Things like Ash potentially knowing what love is, it potentially being possible for people Clemont's age (and, by extension, Ash and Serena's age) to marry, or what this episode might mean for the ending of Clemont's arc.

Hell, come to think of it, if Clemont doesn't end up with a love interest by the end of the series, it might actually fare badly for the "amour is being influenced by socioeconomic conditions in Japan" argument, since Clemont is a huge fucking nerd on the show, and a main character.

Honestly my earliest memories of Drew was just thinking it was interesting May got her own rival since none of the companions had their own rivals by then. I did think he was kind of a ripoff of Gary at first, but as Hoenn progressed he became his own character.

A lot of the "taboo's" of the early seasons have been done away with. Ash is now allowed to own powerful pokemon, his team mostly evolves (in Kalos it is fully evolved), and he gets powerful dragons and other pokemon.

Its also better when Ash only gets one or two starters, whenever he gets all 3 of them they barely evolve.
