With the showing of the trainer's skin colors, I think the day/night cycle is now confirmed to not be in the game. I mean if you picked either of the darkest skin colors and it became night you literally could not fucking see your player.

No reason it woudl be ony lfor rival battles. The only had the 3d model before because the ywere the only ones that had it ofr cut scenes whereas random npc didn't have that full size model. Now ever npc has the full size mdoel so there'd be no reason not to have them it show in the battle.
