It's a new low for the series as a whole, which is pretty sad considering how good the season itself is.

By comparison BW consistently scored a healthy dose of 1.5-2.0s throughout the entirety of its run, and it was always run in Saturday mornings. XY has been on a steady decline since premiere and doesn't look to be recovering. CN has changed its timeslot twice to earlier and earlier in the morning were kids are less likely to see it, and the latest it ever aired were the first two episodes on a Saturday afternoon.

Why can't the makers of any pokemon series produce episodes as well as "Electivre vs Infernape" consistently? I'd watch the fuck out of the show if the characters used attacks that made sense and used actual strategy instead of relying on the power of love.

I was just re-watching Pokemon Origins. The first time Red fights Giovanni, Nidoqueen vs Zard, was a great scene. Nidoqueen counters flamethrower with a completely unexpected surf. Then they drop the ball on their main battle and it's like they just fucking gave up.

So tell me vp, why does it have to be this way? Also, are there any other good battles in the anime I should be sure to watch?

Shiny Phantump one. The episode itself had no redeeming qualities whatsoever, besides the fact that it featured a shiny Pokémon. It had no funny jokes, the episode was a pure filler thrown in between two plot episodes, right before the Diantha battle episode to boot, and the plot in the episode is literally nothing more than "Team Rocket attempts to steal Pikachu and featured Pokémon of the day", which is rare for episodes this series, since Team Rocket stealing something is almost always a sideplot.
