When two characters meet and one needs to be filled in on all the things the readers have seen to date, the narrator will simply state that the character in the know told the other about everything that had happened. Sometimes authors will try to mitigate it by referring to the things discussed: "told them about the time X, the time Y, and even time Z." That fails to address the real issue - that it's a missed chance to show a character reflecting on what's happened so far and show the other's character through their reactions. What's left is an artificial feeling exchange that didn't really help to further develop the characters.

Eyes are great for showing general emotion, but where did anyone get this idea that you can tack some random descriptors onto them and convey any emotion of any intensity? Some of the grandiose descriptions you see are just ridiculous.

I can't quite put my finger on why, but reading fanfiction has ruined this word for me. Every time I see it, I die a little inside. Maybe it's because people fail to show humor with anything but chuckles, because it's used so often for things that aren't funny, or because it's so often used in that unintentionally condescending way by every Mary Sue ever created.

Hi! Catalogue (co-)manager here. It's mostly my fault the catalog's fucked up; I was trying to mess around with the link from the google form to the spreadsheet to bypass the waiting list, and I almost immediately fucked everything up so that the submission form no longer outputs data to the catalog's waiting list. Originally, I had someone else help me with the form, and it was working well, but ever since I broke it I haven't been able to get back in touch with said helper to fix it.

Admittedly, I haven't been trying very hard to fix it, and I haven't really got a good excuse for that. I kinda forgot about it for a decent while. If anyone knows their way around gdocs/gforms and wants to give me a hand, feel free to drop by the IRC and we'll work something out.

"Tend" is a verb that is the act of caring for something, while "attend(ing)" is being in the state of actively tending. Thus, to "attend to X" is to be actively tending to X. If I attend the meeting, I am seated at the table; if I attend to the meeting, I ensure that there are coffee and doughnuts. These are different things.

You may be tired of "bored of" but it's more correct than "with" because "of" indicates that what follows is the object; although "with" is understood, it better suits indicating an addition to the subject: I can be bored with you if we are both bored concomitantly, but if I am bored of you, the cause of my boredom alone is clear.

I've been meaning to ask: why did you split your story into so many different fics? Do they all revolve around the same cast or does it differ every volume?

Any stories with interesting (original) villain teams, or any 10/10 villains in their own rights? Favourite original antagonists?

The main reason I did that was to avoid some chronological discrepancies throughout the fiction. Writing side chapters gave me the freedom to put the cast in a different light which might not make as much sense if thrown in to the main three arcs. The side chapters are all part of the same series published under that pen name, and there's no crossovers with my other fictions, so they exist in a self-contained universe. My original vision for those side chapters was to have them be anecdotes. Specifically, not in conflict with the main story, but expand upon a few themes that would be additional embellishments developing the characters. This would, in my belief, solve the problem of not always finding a proper place in the main story, but I may have misjudged this if you are finding them to be a confusing part of my series.

If you need to create a backstory for your fics, how much detail do you guys go into for it?

Depending on where/when you add backstory will depend on the pacing of the fic probably. Life changing events for individual characters would probably get great detail, while details about wars often get the short end of the stick (especially at the start of a fic), only being revealed in more detail over time

Primarily, because if they don't need to be specific, then going on a detour to detail them would be TELLING, and secondarily, because that lets me color in the sketch however I please at a later date.

I kinda like Cloudy Gemstones. There are some spelling errors and other things like characters occasionally saying "Arceus damn it" that I find pretty dumb but otherwise it's alright.

So I am writing a fanfic about my original characters. Here is the basic concept, tell me what you think and maybe I will post some more (")^o^(")

Princess Felicity is the princes of her Kunoichi ninja tribe. She has pink and silver ombre hair, one green eye and one blue eye, likes to wear kimonos and eat bentos and ramen. Her Kunoichi tibe is trying to hide her because she can read the thoughts of pokemon and her power could be used to control every pokemon on earth. She has a special pink Gardevoir and she can also transform into a Gardevoir and they are known as the Gardevoir sisters. Princess Felicity had an evil entity put into her as a baby which is actually the source of her power. So sometimes when she transforms into a Gardevoir and mega evolves she looks like a shiny Gardevoir with a black kimono and that is her evil half showing. She is being hunted by team shadow that wants to use her powers of pokemon telepathy and control to control all pokemon on earth.

She ends up meeting Dan and Braixen trainer. Dan has brown hair, brown eyes, likes anime and manga and speaking Japanese. Dan wants to help princess Felicity get away from team shadow but he doesn't know about her powers or dark side or ability to transform into a gardevoir. Dan's braixen is in love with Dan and princess Felicity knows this because she can read pokemon thoughts but she doesn't want to tell Dan because she also thinks she likes him and this is a major source of plot in the stores.

So my fanfic is full of action and drama but also comedy like when someone says something funny and everyone yells baka. I am currently writing how Dan and Felicity met and up until their first fight with team Shadow. Felicity isn't sure how she feels about Dan until after he saves her from team Shadow but don't worry their relationship will be shown more in later posts. Also there might be some M/F and M/FPoke and M/F/FPoke NSFW stuff if you guys want.

It's...meh. There's quite a bit of media/fics out there already that allows for transformation to dark/evil sides, and most that do tend to fail to capture the interest of the audience long enough to keep them reading (saturation). I'm not sure if a love triangle action/drama is enough to keep things interesting throughout the story.
At the very least you do have a clear idea of what you want to do. The big issue is whether it can be executed properly without relying on excess tell instead of show.

I don't think it makes sense at all. God is a word. He has an actual name that many people use, but as a sign of respect the majority refer to him simply with the noun, indicating that he is of the highest order. The same can easily be applied to Arceus.

I might not like bullyfics much, but if you're taking requests, there's a character that's in dire need of a fic in general, even if she's on the receiving end.

Either during or after the main game events, Brendan has been dating Courtney (ORAS), but she has retained that annoying speech pattern/behavior of hers, so he takes matter into his own hands to get her to talk/react properly. Use a mixture of both lewd and mean tactics, but whether he succeeds or just makes her cry is up to you. Either way, he should have fun teasing her.

The protagonist's local mart is having supply issues. It turns out that someone's taken the shipment of Potions/Revives, but (weirdly) left everything else. As the story unravels, a mystic cult is behind this and plans to create a new type of Revive that can awaken the dead.

On a completely unrelated note to anyone that wants to answer my degenerate question: I have made Kanto exceedingly conservative concerning Pokefucking because it just seemed to fit and put Sinnoh on the cusp of legalizing marriage between man and mon because of the region's history.

Is this a stretch? Well, a bigger stretch than it already is? For the record I made Hoenn lean more towards Sinnoh (given a large number of Sinnoh tourists in the region) and made Johto the abused younger brother of Kanto that listens to him but also doesn't really want to because he just wants to be left alone.

It's bad enough that Kanto is going to bar tourists from Sinnoh.

Unova and Kalos don't really give a shit. Kalos has the underground network of brothels I detailed in Maison though.

If Sinnoh's justification is spirituality-based, Kanto being the least poképhilia-tolerant region could make sense. Princes Felicity and Gardevoir are alone in a forest eating bento boxes.

"Itadakimasu!" Felicity exclaimed, "Watashi daisukis bento boxes (authors note: this is japanese for I love bento boxes) . "Thank you for making this for me Gardevoir." Reading Gardevoirs mind Princes Felicity knew Gardevoir was happy that Princes felicity enjoyed the bento box.

*snap* "Was that chopsticks?" Felicity thought but no, it wasn't. She realized she was surrounded by team shadow members.
"Your coming with us." exclaimed a team shadow grunt as he threw a pokeball with a woobat inside. "Oh no, it is team shadow." Felicity exclaimed. Gardevoir jumped up to protect Felicity. "Why are you after me!" exclaimed Felicity. "We are going to use your power to communicate with pokemon and amplify it off of the moon to cast an Infinite Tsukuyomi which will control all the pokemon and people of the world." exclaimed the team shadow grunt.

"Well I may be a princes but I am also a kunochi and I am not afraid to fight you." Exclaimed Felicity with her hand over her heart. And after exclaiming that she began transforming into a pink gardevoir. "Now you will see the power of the legendary Gardevoir sisters." exclaimed Felicity.

The other team shadow members threw their pokeballs "Go Woobat/Swoobat!" they exclaimed.

Using her telepathy Princes Felicity told Gardevoir to use moonblast which they did in perfect unison as sparkles glittered around them. Some of the woobats and swoobats were hit but they came back to the fight. "Haha." exclaimed the team shadow grunt "we knew you would use your power to turn into a gardevoir and that is why have a plan."

"Woobat/Swoobat use psychoshift!" The team shadow members exclaimed! The power of all the woobat and swoobat combined psychoshift unleashed princes Felicity's dark side and she turned black from her usual pink.

It's not hate, but suspicion. Judging what you have posted here, either you are completely inexperienced as a writer and likely under-age, or you are trolling us by pretending to be.

I wish you a fun time writing your story. You clearly have a vibrant vision in your imagination. But I caution you that you are not likely to find much praise for technical merit if that is what you seek. Were I your editor, I would remark that of about two dozen sentences here, these are the only two that do not want for correction:

Although your writing is mostly intelligible, poorly-crafted writing repels readers, and expertly-crafted writing means every tittle correctly selected and properly placed in addition to grammatical precision and discerning choices of word and phrase.

My suggestion is that you focus on writing the whole story. Completing a story, alone, will put your progress beyond that of many aspiring authors.

Don't stop to ask the Internet for feedback, at least until you have a few thousand words to present; just keep writing. Once you finish it, you'll have enough experience to decide if you want to do the hard work of learning to write expertly. If not, that's okay; you don't need to write properly to enjoy the hobby. But if you want to give stories to the people of the world, you must be prepared to receive a lot of criticism and to respond to it by becoming better at writing, not by accusing them of being "haters" without first considering their perspective, because when you push your audience away with derision, they will leave you alone, and if your goal is to be alone with your story, then there is no use in posting it online. Going public with your writing is a step into the wilderness; take that step, but take it knowingly.

Why does everyone write Silver as either a villain or a bitch? He's a dick and an ambitious trainer who learns to not be a dick to his pokemon by the end of the game. I always appreciated that he was one of the only characters in any of the games to show any real growth, so it's weird to see how many stories including him completely ignore the direction of that growth.

I don't really do pokemon bullying people, I don't like that stuff. The closest thing I'll do to that is one trainer bullying another using their pokemon as tools for it (like telling your corphish to use crabhammer on your victim's balls or something). Generally I like to write about humans being the dominant one in the relationship.

As far as pokemon talking, I guess it depends. Usually I say they make animal-like noises, like grunting, squealing, squeaking, etc. I suppose something with very strong telepathy like Alakazam could telepathically talk, though. I don't really follow the anime (just na episode here and there), but do Zoroark talk in the anime? I know that one Meowth can talk, but I think he's a special one-in-a-million case or something.

Either way, pokemon bullying people isn't really my thing. Now, if it was reversed, where the meek Zoroark admitted to having a human fetish to its large-breasted/macho-manly trainer, that's something I could work with.

I just played through both BW and BW2 recently and I don't remember them at all. I remember an NPC in B2 -mentioning- the talking Zoroark, but I don't recall ever seeing it. What gives?

A socialized zoroark who learned to speak the hard way is currently on the possible characters list of my next work-in-progress.

In BW, you meet him when you approach the trailer in the woods. In BW2, the same place but the field is different. In both games, he's one of the few NPCs that walk away after talking, and in BW2 he drops the illusion before stepping off screen.

I think I get something of a sadistic enjoyment out of most of these stories, I suppose I like the ones where the Pokemon acts all haughty and dignified and the trainer slowly strips that all away from them, or when they're in denial about their trainers being cruel and try to rationalize what happens to them. One thing I think would be amusing is a trainer taking care of a whole team of cute/elegant pokemon (Milotic/Delcatty/Wigglytuff etc) and for seemingly no apparent reason starts treating one of them like crap while continuing to pamper the others. Maybe the trainer manages to convince their other Pokemon that this one Pokemon deserves it even though they have no idea why, and this abuse gradually escalates to the point it starts having an emotional meltdown.

I dunno, it might work as a starting point.

You should always have at least one second opinion on your proofreading. Two heads are better than one, as they say. Someone else can catch something really obvious that you somehow wind up consistently missing, or a weird phrasing that's technically correct but only really makes -sense- to you. I personally am lucky enough to have a few other friends who write fanfics, so I can pawn off my proofreading onto them without embarrassment.

Hey, that's a fun topic. What do you type on, /vpwt/? A good mechanical keyboard is well worth the price; I got myself a KUL ES-87 a while back; it may not look like much, but it's the sturdiest board I've ever seen. Hella heavy, not prone to sliding around much, beautiful cherry Green switches, and once my keycaps start to wear out I'll replace them with thicker PBT plastic ones.

If you're typing on some shitty $20 Dell rubber-membrane office keyboard, you really need to learn to love yourself. Once you go mechanical, you'll never go back.
