Depends on the Pokémon. If they face the right combination of Sceptile, Snorlax, Infernape, Glalie, Swellow, Gliscor, Bulbasaur, or Krookodile, they're screwed.

Sceptile goes even with Greninja. Add Infernape and Ash-Greninja is toast. League Noivern might be good, but Glalie would beat it now. Either Gliscor or Swellow wins over Talonflame. Snorlax is another wall like Goodra, so that would be a prolonged stalemate. Bulbasaur is more than a match for Hawlucha.

Ash has a fuckton of good Pokémon at the corral that could easily sweep through a league.

The only reason I believe these leaks is because Sun/Moon is coming out during the 20th anniversary of the games. If GameFreak was ever going to make major or bold changes like remove the Gyms for the first time ever, this would be the time to do it.

I always wanted Ash to capture an Absol ever since the first AG opening Advance Adventure showed an Absol jump toward Ash for no reason at all. Then the one in the Jirachi movie.

Its like one of those cool pokemon you could have seen Ash with but it never happened.

And the anime had such potential to be cool from the get-go. The original plot can be somewhat hinted at in the gen 1 games.
The original story has a child coming of age and going out on his own. His home country just finished having a deadly war (Ever wonder where Red or Ash's father was? He's dead). The war is actually directly mentioned by Lt. Surge in game. So while this child goes around his country, which is rebuilding itself, he finds no law enforcement and organized crime everywhere.

The original storyline was much darker than what the anime ended up as. :/
