I say its fairly appreciated. I've drawn here for a few years as well before taking a break and although no one really knows me, I almost always got a thank you in return for drawing. I only really stopped for now to work on other things and practice other skills. Also because I'm lazy.

That said, it isn't a necessity and a drawfag should always draw for their own benefit (whatever that may be) and never feel like the requester should be obligated to thank them. This place is about as casual for the requesters as it is for most of the people who draw for them. I understand that it is nice to receive gratitude from a requester but being in the place we are you should always expect attitude from someone as well.

To be honest, I've gotten where I am through self critique and hating almost everything about my work and comparing it to others. I'm still highly dissatisfied with a lot of my work, but I also always try to make everyone better than the last. On some level, I think most artists know they can do better, its knowing how to actually achieve that better or what that better is that is the difficult part. Another persons perspective can definitely be helpful but in the end, only the artist will know where they will want to end up. If they wish to stagnate or even just think they can do it themselves, then ranting to them about critique won't do you much good. They'll have to figure out on their own if a person's advice is what will help them reach their goals.
