After getting my shiny Giratina at the end of /shw/ last weekend, I managed to get a shiny Palkia in 441 SRs, Kyurem in 459 SRs, and I just got Cobalion a few minutes ago in 615 SRs. Going for a shiny Heatran right now.

My luckiest catch was probably a shiny Geodude in X since I didn't know about Telepathy + Skill Swap yet.

Shiny Zorua is such an amazing shiny, and I recommend a Net Ball if you're into balltism.

Another lucky catch was an Audino I False Swipe'd. It woke up and used Secret Power and I caught it. Was a pretty big shock once I looked at its moves and saw Take Down.

My luckiest shiny was from Alpha Sapphire:

I entered Mount Pyre to stop Team Aqua and immediately bumped into a shiny Duskull. It was the first Duskull that I had seen in-game so it's the default sprite on my dex.

I was looking for Tentacool earlier but I might go for a Wurmple since I've always liked Wurmple.

Luckiest shiny would be shiny Vulpix in gen 3 when shinies were still at their rarest (and Vulpix was my favourite 'mon at the time).

Forgot to mention that I caught a shiny Cofagrigus in Omega Ruby, but because it's in Japanese, I couldn't really decipher the moves well. I did end up catching it in a few Luxury Balls. It had Memento.

I started Shiny hunting again yesterday. I'm doing Masuda Method in ORAS to get a Vanillite and Tyrunt. I only want them to be part of a collection, so I didn't IV breed the parents.

Also, luckiest catch? Shiny Snubbull, my first Shiny. Got it while looking for a female Eevee. It took me lesa time to find a Shiny than a female Eevee.

I've been soft resetting for shiny Rayquaza in SoulSilver for aboot eight months now. Only took a couple days to get my shiny starter so this stretch is getting somewhat discouraging but it's so easy to just do infinitely while doing other things it's really no big deal.

I recommend playing an RPG or two while doing it. Really anything that doesn't require full on attention all the time. Got my Registeel while waiting around for the AI in Mario Party.

Found a shiny mareep in Pokemon Y last year. Ended up giving her to my gf since she loves mareep and its evos.

Then, restarting heartgold I found a shiny geodude. Sadly I forgot to erase my old save and discovered you can't overwrite your save anymore. A sad week I must say.

Found a pidgey, a kakuna and a spearrow in Silver when I was a kid. Never knew they were shiny because I had a monochrome gameboy, just thought they were special because of the sparkles.

I usually just do it while at work, sitting around watching youtube videos, playing other games, etc. It only requires a button press every few seconds and a glance at the screen when it goes white then hitting Select and Start since the shoulders are taped down. I'm glad it's so easy to just run repeatedly for hours and hours on end, extremely low input and attention required.

Probs never gonna do it again though this is really the only shiny legendary I've much interest in here.

Randomly found a female shiny eevee in 3 chains while searching for a wish egg move. Surprisingly decent IVs too. 31/13/31/31/25/22 and jolly

The problem? Leafeon(and maybe Flareon and umbreon) is the only one that could work with this and shiny leafeon/glaceon are so bland...hope gen 7 shows a new physical eevee.

Okay... Legitimate question. I've tried to do several methods for shiny hunting, but I'm still some ways off from getting the shiny charm (Around ~400 Seen in my National Pokedex)... What were some strategies you guys used to get to the 700+ mark, and since you've gotten the shiny charm, how many more shinies have you caught/hatched?

Side topic answer: I was breeding a Donphan in ORAS for pokedex completion purposes, and I got a phanpy. I was moments away from trading the Phanpy on the GTS before I realized it was a shiny (!!!). I now treasure the elephant more than my life.

First off, for unevolved mons in your dex that you need, you can usually get away with putting up a 5iv level 1 mon on GTS. Back when I started the shiny charm wasn't even possible to get in gen 6 yet.

Second, just run around the region and catch one of everything you need. For example, for Scatterbug's line, catch three of them, and evolve one to Spewpa and another to Vivillon. This won't take long at all AND it's a step towards a living dex. If you have a living dex, when a new gen comes out, all you worry about are the new pokemon. There are people that would be more than willing to hand you a breeject just for your dex.

As for the shiny charm, I've gotten an Eevee and Trapinch in W2. In Y i've gotten a Chespin/2 Woopers/2 Mareeps/Zigzagoon off the top of my head, not counting the friend safari. In AS since the charm boosts dexnav rates I've gotten 2 Eevees/Zigzagoon/Sewaddle/Porygon/Gulpin/Spinda/Latios/Regirock/Registeel/Zekrom, not counting chain fishing

Honest trading, breeding, leveling up, and some help from kind people. It just takes a few days if you focus on it. Get some triple Blissey secret bases to help with level up evolution if you don't have any yet.

I don't remember exactly when I got the shiny charm, but it's been at least 130 hatched shinies and about eight wild ones.

Don't circle the island, it's actually pointless. Just go back and forth in front of the daycare.

The Pokemon center right there has the IV checker. Drop your mons in the daycare, then just go back and forth collecting eggs, hatching, checking, and depositing. It's the most efficient way to breed, provided you've the availability to press back and forth rather than jam the pad in one direction.

I know some people prefer to get huge batches then breed, but I have so little time to breed these days I prefer to make it as efficient as possible.

The Rotom is probably singular and unchanging. Depends on how it relates to the normal system (whether you can even ever use it as a normal mon)

On that note, that's sort of how soaring works in ORAS, right? It's always just the Lati@s you caught in game. I don't know what happens if you trade it away and get a different Lati@s or even the opposite version one. One assumes shininess never matters too. Can the Lati@s even be shiney in ORAS? The one you meet during the single player?

Again, I don't find it that helpful. The parents are usually just shitting out eggs with the Oval Charm. I tend to bounce between one to three hatches before my party is filled up again, and that's after only a few back-and-forthes. Maybe with the highest hatch rates and lowest compatibility a whole cycle would be worth it. Still, I get eggs and hatch them quickly enough on average that going all the way around the island is more of a hassle than a help.

Worse in XY where the circle is out of the way of the daycare and the IV checker. If you prefer mass breeding and mass hatching, then it's honestly probably better in XY, because the circle won't get fucked up from stopping to hatch, if I recall, and you're not breeding and hatching at the same time anyway, so it doesn't matter if you have to fly between the areas.

Yeah, according to places around the internet, your Story Lati@s isn't shiny locked (though it's an absolute pain to hunt, because of the time and stuff to do between saving and being able to check). It doesn't affect the color while Soaring, though.

So even if you can switch out the Rotom, or the original can somehow be shiny, it probably won't affect the Rotom Pokedex at all.

I like to work on evolution lines from top to bottom (final evolution to first, i'm doing a living dex) because the middle evolution's aren't usually too hard to evolve. In cases where they are, friend safari's can be really helpful since a lot have middle evolutions. There are plenty of forums online you can go on for this.

Game sync/balloon popping are also good for those pesky trade evolution items if you don't feel like doing the battle maison. There are a few in depth videos online if you're new to it.

There are also a few google spreadsheets online that list each pokemon in the order they'd show up in if you had a living dex in your PC. This helps me keep track of everything much easier and I've been working one generation at a time to keep things fresh.

I'd personally start by catching every available pokemon in gen 6. Catch doubles of every version exclusive to trade.

Balltism is a terrible disease.
When your favourite pokemon is genderless you have to choose between catching it in the wild in your preferred ball but getting it with shit IVs, if you breed it you can control the IVs but you can't pass down balls.
The mechanic of having to make your pokemon hold items to pass down certain things is inherently broken, by the way, but that's a rant for another thread.

Just finished by 39th box of MM Charmander. That's 1170 Charmander in the bin. Well, only the shit ones. I like to send the over abundance of good ones off into the ether through Wonder Trade. On the other hand, my boxes across two games are starting to fill up, and I have a bunch more in the Pokebank, so I may eventually just start having to chuck all of them. The problem with MM is that you tend to reach the point where you're generating tons of viable mons before a shiny ever appears, leaving you with a lot of dudes that it feels like a shame to dump just because you don't need them. I've suffered the opposite problem at least twice, though: getting a Shiny before the perfect parents had been bred. Guess I'm paying for my "luck" from back then.

Anyway, one more box for a nice even 40 boxes and 1200 eggs. Going for a Modest Mega Charizard-Y build.

I've never really had a lucky catch. Most of my catches have been post-Charm, and most of those in things like hordes (for EV training) and the Friend Safari while looking for something else. Nothing particularly noteworthy had to be done to get them either. I haven't purposely farmed for wild shinies since the radars in Gen IV. I'll probably give something like that a go to take a break from breeding after I get this goddamn Charmander. I swear, it's going to have a 0 IV for Special Attack when it hatches.

Just need to repeat the oath: the next box for sure.

I have the same overabundance problem. I could just Wondertrade the extras, but it would probably take days considering each box takes about an hour to send off. I've released a lot as well, but there's still too many because I want to keep at least three males and females of each plus mons that have multiple good abilities, hexaperfects, rare females, and more.

I've actually just recently built up a few Perfect 0 Atk IV Males as well. Depending on how the shiny works out, if I feel like trying again, I might switch them in for a bit until I get 0 Atk IV Perfect Female. To squeeze out that little bit more possible min maxing.

Breeding Mixed Attackers actually made it easier when keeping the good ones, because I could just keep only the Hexflawless. But with single attackers, so as long as the other 5 are perfect, the other attack IV just doesn't matter. At least there's a vaguely justifiable reason to have 0 IVs in Atk as a Special Attacker.

Chain fishing is the easiest method of getting a shiny. Secondary option would be Friend Safari, horde-hunting, or DexNav. I guess Pokeradar may fit into that classification also or a bit harder in terms of difficulty. Masuda Method is right below that. The hardest would probably be soft-resetting for a starter/legendary and doing random encounters.

Pretty much just fish anywhere you'd like.

Smeargle and Parasect are fine for most things. But by the time the Legends start hitting the 70's, they're really going to fucking up any Parasect and Smeargle, even if they're at Level 100 with perfect IVs.

Even with a lesser chance to sleep, it's better to use more sturdy Pokemon. Or even just bring two Capture mons, one to false swipe and tank hits and then switch in the sleeper once that's all there is to do.

Most of the reason people criticize new threads before hitting pages 9-10 is primarily because, on a slowish board like /vp/ it tends to lead to both having multiple threads up for hours and draws in people who only slightly tolerate threads like these and feel the need to bitch about it crowding up the board. This thread will be up for hours yet, even during hype season.
