format will be focused on both Basic EX's and Mega EX's but there will still be a see-saw of aggro and disruption.

Whats the best way to grind ladder as a noob with only theme decks? I have storm rider deck which I hear is good but it seems back and forth. What strategy should I be using with this theme deck?

Any tips for the deck? The Unowns are in there for hand manipulation/more bodies in the graveyard for Vespiqueen. Only doing 100 damage per turn if they don't have a tool is tough, but at least they only get 1 prize.

I'm in the same boat. The only thing I need right now is a pair of Xerneas Breaks to convert my deck over from Aromatisse. Only 10 of the 65 packs are from Steam Siege, but those are still pretty good odds. Plus I just like a lot of the SS cards anyway.

A lot of cards lose a lot of value due to being rotated out of standard. Not used in Standard = No one cares about the card. There MIGHT be a card or two that are currently in rotation that might shoot up in value due to some crazy interaction with a new card when the new sets come out.

Yup. You can pretty much throw in Audino/M Audino onto the list of huge-mark-ups as well considering the last week.

The only real way to profit off these is to either collect a few playsets of every card in the game to sell off later, or to have a little intuition about unique card effects and gamble on some cards you're feeling. For instance, it doesn't take a genius to see that Vs. Seeker and Ninja Boy have very unique and potentially lucrative effects. M Glalie, though? Could be good. Depends on how the meta shifts.

XY Basic Blue is the best theme deck by far.

Unless you need some specific trainers from a deck you are better off buying Roaring Skies packs for a chance to get Shaymin EX.


But, given the fact that you started playing 2 days ago, you probably dont have staple trainers yet so you should focus on getting that first (4 Sycamore, 2 Lysandre, 2 N, 4 VS Seeker, 4 Ultra Balls).

Those go in EVERY deck.

I'm not the original person asking, but that doesn't help.

I want more theme decks because the ones I have are fucking boring and dull, and so I can continue to do Daily Challenges. The last one I got was for a type I didn't have any theme decks for.

I too want to know what ones are good because I started playing last week and have no idea. I'm considering buying Zygarde's because I like Zygarde as a Pokemon and it says it's good for beginners, which I'm assuming is a trap.

For that you have to play Theme tournaments and the deck that will give you best chances at a theme tournament is XY Basic Blue.

The only expensive staple trainer is VS Seeker ant it cant be found in any Theme Deck.

The rest staple trainers (4 Sycamore, 4 Ultra Balls, 2 Lysandre, 1 Hex Maniac, 1 Pokemon Ranger) you can get them ALL for 1 pack or even for free.

The rest of the semi-staple trainers that are somewhat expensive (Mega Turbo, Max Elixir, Float Stone, Fighting Fury Belt, Ninja Boy, Enhanced Hammer)

Cant be found in theme decks, except for FFB but theme decks only have 1 of those, its a waste of coins to use 500 for 1 FFB.
As I said before, VS with themes isnt exiting or fun because the decks suck balls.

You can't trade packs you bought with coins. I'm newish too but my impression is that they occasionally put up a good deal in the shop so you want to hoard coins for the rare times that happens. I have no clue how many though.

Only the packs you win at tournaments or are redeemed from codes are tradable.

If you are just starting my advice is to get PHF packs instead of RS.
VS Seeker is needed and overpriced as fuck.
You are better off buying PHF with coins to get them.

They are uncommon so it shouldnt take you long to get a playset of them.


After that yeah, the best way to use them is to play the shaymin lottery or save the coins to buy a bulk of packs when a new set is released.

Compressor's rotating out and Octillery is virtually unusable.
The only money card in there if you play Standard is Seeker, and its price is going to drop thanks to to this. For $30 you can probably do better.

the last time these battle decks were released VS seeker's price didn't drop. it was around $5 before the battle deck release, continued to rise until it peaked around $10. battle compressor will still be a $3-4 card in expanded. The best deck to counter Basic Blue spam is Storm Rider theme deck.

It has a mix of electric and grass pokemon so you can one shot almost everything in there and it has Dragonite.

If you manage to set up Dragonite you pretty much win the game.

That M-Gallade really does alot for the deck, so many times I've won in one good turn, nabbing 4 to even 6 prize cards in one attack. It's the same system many other card games, such as Magic, use.

You can't realistically patch a physical card game like you can a digital one (Hearthstone). And there are many, many cards that are either poorly thought out, become stronger/weaker than intended as new cards are released, or sort of pigeonhole design choices when it comes to balancing future cards.

Think of a card like pic related, for example. Now imagine needing to balance all Psychic Pokemon around it FOREVER. Pokemon's a 20-year-old card game, you know.

Card games get around having to deal with this problem either with a ban list (YGO) or with a Rotation (Magic, Pokemon). Both systems have their pros and cons.
Rotations don't immediately solve any problems, but if there's something you think isn't balanced or fun, you'll know it'll be gone in 1-2 years. If you buy a full deck, you know for a fact that you'll be able to use it for that full 1-2 year period, no exceptions.
Of course, it also means your deck stops being legal in 1-2 years, which is the main advantage a banlist offers. The problems with a banlist, however, are that they're virtually random and subjective, can ban out your deck mere months or weeks after you buy it, and don't necessarily guarantee a fresh meta.

It's primarily a balance issue, just like with a banlist, but it does mean you need to keep buying cards. On the other hand, even in banlist games like YGO, you see new sets invalidating old ones all the time; you can't really use a 10-year-old deck in a serious YGO tournament and expect to win, can you?

Starting out I had a Luxray Break+Kyurem EX+ Regice deck that SOMEHOW worked out 80% of the time. The second I took out Regice, the deck went to shit.

Without shaymin or octillery you have no draw power, thats why you feel the deck is slow.

3-2 lines should never be played, play either 2-2 or 3-3.


As for trainers.

You have switch and fairy garden, kind of redundant.

Fairy Drop, Energy Retrieval, and Proffesors letter arent good trainers.

AZ is rotating out.

You dont have ranger to prevent locking from giratina, you dont have hex maniac to prevent locking from vileplume, carbink and garbodor.

you have too many energies.

I got them on the cheap-cheap for 35 cents a pop. I figured I could crack em since I spent next to nothing and just buy some SS to trade for the Shaymins later on if I didn't open any. I think I'll couple the other 19 packs with a few AO packs I have to trade for a second hedgehog.
