Kind of a difficult question. I almost never watch dubs unless they're exceptionally good and arguably better than the originals (baccano, space dandy, etc) and while pokemon obviously isn't nearly as good as those, it's not overwhelmingly shit like the average dub is.

I'm sure nostalgia is playing a large part in me liking the dub too, as well as the fact that it allows me to multi-task, because let's face it this isn't really a show that deserves 100% of your attention for the entire 20m length of an episode

So I watched the Wulfric gym for the first time and all I have to say is: Was Tomioka drunk when writing this battle or something?

Ash: Greninja, use Aerial Ace!
Wulfric: ...casually let's his Abomasnow get beat up and tossed into the air without commanding a counter-move

Immediately after the above:
Ash: Greninja, use Water Shuriken!
Wulfric: ...doesn't do anything again, allows Abomasnow to take all the damage
Wulfric: Use Energy Ball
Ash: Immediately commands Cut to stop the Energy ball from being released

This happened multiple times throughout the battle, to both Avalugg and Abomasnow, and in the end it became incredibly distracting and really made the battle shit. Tomioka usually writes good battles but the script for this one was horrible since Wulfric rarely was allowed to counter attack.
