I have to wonder what the fuck happened. Don't you all get the impression by watching XY&Z and episodes 37/38 themselves that Ash was set to win and they higher-ups told the writers at the last second he had to lose, and they only had the time to change Greninja dropping instead of Charizard? There is no logical sense of progression in that final showdown compared to everything we'd seen before. I'd never felt this way watching something outside of things like the "best" Bleach asspulls.

There's other tweets from other animators saying that Ash should have won. To have workers from your own company say that you've fucked up is apparently a serious thing in Japan. The Chinese are pissed off too. /vp/ is always cynical as is 4Chan in general, but there are plenty of angry Anons. Reddit's rage is much worse, and they have a hate boner for Alan. Though the Nips on Twitter seemed humble but don't let that facade fool you. 2ch was pretty damn mad and hostile, and 2ch is far more influential than 4Chan when it comes to these sort of thing. They must be the angriest of them all especially when that controversial Bleach ending came out on the same week.

The NEET Spics had the most lukewarm reaction and are damage controlling, but the normies among them were mad too. They say that they could find another audience of kids who will eat this shit up, but they say this without keeping Japan's declining birthrate in mind. The kids who watched XYZ are the same ones who grew up with BW and late-DP. There is no other group of Japanese kids to watch this shit.

This is easily the most angriest people have ever been about Ash losing a league. They've essentially toyed with the fandom's expectations, and SIX league losses in a row is too much.

The thing that's pissing people off is how terrible the episode was. It was a good fight at all. Edgezard comes out of the fight without a scratch and greninja literally gets one shotted by a blast burn he handled just fine a few seconds ago.
I just don't understand. No to mention how there's two different versions of the orange shuriken footage and the music editing was done badly this episode.
It genuinely makes me think they actually have a version with love put into where Ash wins and they just stuck in the safe because of the boss' orders.

I got some normie friends of mine back into the anime by showing them XY(&Z) and they're all incredibly pissed off too. What I fail to understand is why they decided to let Ash get so far and hyped his potential victory so much if they were always going to sweep the rug from under everyone's feet, it just seems unnecessarily cruel to Ash himself, the writers, the animators, us old tards who were still watching the anime and especially the target audience of kids. Why the fuck did they bring Goodra back just to job against an already-damaged Bisharp, had Pikachu take out to pseudos with Ash telling him to leave things to him after he finally fell, have Ash never win against Alan (who wasn't even interested in winning the league in the first place) and Charizard somehow no-sell a massive attack and win with a Blast Burn that had already been neutralized by Greninja two minutes earlier? I can't find a reasonable explanation, it's ridiculous even by this anime's past standards.

It's not just Greninja, but Ash's whole team who was built up and hyped. Noivern had defeated a pseudo in his previous match, and he held his own against Zapdos. Talonflame did well against Moltres after having just evolved. Hawlucha defeated a mega during the league and won plenty of gyms for Ash. Goodra had his own arc in XY, is Ash's first fully evolved pseudo, and is the reason why Ash defeated Clemont who is a competent battler.

All of them have seen their fair share of development and feats, yet they got snuffed out by Alan's team which had no development or growth aside from Charizard. Hell, we've only seen him train and care for Charizard.

I didn't say this, but league treatment where they outright skipped 2/3 Ash's battles, and focused heavy on Alan, made Flare episode between rounds, made last league episode being mostly about Alan and Flare plot makes it obvious it's not climax. Despite that I was still fully invested into XY because at the end of the day what kept me watching Pokemon was never the hope of something changing in the end, it was my love for what it already is. I just enjoy seeing Ash do his thing. I love seeing him befriend and battle with new Pokemon, seeing him go to new places, while hearing Rica’s familiar voice, I’m actually looking forward to seeing him spazz out in the Alola region similarly to how he acted in the very first XY episode.

When I saw how much time was left in the episode when the clash happened, I had no doubt that greninja was gonna lose it. The fact that charizard didn't get a good hit in until the end and greninja was winning the rest of the fight also convinced me.
