On Ash's case, well, it's rather unfair. People shit on him because he loses in the league, or refuses to evolve (which is untrue as you know), or refuses to use his powerful mons to sweep the region, and refuses to quit despite this. Ash literally did nuffin wrong.

Robin gets the same sort of fanart, yeah, even if he has a lot more to work with in terms of context. Red has virtually nothing since instead of being a eugenics project and having a colorful cast to make up for his nothingness, he's got a single mom in a two-house town and is alone 100% of the time. Plus no two or three standout lines for fanon to extrapolate from. The most interesting things I've heard about this saga are something that can simply be summarized in a few sentences. After I left out of boredom and getting tired of just waiting for something to happen, the only other time I was even vaguely interesting in what the anime was doing was during the Korrina arc, and that was purely to see how they were going to handle Megas. When the answer was just as poorly as the game themselves, I threw up my hands and that was that. As for now, my interest has purely been to see how the endgame plays out so we can make way for SM.
