They paid off their mecha-loans by the end of Johto.

Then Giovanni effectively ditched them until the end of Sinnoh, when he was informed that Jessie and James took down Team Galactic.

After that, he had them return to Rocket HQ, as they underwent extra training and were sent as the first TR elite into Unova. They succeeded in most of the secret missions they were given, went back to freeroaming after the cancelled Plasma episode, then worked under Dr. Zager, then stopped Team Plasma for real and worked for GIovanni during his Meoletta plans.

At the end of the arc, when Pikagod saved the day, they recognized that they were right to hunt him specifically, and felt vindicated in going back to their own "steal Pikachu" hijinks.

As for the twerps, I was really disappointed with Dawn and everything that surrounded her arcs: supporting coordinator characters, Pokemon, her own attitude. The only thing I liked about her was her mom.

May is kinda hard to compare to the others, since her contest, romantic and training arcs were kinda self-contained and required barely any imput from Ash (thus, she wasn't as much of a "co-star" as Dawn was in DP). Generally, I liked her the most among post-Misty girls before getting Serena.

Serena though is probably my favorite main twerp girl since Misty, which is kinda funny since they are nothing alike. Something just feels right about her, something that just was not "there" for me in the portrayals of Dawn and Iris.

Dawn had a lot of attention focuses on her outfits/dresses, the way her hair looked or was styled, and her appeals focused more on prettiness, she definitely was the first overly girly girl on the cast. But as said its balanced because she was also an action heroine.

Looking back May wasn't really all that girly outside of some moments, I virtually never recall May talking about her appearance outside some minor scenes here and there. She posed for Ash in swimsuits but that was more about her flaunting her body.
