Proof that Greninja has Protean: depending on the type of the last attack he used, he has different reaction to attacks. The first Leaf Stom used by Shota (which came after Aerial Ace) pushed Greninja backwards at mid-height and he landed safely without showing pain.
The second Leaf Storm Shota landed after Cut was used in the CQC fight, and Greninja was caught by the drill while showing a much more pained expression and was sent flying like a firework. Even if we take into account added damage, the difference is too big to be just this.

1- Ash's defeat with Shota resulted into somewhat of a downward spiral for him which culminated with the Snowbelle incident.
2- Considering the previous point Ash managed to turn the tide to his favor, to which some extent Serena also had a part, even if little on it, and is perhaps at his best after that.

Flare interrupting the League still ain't confirmed. So far there is no connection between Flare activities and League. If Tripokalon finale led to Flare turning up, Ash and his frog would still be nearby.

I'm currently rewatching the Psychic Gym fight.

Goddamn that battle was amazing. Everything is clocked to perfection and the direction is superb. Especially that moment where Brave Bird and the Frog dodge the attacks while Pikachu is counting the time. You can feel the immense pressure of the two foes with the homing attacks and Future Sight. Truly one of the best moments in the anime.

Anyone excited that Ash will be battling a Tyranitar for literally the first time ever? Tyranitar actually barely has any appearances in the anime.

Ash didn't fight the one in Movie 4, then there was Larvitar's mother at the end of Johto, then the ep Arbok/Weezing were released had the poacher use Tyranitar on TR. After that Tyranitar only appeared in the background of one of the DP summer arcs but nothing else.

If it were a gen 7 Pokemon they'd have been promoting it for a while now.

Maybe I'm wrong, but somehow it seems that the power increase from Mega Evolution seems to be constant, while the one from Synchro seems to be variable. Like, say ME increases Charizard's base power Y times, while going into Ash-Greninja's forme gives the frog 0.5Y, Y, or 1.5Y times its base power.
